1. Aside for whether you like the concept or not, I think tribute bands are the same as any other bands - there are good ones and there are poor ones. Particularly memorable - I saw the Illegal Eagles many times with their original singer Ray Brown who was simply phenomenal. (anyone know what he is doing now?) I've seen the Counterfeit Stones who put on a really great show. I've seen ZZ Topps and was bitterly disappointed - they seemed to concentrate so much on looking the part that the music suffered, not very tight for a 3 piece and the sound (where I saw them) was terrible.
2. I think my first stop would be the Behringer BDI21. Just a tiny little movement from 12 oclock gives a nice boost and can shape the sound really well. For home play I think it would be ideal. The J retro is a great bit of kit but, at over £200 more, possibly overkill for the OP's intended use.
3. I use a GenzBenz Streamliner 600 and Barefaced Midget for rehearsals and smaller gigs. Very portable, never been short of volume or rounded tone. Slightly more bite than the Compact. I use both cabs for bigger gigs or if I just feel like using both (paired the tone is sublime) but the Midget on its own is really good. From a cold start I would now buy the Super Compact and just have the one cab but, having made the investment, I'll stick with what I have.
4. I used to have a B2.1U, changed to single effects, then bought an MS60B, now don't use effects much so used it mainly for the tuner. Which i don't find to be very good at all, so now I use the Korg Pitchback that I had when I used single effects. But that is another story. I found the MS60B easier to program than the B2.1U, and the quality of the effects I found to be much better. I quite liked the chorus/flange/phase bank, for example, and the amp and eq models also. Once you have combined and fiddled with the various effects to get a sound you want you can save it to a patch then flag them up for use with the footswitch. So then you only have to click on the footswitch to sequentially click through the various saved patches you have chosen. That worked ok in a live situation, but my use of effects was generally very limited - a different one for a few tracks then basic sound for most. I didn't ever switch between effects during a song but I think that would be possible by just saving the patches in the right order. You'd need to be very organised, though!
5. Could you shim the neck at the furthest edge of the pocket so that it sloped backwards a bit more?
6. It is my pleasure to be the first to start a feedback thread for Aurelio. He bought my Squier deluxe jazz in the simplest of transactions, delivered it to him just this afternoon and received a big wad of cash in return Enjoy the bass, Aurelio!
7.
I have never felt the urge to film myself playing and post it, but the people who do have saved me months of time in working bass lines out. For that I thank you one and all.
This. Usually even if they are wrong or badly played you can get a handle on something just by watching the playing position. Increasingly my ears are not so good so any help I can get is great.
8.
The listing was ended because the item is no longer available. Possibly sold elsewhere, or someone made the seller an off-ebay offer.
Sorry, not clear was it - I meant Lemmywinks' mate's Raven.
9. 'Too many' is a different number for every individual. If you have lots and you like them, have the space to store them and don't need to money to sell the ones you don't play much then it is purely a matter between you, your partner and your bank balance. I've got loads - far more than I could ever 'need' - but I enjoy playing all the different ones, all the different nuances, playing positions and tones. I'd rather spend an evening tinkering with a new bass, or an old favourite, than go down the pub or watch mindless sh*te on the TV. I might decide at next rehearsal to give X a blast for a change. Or at the next gig, rather than my 'go to'. Eventually I fall out of love with one and I'll move it on but right up until then I'll keep it and play it when the whim takes me. Or I might have GAS for something, buy it, find I don't like it after all and move it on more quickly. I don't see why anyone else needs to get involved .
10.
I know there are a lot of people who pronounce it "Rickenbarker". Mainly Americans I have to say. But Status is definitely "Stay-tus".
I pronounce Rickenbacker as 'Overbearing Copyright Bullies' - which I believe is the correct translation from the root word. Status is a latin word and in latin based languages the 'a' is generally short as in 'hat' and a 'u' is short as in 'push'. Which plainly sounds f*&^ing ridiculous, so I always pronounce it Stay-tus with a glotteral stop on the second T because I live in south Essex.
11. Nearly 11lbs, sadly. I had the matching 'Falcon', too. A brace of black beauties.
12. Makes my back twinge just looking at it! I love these, still miss my old one but they are just too heavy. And that is a cracking price.
13. I'd always default to Westone - not only do they make superlative quality, value-for-money basses but also 6 string. Some models are fitted with MMK45 pickups which have a bit of a cult following. Huge monster humbucking tone on those. Thunder, Spectrum, Pantera or - king of the heap, Prestige (although you'd struggle to find one in the price bracket) Some have active circuitry, some have coil tap - depends upon the model. I have a Thunder 1T, which is passive, has 2 x humbuckers (though not the MMK45), coil tap and tremelo which I reckon sounds as good as my mates Gibson Studio. Cost me £33!! .
14. I always use the Interparcel/[s]UPS[/s] edit DHL - what is the matter with my brains -option and have never had any issues. And my feedback is a hot topic - I am now on quite chatty terms with the local driver! I would say without exception with every other courier I have ever used or tried to use there has always been a problem or potential problem - late to pick up, no shows, late delivery, damaged, small print exclusions from insurance etc. Particularly fed up with Royal Mail at the moment. I tried to send a parcel to France yesterday with a plant inside. Was asked what was inside, I told them. Sorry, can't send plants to France. I know for a fact that, as we are both EU members, there is free trade and passage of plant material (with a very few exceptions). Every year I drive from Holland to France with a car full of plants: lorries come back and forth through France all day, every day, through France laden with all things horticultural and botanical. So there is some tiny bureaucratic nonsense unique to Royal Mail that prohibits this. I ended up going to the next post office and told them, when asked, it was a toy.
15. I'd also say not all black nylons are the same. I once had Rotosound Trubass, which were like having giant earthworms on your bass, and currently have Status black nylons, which I really like. Much smaller gauge, very acoustic sounding, feel nice - cheap, too.
16. A 'I am a bit surprised this is still here' type bump. Head-turner, plays well, sounds great, lightweight. Cheap as chips!!
17.
Saw him playimng it last night. Chris is a big lad these days, it looked the most horribly uncomfortable object to play. Bet he's glad it's just for one song.
Yes, reaching down to the lowest neck (fretless, I think?) he had to reach all the way around the front of that cod-piece, or whatever it is he has tucked down the front of his trousers.
