Depends what sound you want. I didn't like them as I prefer the 'old school' vintage sound of a Precsion. SPB-4 I found were like a quarterpounder on steroids - if that is what you are chasing you'll love them!

Fella, 'bassists' come in all shapes and sizes, from all walks of life and with a whole lot of varying expectations and requirements. If *you* find the Zoom stuff to be toys, fine, but don't look down your nose at those who do use them, please. Or, at the very least, try to be nice - to say some 'don't know any better' is just plain rude.

With a note that I subsequently got Howard The Bass Doc to do a mod on it, so it now sports a MIJ Fender Split P pup, KiOgon loom and new scratch plate to accommodate it all and doesn't need beefing up any more.

There is a Sterling by Musicman SB-14 in the classifieds at the moment - that ticks the boxes.

Gosh - Into The Arena. Bass playing equivalent of a tongue twister. My old band tried that for a while - I could play it right at 95% speed or get in a muddle at 100%! Did it better than the rhythm guitarist, though.

I had all sorts of weird typing problems - underscored or italic, no return, had to use the editing thingy in the corner to format the text. I also had problems navigating the site - had to go via links rather than just back, as it would only go one or two clicks back before freezing. Yesterday I changed browser from IE to Chrome and all the problems have finished.

This Phantom has just been reduced - one day only! - BIN £275 or best offer. I will pass, I think.

I bought some double ball end flats from Status for my Hohner B2A and, with the silks at the bridge end, the flat winding actually finishes before you get to the bridge. I am assuming this isn't an issue but it does look a bit odd.

I'm too heavy handed. I recently bought a bass (Squier Deluxe Jazz) that had been set up like that with a really straight neck and the lowest action I have ever seen. As soon as I started thumping away on it I buzzed all over the place and had to bow the neck a bit more and raise the action.

If you are ok with some old fashioned RnB, what about 'Hideaway', a la John Mayall/Eric Clapton? Or 'Steppin' out'? Bit heavier - 'Rat Salad', Black Sabbath

[/quote] I have a trolley, which I found very useful for shifting my heavy rig when I had it. For moving lighter cabs about when you have a bad back it is actually more harmful than simply lifting and carrying one, as you end up being bent over - one of the worst things you can do. And relying on help from other people isn't an option because there are always times when there are no other people. I know you mean well but it is probably best to avoid giving advice on issues you have evidently not experienced yourself as you clearly don't understand or appreciate what the issues involved and have just ended up sounding patronising. Rest assured that lightweight gear makes *all* the difference. Easily lifted cabs, lightweight basses, even access to my slip-on shoes so I don't have to tie laces!

For 25 years I used to shift heavy weights down the gym, looked after myself physically. 100kgs of Trace Elliot rig in and out of the car, no problem. Then - bang - lower back problem resulting in a weak sacro-iliac joint. I can assure you it isn't all in the lift, as I am equally sure that a load of other people on here who have issues with their back will tell you. Sorry if it gets on your nerves. I'm not overly impressed myself with having to live the rest of my life wondering when I am next going to have to ask help putting on my socks. For me, and people like me, weight is of paramount importance when choosing gear. And Barefaced cabs are a Godsend.

Indeed Avocado is food of the gods. You can't eat a Midget!! I might visit Morrisons and see if they have any, then start a trade post.

Actually, in terms of finish and weight, a large avocado (with the stone removed) would look similar to a Midget.

Nice. Better lines than the Hohner or Steinberger IMO. Still out of my price range, unfortunately.
