1.
Hmmm so it would be unlikely that a replacement bridge would be available with only three screws... I'm rather not be drilling any more in the bass
Hipshot A has just 3 screws. It would solve your problems. Not cheap, though.
2. I had this with a Jazz bass - I changed the neck for a Mighty Mite and it all ended up being very slightly out of alignment when I put it back together. I fitted a Hipshot A style bridge, which is an exact retrofit for the 5 hole Fender, which has sideways adjustment for the saddles. All perfectly aligned now. A better bridge, too - great piece of engineering! The slight angle of the string at the saddle hasn't proved to be an issue.
3. Westone Thunder Jet just listed http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321262066650?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 low starting bid of £35 and only £10 postage. I reckon this will go for a song. These are really nicely made, all black hardware, great necks (22 fret), also much lighter in weight than the 1 series. Sound is a little weak out of the box but a really good starting point for pimping. I stuck a SD 1/4lb'er and a P retro in mine and it was a monster - currently with The Bass Doc having a Musicman humbucker fitted!
4. Keep a look out on the classifieds here as they often come up after people try them and don't get on with them. I have just changed all my basses back to flats after a period of roundwounds - I just love the tone. And I mainly use a pick. As to which brand - that is very subjective!

Kev's Feedback

Bought some strings in a smooth, rapid and hassle-free transaction. Good price, promptly dispatched. A pleasure doing business.
6. Amp + BF Compact = Amp + BF Compact + BF Midget =
7. Somebody Told Me, Killers. I've heard it covered by loads of bands (even Tony Hadley, recently!) but not once played correctly. I tried to do it as per but found getting all those slides, with hands going up and down, to keep in the groove was really hard. That band no longer exists so I don't have to concern myself any more.
8. What about this Washburn Vulture? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111224594009?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
9. Doh! Same one, relisted
10. There is another white one just popped up on eBay - 24hr auction, no bids yet starting at £400. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331072113585?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
11. I have never met anyone on this thread, have no axe to grind, merely a bystander, rarely get involved in these off topic spats. But, Lowender, you are consistently and unequivocally the most patronising poster on this forum. Always quick to give the benefit of your experience and always washed down by a big spoonful of condescension. You may not mean it like that but that is how it comes across. And that is why you provoke this perceived 'ganging up'.
12.
It's turn of the century Precisions for me. I have a couple of 1999 models and have never heard or played better
I had the long term loan of a 98 USA Standard and wasn't that impressed - I guess the old Qc issues have always been apparent. My newly acquired JV0 Squier leaves it for dust. Frankly, so did my old Silver Series Squier P.
13. Not sure if this qualifies but a Squier Silver Series Jazz has a 40mm wide neck.
14. Bought Mark's Ibanez SR800 in a completely smooth, rapid and trouble-free transaction. Great comms, promptly dispatched, beautifully packaged and much nicer than I expected. A pleasure doing business!
15. My Fender Precision Lyte has a strat-sized body - smaller but similarly proportioned to a Precision. I don't know how feasible it would be to use a strat body with regards to the neck pocket/bridge position/routing etc.
16. Winning bid was £103!! Anyone here nab it for that? Unbelievable bargain!!
17. Taking offers on this now as he wants it gone. £800 worth of top quality cab going for a song!!
18. Ah. A much bigger problem than I realised! Strike my complaint from the record!
19. I bought the 'Studio Spares' own brand equivalent, which was cheaper. Struggling to find it on their website at the moment, though. But it is invaluable - probably the single cheapest improvement in your sound you can make.
20. How about a compromise - if you have the time and inclination, change the bridge pup for the one you have already and see if it is an improvement. If it is, buy the matching one. If not, change it back and keep/sell on the pup you have.
21. PM incoming.
22. Some feedback from me, if nobody minds. Firstly - I would like to state unequivocally that Basschat is the very best internet forum I have ever seen. I am very happy to go with the admin changes/moderation/charges for market place. I think everyone involved behind the scenes at Basschat does sterling work in the face of adversity - I ran a forum for 9 years and fully appreciate all the work that goes on and what a completely thankless task it is. Therefore I hate to be openly critical of the site, even on a tiny detail. However. Blocking bumping in the 'wanted' section does seem to me to be unnecessarily bureaucratic and pretty much makes it redundant. The numbers involved must be miniscule. When I have offered a bass for sale and I go to bump the advert after 48hrs it has usually sunk down to page 5 or 6 in that time. If I have a 'wanted' ad placed, it might still be on page 1 or sunk down to page 2 at the most. And that is alongside all the other misc. wanted ads for basses, cabs, amps, effects, leads, strings, straps, used gaffa tape etc. But eventually the ad drops and, without a bump, gets forgotten. I can't imagine many people search the 'wanted' section before placing a 'for sale' so the formerly useful marriage between people looking for silly things and people with surplus silly things gets lost. It just seems to be such small beans that it is hardly worth the effort and/or the minor irritation. I am sure one or two people feel pleased with themselves when they slip though the net and offer somebody a sale outside of the 'for sale' section but it must represent a miniscule minority of transactions. Or maybe not - have I missed something along the way?
23. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peavey-Fury-Bass-Guitar-/151167839717?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item23324e2de5 Just been listed. I have one courtesy of Flat Eric which is very nice indeed. Mine is lightweight (around 8lbs or so I think) with a *really* skinny and shallow neck, and I mean *really* skinny (37mm) and shallow. Precision bass-a-like with a slightly more aggressive tone than the usual Precision bass. These are beautifully made - in the USA - but go for a song. I reckon this will be lucky to top £170, which is a crime.
24.
But I do think it's a pity that a few people who have abused the "insert whatever the heck you like here" , have spoilt it for the majority of us.
Welcome to Life. That's why the statute books are brimming over with stuff.
