I am moving on my Epiphone EB-0 and, initially, will see if there is any interest in its pimped state before returning it to stock and selling it that way. I bought it on eBay in pretty much as new condition. I imagine everyone knows the score with these - shortscale, lightweight (7.5lbs) skinny neck that is actually nicely put together. It suffers from the usual neck dive, I offset this to a degree by using a wide and rough strap. I thought it was well-built enough to justify pimping, so fitted a few upgrades - the industry standard ones for Gibson, let alone Epiphone! First was a Dimarzio model 1 pickup. I put this in wired in series - you can put in a series/parallel switch if you like which is an easy fix, I believe. I bought this new from Thomann for £64 plus postage, which I think is the only place you can get one. Hipshot Supertone bridge - these cost around £95 new! Absolutely superb bit of kit. Also got one of Ki0gon's wiring looms which means that the pots actually do something now! So - buy this for the upgrades and you get a free bass! I took the scratchplate off and tried to fit it around the new pup, which is a slightly different size to the original. Messed it up completely so there are the usual small holes left in the body. I do still have it somewhere but it is next to useless. The body is in pretty much perfect nick with only tiny scuffs and marks. Having done all that, the blues band project I put it together for came to nothing and the bass has sat there redundant ever since. I like the shortscale but have a Fender Musicman that caters fro that when I feel the urge so it is time to let this go. I'm asking £150 in its present state, collected from South Benfleet in Essex. Or meet half way. Or I can deliver for fuel cost. I have no gig bag or case but lots of packaging and a box - postage will be £25. You might be lucky and pick up a secondhand 80s or 90s MIJ Squier for £200. In fact I might be persuaded to part with a Silver Series Precision for £200 as it doesn't do anything that my main precision does already. SGC Nanyo Bass Collection usually go for less than £200, which is a crime. If you can find one Peavey Fury basses sell for next to nothing - I bought one from Flat Eric for £165!! - they are great, USA built and classic P bass shape/sound but with skinny Jazz neck. Skinnier, actually. OLP MM copies sell for not much and are reckoned to be pretty good, although I have never actually even picked one up. But a decent Westone Thunder is hard to beat. Edit - I often play and gig with basses that cost under £200. No-one notices or cares.

A post bass bash bump (try saying that after a packet of wine gums) - a bit of interest but it is still here. Someone who had noodled on it for a while commented that he thought it wasn't nearly 10lbs - I have re-weighed it and he is quite right - under 9.5lbs, approx. 4.2kg. Nevertheless I am still selling it! So - £400 including Gotoh bridge and a functional EBS case. Postage £25 extra. UK only. -
I may in future try the P with a jazz neck combo.
That's the exact configuration that does it for me. I have a MIJ P bass with a Mighty Mite Jazz neck as my main 'go to' - feels just perfect. Wizard Trads and a P retro - nice!

A great day out - thanks to all involved. -
I don't have small hands by any means but find skinny and shallow necks much more comfortable to play. Even to the extent of just a couple of mm - recently bought a lovely Silver Series Jazz bass - beautiful old battered thing that sounds great - but for some reason the neck was 40mm at the nut. I am going to change it to a Mighty Mite Jazz neck as I just feel that much more comfortable with it. Just the way it is - big guys play Jazz basses, ladies with tiny hands play 5/6 string basses - no logic.

In my second transaction with Stevie in as many weeks I bought a nice MM pickup in a smooth and speedy deal. It arrived quickly and beautifully packaged. No doubt I will deal with him again!

My pleasure. Not sure if there is an emoticon for 'smug'... [/smug]

Another big Westone fan. Hard to beat for the money. I have a pimped Westone Thunder jet I am rather fond of that I picked up for £77 that is great - much lighter in weight than the IAs, an extra couple of frets and cool stealth look with all black hardware. Also a Pantera deluxe II X790. That wasn't cheap, mind you.
Any chance that someone coming has some Seymour Duncan P pickups they wanna flog?
I have a set of scruffy SPB-3s you can have for £30? -
Got to agree - I have the B2A with the drop D (B2ADB?) and it is great. Huge sound that is really P-Bass woody in places. I always take it as back up. The issues I have with it are those mentioned - lack of headstock, strap button tilting the bass away from you and, probably the thing that caused me most problem, the position it hangs from the strap. With no body kind of throws the head quite a long way off. All that plus a 2 octave fretboard and it does play mind games until you get used to it.

I quite like it. Light in weight, thin neck. I had a noodle on one briefly in PMT Southend and thought a few of the settings were quite interesting. But rather than make me want to buy one it has made me want to try a MM pickup in a non-MM bass to see what it will do. Just need to decide which bass to try one in. Westone Thunder Jet, maybe?

Nothing remotely like the question you posed, but have you considered one of the small headstock tuners? The Plant Waves Microtuner is a great little bit of kit http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Planet_Waves_CT-12_NS_Micro_Tuner/PW-PW-CT-12?CAWELAID=1830891618&catargetid=1823339655&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CJaa277xw7kCFfHKtAod4mwAkw

I bought one cheap on ebay that has a bit of an issue with the body that is making it pretty largely unsellable. Well, I bought it but the problem is potentially worse than I thought. In as much as the body could split into bits. Anyway, I've been chatting with the Bass Doc this week about turning it into a 'Mustangmaster' ©®™using a P-pup I have kicking about plus a Ki0gon wiring loom. I quite like the sound as is but it is a bit thin so it will be interesting to see how the pup change affects the sound.
