South East Bass Bash No.7, Surrey, Saturday 21st September 2013
Paul S replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Quality blog - captured the day perfectly -
I would imagine you are pleased - I think they have gone for a good deal more recently. I absolutely love the look of these but the neck is just too wide. But everytime one pops up I look at the listing longingly.

That is good to know. Don't do what I did and use Dulux Woodsheen...

Bought a J Retro - concise prompt comms, good price, well packed, speedy dispatch. Recommended!!

Tom just bought my Silver Series Squier Precision. Totally trouble-free transaction - he came, tried it out, said 'yes' and left me with a pile of used £20s. If only all dealings in life were so straightforward! Enjoy the bass, Tom.

I think if you like them it is a good thing that they aren't expensive. My Pantera X790 was at the time the flagship model for Westone basses - best of the best - and it shows in the way it has been finished. I wonder how much a mid 80s USA Standard Precision or Jazz would fetch in showroom condition? Bloody sight more than my Westie, I'll bet, which cost me £500.

Another victim of my bass cull. I bought this on eBay out of curiosity and discovered that, straight out of the case, it was the nicest Precision bass I have tried. Silver series were the last of the Japanese made Squiers (serial number says 91-93) and I think it is generally accepted that they raised their game for this final push. It is black with BWB scratchplate, maple neck that has a dark rosewood fretboard. The tone is remarkable, dark woody and moody. Everything a Precision bass should be. It is lightweight at around 9lbs and the neck is skinny by P-Bass standards - 40mm at the nut. Fret wear is hardly noticeable - plays and sounds like a dream. Body is a little scruffy - couple of dinks out of the paint here and there and a dink near the jack input. Not much bucklerash, even though the pic I took is useless. Pictures show a Badass fitted to it - I will take this off and put the BBOT back on unless you especially want the Badass, in which case it will be an extra £40. If it is so good why I am I selling it? Good question. I have assembled a Precision to my exact liking that is even better and this does nothing the other can't. No point having a double so it is going to help fund another crazy project (Musicman pickup into a Westone Thunder Jet). I am asking £200 collected from South Benfleet in Essex. Or meet half way. Or I can deliver for fuel costs. I have a gig bag and can package it in that, with bubblewrap, in a box for posting, which will cost £25. I am moving on my Epiphone EB-0 and, initially, will see if there is any interest in its pimped state before returning it to stock and selling it that way. I bought it on eBay in pretty much as new condition. I imagine everyone knows the score with these - shortscale, lightweight (7.5lbs) skinny neck that is actually nicely put together. It suffers from the usual neck dive, I offset this to a degree by using a wide and rough strap. I thought it was well-built enough to justify pimping, so fitted a few upgrades - the industry standard ones for Gibson, let alone Epiphone! First was a Dimarzio model 1 pickup. I put this in wired in series - you can put in a series/parallel switch if you like which is an easy fix, I believe. I bought this new from Thomann for £64 plus postage, which I think is the only place you can get one. Hipshot Supertone bridge - these cost around £95 new! Absolutely superb bit of kit. Also got one of Ki0gon's wiring looms which means that the pots actually do something now! So - buy this for the upgrades and you get a free bass! I took the scratchplate off and tried to fit it around the new pup, which is a slightly different size to the original. Messed it up completely so there are the usual small holes left in the body. I do still have it somewhere but it is next to useless. The body is in pretty much perfect nick with only tiny scuffs and marks. Having done all that, the blues band project I put it together for came to nothing and the bass has sat there redundant ever since. I like the shortscale but have a Fender Musicman that caters fro that when I feel the urge so it is time to let this go. I'm asking £150 in its present state, collected from South Benfleet in Essex. Or meet half way. Or I can deliver for fuel cost. I have no gig bag or case but lots of packaging and a box - postage will be £25. You might be lucky and pick up a secondhand 80s or 90s MIJ Squier for £200. In fact I might be persuaded to part with a Silver Series Precision for £200 as it doesn't do anything that my main precision does already. SGC Nanyo Bass Collection usually go for less than £200, which is a crime. If you can find one Peavey Fury basses sell for next to nothing - I bought one from Flat Eric for £165!! - they are great, USA built and classic P bass shape/sound but with skinny Jazz neck. Skinnier, actually. OLP MM copies sell for not much and are reckoned to be pretty good, although I have never actually even picked one up. But a decent Westone Thunder is hard to beat. Edit - I often play and gig with basses that cost under £200. No-one notices or cares.

A post bass bash bump (try saying that after a packet of wine gums) - a bit of interest but it is still here. Someone who had noodled on it for a while commented that he thought it wasn't nearly 10lbs - I have re-weighed it and he is quite right - under 9.5lbs, approx. 4.2kg. Nevertheless I am still selling it! So - £400 including Gotoh bridge and a functional EBS case. Postage £25 extra. UK only.
