    On impulse I recently bought one of these on eBay for just £72 - single pickup, active with 3 band eq, skinny neck, lightweight - I didn't think I could go wrong for that money. Very little about them on the internet and never seen one mentioned on here. I picked it up last night from where I had it delivered. Big surprise - it is very nice! I was expecting it to be much the same as my old Milestone III (but active) but it seems a level or two better. The neck, in particular, is very nice indeed and it has a half-decent Gotoh-style bridge. Not tried it at volume but straight out of the box at practice levels it seems ok with a decent enough range of sounds available from the eq, single pup notwithstanding. Has anyone fiddled with one of these in past - would there be an easy mod such a s a pup upgrade that anyone could recommend?

    My gig last night totally summed up why I do this. Travelled 75mins to a small pub in Suffolk, set up in a tiny corner, played to a crowd of 20. 50 would have filled the space. There was an immediate connection and although there weren't many people they all engaged from the off, singing along and dancing. There was a huge buzz and energy - we got called for 3 encores. Left with £40 in my pocket which covered the fuel to get there, paid for my meal and a little bit left over. I love it - to do something I really enjoy doing with a bunch of blokes I get on with, make a group of people happy for a night AND get some money? That's enough for me.

    If it were me, with your budget I'd keep your existing ABM head for now and buy a Barefaced cab. Alex will advise you which is best but I don't think you can go wrong with a Compact. That immediately solves the weight problem as 13kg for a head isn't a back breaker. Then upgrade the head as and when you have more funds. I think the choice of amp is so subjective that you would be best advised to try as many as you can. I had a shortlist of heads I wanted to try, with the Orange Terror Bass being the #1 contender and with no intention of trying a Genz Benz 6 as I didn't think I would like it. When I tried them, I didn't like the OTB yet was blown away by the clarity of the GB. In the end I favoured the warmer sounds of the TC Classic 450 - very impressed with the tubetone and compressor - but another person could easily think the opposite.

    Built 90s, I think, but hardly any wear. I bought this completely on whim about a year ago, played it very occasionally at home and used once at a rehearsal for a particular track that was later abandoned - it has sat gathering dust ever since. The guy I got it from bought it for a project, after which he didn't touch it - so it has had very little use and consequently in extremely good nick. I will take pics in the fullness of time but list it at the moment to test the water. This is a Korean re-issue - I asked about them on here when it came up for sale and the consensus was that these are much better quality than the Chinese ones. I even have a spare set of strings! [s]I paid £200 and that is what I am asking - it is worth all of that and more.[/s] NOW JUST £175 TO SHIFT IT. Absolutely no idea what causes it but I don't have the expertise to repair it. Someone who does can get themselves a bargain at £20 posted. [/s][/size]SOLD [size=2][s]Zoom B2.1u is in good nick, with box, power supply, instructions and I think I still have the Cubase CD. No issues.     Washburn Vulture bass on eBay, through neck, original hard case. This is probably 79/81-ish and top quality bit of kit. Matsumoku or Yamaki. Too heavy for me but deserves a good home.     Search 'Westone' on here and I am usually one of the first to chime in with praise. Awesome value for money - the necks are as good as anything I have played. Mine were all 40mm wide at the nut, incidentally. Too heavy for my particular brand of lumbar problem, sadly, so I no longer own one. My pimped Westone Thunder Jet is lighter and does sterling service.

    Yes, nice. I think that may have been mine once? I have (another) one that I have pimped and it is splendid indeed. Amazing necks and lighter weight overall than the Thunder 1A basses.

I'd reccommend one [/quote] Yes, I have owned three* and yours - now mine - is the best by a country mile. The drop D is extremely handy, albeit a bit in the way as that is where I rest my palm! I know exactly what you mean, though - I don't use mine much so the 'Phantom Headstock, plus full 2 octave neck means I really need to keep an eye on what my hands are doing. * this is a lesson in why you should never sell them.

    I have a B2AD for a back-up, bad back bass. Fantastic. Remarkably it can sound like a P-Bass, really woody, despite looking as different to one as is possible. Without wishing a de-railment, does anyone know anything much about the B-Bass? It strikes me that it is a B2A with a body and headstock, if that makes sense.

[/quote] Garry - keep reading, the other 6 appear lower down under the Youtube link... Gary - only got to Stevie M live once - but what a gig. Humble Pie - same line-up as the Filmore album as far as I am aware. This was at the Kursaal at Southend in, at a guess, 1973/74. But only for an hour! Bitter sweet evening, they were superb but it went too quickly. great memories.

    One band I play in do a final number which is an 'introduce the band' type thing during a 12 bar 'Messin WIth The Kid' - we all get a turn at it for 2 x 12 bars. I finish the 'solos' with my off the cuff, pre-arranged and much rehearsed solo, for the first 12 then in the second do 6 bars of something I nicked from 'A Packet of Three' live version of 'I don't Need No Doctor' It is the bit at around 4.25 into this: [media]http://youtu.be/RFy_xlzN5Sw[/media] Nice bass on this BTW - I think it is a classical piece but am not sure of the name? Then, as per above, everyone piles back in for the next 6 bars and we finish the track. It works a treat and usually goes down really well. In my other band we play Black Sabbath's NIB which, on the album, starts with a bass wah solo. The other guys keep pestering me to do this but I am not happy about it. What would YOU do?

    Sounds like he comes back into the chorus too quickly, too at around 3.08... but, yes, anything by Bowie before or around that time was outstanding. Live Ziggy stuff was incredible. His voice had power and a quality to it that he lost IMO by the late 70s
