[dude get obbm to make them, i have trace stuff and he recomended jack to jack when i got them i was like wow the thickness of the cable blew me away then i played through my amp and i was like wow, didnt think of getting right angled jacks!!!!!!(clever boy) the guy is awesome and i will be getting some more instrument and speaker cable jacks very soon.
^ exactly the same for my Trace stuff. Ended up with cables that look like they could be plugged directly into the national grid - over the last few months I have been gradually changing the cheap crap I started off getting (that is now inevitably failing) with stuff from Dave and it has been superb. Service is second to none, quality and value for money is hard to beat - can't recommend him highly enough.

Gigged last night with a combination of recently acquired gear that I haven't put together before and I still have a huge smile on my face - the sound was just exactly what I want. So, Trace Elliot rig - AH300-12 head, with just the pre-shape engaged, put through a 2x10 and the new humongous 1x18. Hmmm. Not a huge venue, just a pub, so I could have got away with just one smaller cab instead of schlepping all that heavy kit there. But worth it for that pit in the stomach feeling you get that (IMO) small rigs cannot give. First time I have gigged my new Fender Power Jazz Special. What a bass! Still not got my head around what the various knobs can do as they are a bit 'odd' but I found a sweet spot with a particular combination of boost/cut settings that makes me extremely happy. Sounds nothing like the Jaguar or anything else I've tried. And what I think has made a huge difference is that the bass came with a set of DR Black Beauties - these have more presence than the flats I have been using recently. Not overly bright, they cut through perfectly yet are still easier to play than any other roundwound I have tried. And I used a lighter weight pick - .83mm - with a lighter touch rather than the paving slab I usually grab which made playing the faster bits easier and I felt a bit more in control. Overall there was a huge foundation of sound with enough going on to cut through without being intrusive. This is for a heavy rock covers - UFO, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy etc - so just about spot on. Just thought I wanted to tell someone - makes a change from posting about problems.

Decided to move this one on - I bought it from Liam (bassix) in July this year after a bout of uncontrollable T-Bird GAS but, when push comes to shove, it isn't really me. Still, I didn't know that at the time. Not sure if I need to take any more pics as Liam did a pretty comprehensive job on it here (hope you don't mind me recycling this, old chap) : Previous Basschat thread Lovely looking guitar - the transparent black finish really is a deep rich colour with a hint of grain showing through - not like the wishy-washy colour seen in the stock pics on the Epiphone website - where you will find all the spec etc. But, basically, it is a skinny (set) neck, with active electronics and looks about as rock n roll as a bass can. From what I have read it is not much like a Gibson T-Bird, very much it's own thing. I haven't done anything to it since owning it - gigged it once, rehearsed with it maybe half a dozen times. The neck is divine - skinny and fast. A decent variety of sounds available too - I guess I feel a bit too self-conscious and posy with it strapped on, maybe someone 30years younger and 10" slimmer around the middle would do it justice. It comes with a good quality fitted Epiphone hard case - itself worth a few bob. I paid £250 for it, would like £230 back. Collected from SE Essex, I can bring it along to the SE Bass Bash if anyone is interested, postage would be fairly dear as, with the case, it is pretty heavy - if I said £22 for Parcelforce 48 that wouldn't be far off the mark. I would consider some trades - no instruments but here is a list of stuff I would consider with cash my way: - Zoom H2, H4 or Q3 - John East P-Retro - a hot P-type pickup or two. - Hipshot GB7 in chrome - Hipshot BT10 in chrome (assuming that is the one for a Jaguar bass) Ta.

That was me - good, not so far to shift it. -

Sounds like an idea - I have no firm idea what one of those contraptions will do. Also if anyone knows their way around Zoom effect pedals and how to program them, that would help an idiot like me. Another thought - I may have something to sell on the day - do we just pitch up and stick a notice on it or would it be an idea to do a post before the day so people know how much cash to bring.... -
Matt bought a guitar from me - instant decisions, immediate payment, good comms. Wanna buy anything else? Been a pleasure, thanks.

Thanks - yes, that it the exact model. Apparently one of the last UK made ones before it went to Gibson (I guess everyone says this? ) I did print off a copy of the manual when I first got it but wondered if they meant it! Obviously they did. Anyway, no experimentation for me! Thanks.

I have tried reading through the sticky topics but am frankly still being rather dim about this. My Trace Elliot head has a 'gain' control on it - whether or not it should be called this I guess is another issue - the usual advice seems to be to turn it up until you start to get the red light coming on then roll it off a touch. For the benefit of numpties like me there is a nice and simple 'thumbs up' sign which I understand. But what happens if you ignore this and turn it up beyond this? Are we in the territory of causing damage to the circuits? Is it the end of the world as we know it? Do I walk out of the rehearsal room to find a dystopian scene of smoking ruins and beggars in rags? Or is is purely a question of distortion of the sound? In which case I might have a bash. As you can tell, I don't really grasp much of this - roll on the SE bass bash!

My usual stuck record - you cannot go wrong with a second hand Westone Thunder 1A. 80s jap basses that are incredibly good value for money - great build quality and playability - the 1A active sound is immense. Heavy, though. They are always cropping up on eBay - there is an over-priced one currently but you'll often get them under £150. Or Gumtree. I paid £110 for one in great nick about a year ago.
As said previously a lot of Muse stuff is pretty straight forward.
+1 I am a bog standard 8th note paddler and when the rest of the band I had joined recently said they wanted to have a crack at 'Hysteria' I screamed, silently. But, once you break it down, it isn't that difficult.

I have just bought Si's Fender Power Jazz Special and the whole transaction was perfect. Lovely bass, beautifully packed, good price, good communications. Not even sure my cheque has cleared yet! Thanks old chap, it has been a pleasure doing business with you.

I usually use a Trace Elliot 15" cab when just using one at rehearsals - love it. I add a 2x10" when gigging for a more rounded sound. Just got me a billion year old Trace Elliot 18" cab... my god... I've yet to pair it with the 2 x 10 but there is noticeably more depth than just the 15" - there's a quality about the sound that you feel rather than hear. Quite heavy, mind you.

By way of a small update I will be, with the greatest delight, relieving geddys nose of his Power Jazz Special, so that ought to shut me up for a while. Thanks Si, looking forward to it with mounting excitement. Even if it isn't black.

Kent Armstrong Hot P vs Hot Vintage P vs Seymour Duncan SPB-3
Paul S replied to Paul S's topic in Accessories and Misc
Very true. Plus I have another bass it could go into that wouldn't hurt for the upgrade. Looks like I have talked myself into the Kent Armstrong for now. Thanks all. -
Thanks for the endorsement, tino. Yes, it is a good guitar for sure. Sexy beast in the flesh, too. I've had a few offers of trades for various things - just a mention that I am not really in the market for any instruments. But I have a list of stuff I am considering buying so would welcome trades with cash either way depending, for: - Zoom H2, H4 or Q3 - John East P-Retro - a hot P-type pickup or two. - Hipshot GB7 in chrome - Hipshot BT10 in chrome (assuming that is the one for a Jaguar bass) Probably worth mentioning just in case.

What can I say? Tom said he'd have my old Thunder Jet bass about 10 mins after I posted it was for sale. Money was in my account 10 minutes later. Had a bit of a chat, too - top bloke. Enjoy the bass Tom and thanks for such a speedy and smooth transaction.

so no drum kit to share. This has happened to us twice now (at the same venue - won't attempt playing there again) First time we heard the day before and the whole night was cancelled. This time we got there and found out. Silly thing is we rehearsed yesterday and our drummer only took his kit out of the car before leaving tonight. Really annoying. [/rant]
