On balance they are prob the band I like the most. Anyway, I can't choose but here's a great live version of the Nos on Beat Club.

adding a humbucker bridge pickup to precision bass

I had a MM Sterling 5er. There was (just) enough room to fit a split P in the sweet spot, if reversed, and a new scratchplate to accomodate it. I put the original back in place when reversed to sell it on. Sounded lovely -
Sadly they are the only type I have. Man at Mencap

I've had 2. Sold the first, missed it, found another, sold it and now miss it.

Hohner B2B is bolt on. Also has passive with PJ pups, not EMG which sounded more organic to me. It was always my preferred model. Finding one is another matter, of course.

Just glancing at the FBT ProMaxx 110A, wondering if that would have enough beans? It is significantly lighter again at 10.3kg, looks like it has the same amp but a different 10" driver. I am not versed enough in the data to make a meangingful comparison in my head.

There, fixed.

That is very interesting - a weight reduction that is worth having.

I guess that depends upon how it sits in the pocket. Assuming that a 35" scale length neck will be 17.5" from nut to 12th fret, it will have to be 17.5" from 12th fret to the saddle. Assuming the same number of frets, the bridge would have to be shifted 1/2" backwards.

Bass > Boss WL-50 > TC Polytune > TC Spectradrive > RCF EVOX 8 PA if it is my band. At home/other band situations RCF ART 732-A. Bigger gigs to the desk of whatever they provide. Having no need for backline I have found to be both cathartic and liberating.

Alternatively - an EQ/DI pedal and FRFR cab. It is what I use. RCF Art 732-A. Currently £100 off at Wembley Musci Centre, I just notiiced.

I don't believe you misunderstood anything - it is clear to me you knew exactly what you were writing and viewed it as another opportunity to be sneery about people whose opinions and likes are mainstream. Another one for my ignore list! Marvellous

I think I mentioned it earlier in the thread but I had a bitsa put together that has a 32" scale neck from a Hondo II H1015. The body was massively over my weight limit so I mated the neck with something else, after some fiddling with scale length and bridge position (an Encore double cutaway short scale) Entistle PBXN (yum). Boy, what a neck! 40mm at the nut, chunky in hand D profile. One of my nicest necks to play, I reckon. Fits my hand just perfectly and just that little bit easier to navigate than the long scales.

OK, so when are you going to do it? I'll probably not have the time to get stuck into something like this until late spring. Must say, though, that the more I think about it the more it appeals. I had a go with rattle cans once and the end result gave a similar finish to Tuffcoat This would saave all that undercoat, grain filler, sanding and polishing malarky
-
Good question. Heat gun and a scraper? No idea. Presumably it is tuff, so maybe not easy.

You know, I think we have all got the idea now, you're a real cool guy who likes stuff that is edgy. But do you really have to keep p!ssing on everyone's chips just to keep telling us? You've hijacked a perfectly innocent thread to once again tell us you find Fenders boring. You know a lot of people, including me, like them so can't you just leave us alone.
-
Like the proverbial to a blanket, I reckon.
-
I think this may have moved up in my head from 'silly idea, wait for someone with facts to dismiss it' to 'actually, I think I'll give it a crack!' Hmmm............... Won't be for a while, I have too many plates spinnning at the mo. But how bad would a 50s P bass look with this finish? I bought a bitsa that had been given a fairly clumsy relic job that could be a candidate. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? Vintage style bass with modern textured finish? Could look amazing. Or absolute sh!te.

Sold my Simon and Patrick acoustic guitar to Chris in the most straight forward and pleasant transaction Thank you, Sir, enjoy the guitar.

Probably the biggest 180 I have ever done is with country music. Growing up and for a lot of my adult life I hated it. But, for no reason - I certainly had never listened to it to make a value judgement. For various reasons I got to listen to a lot of it and found it to be, on the whole, a rich mine of beautifully crafted and played songs with sharp lyrics. I got to see the Zac Brown Band at the first Country to Country festival at the O2 and it has to be one of the very best live performances I have ever seen.

I'd be very interested to see some pics of the finished, er, finish if anyone has the time and could be bothered. Edit - for clarity, I mean anyone who has tried to achieve a flatter than normal finish. I have owned Barefaced cabs and know what it is like when applied 'normally'. I seem to recall reading that someone had managed to get a linen type finish, probably one of the serial cab makers on here

That's how I imagine it, too. Could be interesting! Then again, could be horrid. I wonder how much difference the grade of roller would make, like when painting emulsion. I've never used the stuff, mind, so have no firm idea how the texture can vary.
-
Just curious what it might look like. Best guess is disgusting but it would certainly be easy

I would suggest two basses, depending upon whether you favoured the Club or the Bronco. A Danelectro 56 single cut is similar in vibe to the Hofner but a far superior instrument all round. it will do the thud just fine, it will also do clank if you want clank. It can also do a passable J bass. I had both at the same time at one point and could easy make the comnparison. A Harley Benton PB-Shorty, which is a familar solid-body like the Bronco but in a different league. Forget the price tag. I bought one with the intention of modding it but, straight out of the box, it is great. Sounds like a old-school P bass, no nasal weakness like a Bronco. Tuners aren't great but they work just fine. Ignoring the price point it is a good bass. Considering the price point it is a miracle. Or one of these, Antoria New yorker https://www.facebook.com/417013792399839/posts/antoria-new-yorker-bass-30inch-scale-12k-destiny-humbucking-pickup-designed-with/417053982395820/ OK, that was three.
