Feedback for ikay

Feedback of the highest order. Just yesterday, Ian contacted me and asked if I was still looking for a P-Retro unit as he had bought one that was no longer required. Deal was done at 3:30pm, P-Retro arrived here 9am this morning. Absolutely the fastest, smoothest transaction ever! Thank you sir.
2. Haven't picked up a Squier jag but I own a Fender jag. CIJ, so a good quality, well put together instrument. When i bought it I tried everything on the wall of my local PMT and it ended up in a playoff between this and a USA Jazz - this won on looks and versatility. Playing it - simple - it plays just like a jazz - same 38mm narrow neck but also very skinny in depth. Skinniest bass neck I have played, I think. Heavy-ish - over 9lbs, feels comfy for my body shape (thick middle). Has J type pups in neck and bridge position that can be switched between series and parallel. I don't know if it makes it sound like a jazz/p-bass, but it makes a big difference to the sound. If pushed I'd say it favours the jazz sound, rather than the p-bass sound, but is really it's own thing. Add to that you can play it active or passive - active is a simple 2 band eq. Plus a tone control that works when active or passive. So there are a lot of sounds at your disposal - played active the sound can be immense but, with everything rolled back, it can also sound quite muted. I go through phases when I think it is too complicated and just tend to use it on a couple of settings I know work, but I think that is just me being lazy. But I think you come from p-basses(?) so you might find there is too much going on. I am considering putting a better bridge on there - maybe a Gotoh - but have no plans to get shot of it. Also there is a shielding issue giving rise to a slight mains hum if something metal isn't touched. I can, again, probably fix this if I wasn't a lazy git.
3. Can't find an existing thread so let me be the first to stick up some feedback. Bought a Trace Elliot head from Steve, who has been uber-patient, waiting until the snow cleared, then for me to get the cash, then he delivered it! Top bloke. And a fund of stories too - thanks mate.
4. Might be worth having a word with your local techie guy. The nut broke on my Jaguar in the same place as yours has and, when my regular guy took it to replace it he ended up repairing it with epoxy. I think he said it was horn. Cost me £15.
5. I do think this is slightly mad. I recently bought a MIJ Fender Power Jazz Special, which the serial number tells me was made in Fuji gen factory in '84-85, for £410 posted. It is in fantastic nick, came with a good quality hard case and has been upgraded with Seymour Duncans. Why should that be worth less than this Squier? Admittedly it was from fellow Basschatter geddys nose but still it makes you wonder.
6. I have one of these - Ultimate Guitar Stand GS-100 as here - seems to do the job and folds away into my holdall afterwards:
7.
I actually like these - had one many years ago
I actually like these and still use it a lot. Superb things. Sound immense when played actively - just rolled into the low boost and 'Wow'. And the neck is sooo good. For my money a better instrument than the much lauded VM and CV Squiers, so for £40 an absolute steal. I imagine with hotter pups it would be awesome - considering an upgrade for mine.
8. Good job it isn't a Klingon bass, they have a cloaking device that prevents email transmission.

Squier MB4

Gary - thank you for the pic - it is nice but I don't want one! I was just curious why no-one ever talks about them. There is always talk about the various Squier models of p- and j-basses, changing pups, wiring etc but never this one.

I think (but am not sure) that the skull and crossbones thing is a current special edition. Though not that special, if you ask me, unless you are pirate

Squier MB4

never see anything much on here about them, they crop up on eBay from time to time. I think they look nice - worth pimping? Just snowbound, bored and curious, really.
12. Just given in and ordered some green ones - I'm thinking on one of my stealth basses, possibly the jaguar, standing in front of the Trace Elliot rig, new head with UV tube, might look interesting...
13. Pose-wise Jaguars are fine into your 50s, I reckon. T-Birds are stretching it though... Nice basses, still in love with my stealth one.
14. Sold pending the usual!
15. Some pics I took today: As has been discussed on here previously 'They' say the Epiphone fitted case isn't big enough. 'They' are wrong Still got the key, too. Here is where the previous owner moved the front strap button to alleviate the neck dive thing. Just a neat hole left from it's old position. Currently fitted with Schaller-type strap lock button - originals will be put in the case. There's one on eBay at the moment that has about an hour to go as I type, soft case and already up to £255. Last one with a fitted case went for £270-odd. This is a bargain, guys!!
16. My recently acquired mid 80s Fender Power Jazz Special - with which I am bonding quite seriously.
17. Huge thanks to the organisers - I believe my steep learning curve just got a little shallower thanks to the workshops. Great stuff - look forward to the next!
18. That would be me. I think there is a drummer coming, along with Happy Jack who can now make it? Anyway, I'll stick it in the car regardless.
19. My own personal take is pretty much what has been said by others - I firmly believe that you reap what you sow in this life, without wanting to get all mystical - and if I get a decent deal on something I would generally rather pass that on to someone else than profit from it when the time comes to move it on. In the, perhaps naive hope that I will get treated the same. If I have spent a lot of time and money on something getting it fixed, that is a different matter. But that is me. We all have different values and go about our daily business in different ways. What is acceptable to some is sharp practice to others - it is like this in the rest of the world, no reason why bass players should be any different. Ultimately no-one has a gun to your head when you are looking to buy something - caveat emptor and all that - so do the necessary research and make your own judgements. I bought a pretty dud bass from someone on here once but I genuinely don't think he knew it so I didn't leave any negative feedback. My own tough luck.
20. These are around £340 new, case is £60, so £400 worth of gear here in excellent condition for just a whisker over half price!
21. Apologetic PM sent for being a grumpy old man...
22.
2 more weeks and this goes on EBay - I'm surprised at the amount of timewaters on this site!!
I'm kind of hoping that isn't me you're having a dig at, matey.
23. If I can handle the travelling I'll be there. Must be, what, 5 mins... add a contingency for heavy traffic, so maybe 8 mins Is this at Island Studios?
24. Does anyone have an Auralex Gramma pad they can bring with them for a quick before and after demo?
25. And again. Not a lot of money, this, and a lot of bass.
