1. This Steve Lukather cover of Hendrix's 'Freedom' is pretty damned funky.
2. I used TMT Music when I changed the scratch plate on my jaguar from cream/black/cream to black/white/black - sent them a tracing with the order. It looks the business now -
3. Don't they say 'you have no choice in growing old - but you don't have to grow up'? I'm 51, started gigging last year for the first time and am looking forward to many years of fun ahead. Our band is called 'Still The Thrill' for that reason.
4. My dad died in Australia when on holiday some years back. When I had his stuff sent home the HMC&I sent me a huge bill for VAT and import duty. I kid you not. I had to pay it then go through all sorts of crap to get the money back.
5. I used them a week or so back for some strap locks and they were ace.
6.
but I believe it's similar to Tascam, which I have,
If it is the Tascam MP3 BT1 it has a metronome function in it.
7. Jeff Berlin is one of my style icons, do you mind... Something about the way he wears his trousers, I think... One person's cool is another person's naff. It would be a boring old world if we all liked the same stuff.
8. I had a series of lower back issues and had a few sessions with a sports' injury specialist. He told me about a set of muscles I had never heard about - transverse abdominus (TVA) - that run underneath the front set of ab muscles and wrap around the centre of the body, anchoring into the lower back. He considers these to be one of the most important muscle groups you can exercise, affecting posture and pretty much everything you do, but are largely neglected which can, if you are prone to back issues, lead to problems. Certainly since being made aware of this and doing the exercises until the right posture becomes second nature I have had far fewer problems. It wouldn't hurt to make a few enquiries. A few weeks ago I bought a Hohner B2A from a fellow Basschatter (Hi Steve) and am currently in evangelical mode about it. It is incredibly comfortable to wear (with a slight mod to move the front strap button to somewhere sensible) and lightweight. I can hold it up by one finger when it is in it's case at arm's length (engaging the TVA first, of course) which, coupled with the Liliputian proportions, make it so easily portable. But, more importantly, it plays like an absolute dream - a really comfy, fast neck. And the active preamp give a great growly tone - it certainly punches way above it's weight. Aesthetically you love 'em or hate 'em - personally I think the economy of the design is actually effortlessly cool and will seek out the Hohner G3T (6 string equivalent) for when I want to noodle about with such a thing.
9. Watford? Bloody northerners. Anything further north than Chelmsford makes you a northerner in my book.
10. Until last week I owned a Hayman 4040 - cousin to the Shergold. I'd say it was giggable in as much as I did use it for a gig. Lovely thing, beautifully made but, for me, a pig to play. Moved on to a more appreciative owner now. Here's some pics, anyway.
11. Cooler than the inside of a fridge that has been set to 'very cool' here.
12. Reading through the post the last confirmed sighting was 20th Feb with Starvolt waiting for DHL.
13. I had much the same thing here. Although I actually started with a cheapo Peavey 'kit' I soon 'treated myself' to a gorgeous 70s Hayman 4040, for all sorts of nostalgic reasons as well as the build quality of the instrument. I got used to playing it and did the lion's share of my early learning on it, despite it weighing more than a double-decker bus and having a neck like a plank, and thought it was the mutts. Then I decided to treat the old girl to some new strings and noticed the perspex bridge (ah, those old 70s guitars!) was cracking and had little life left in it. I was devastated! Anyway, I decided to buy a new bass for rehearsing and gigs - and after a couple of afternoons playing everything on the wall in my local music shop got myself a nice skinny necked Fender Jaguar. Like you, I just couldn't believe the difference. To cut a long story short, I have now parted company with the Hayman. Nice as it was to have a real old vintage piece of superb quality it was like playing a floorboard, with about the same tone. She has now gone to a far more appreciative owner. The jaguar is just amazing to play - I guess that is modern basses - and I believe I have improved exponentially as a result.
14. Hopefully coming to the end of it's term with M4L666? My biggest problem is what kind of sticker to put on it when I am done. Decisions, decisions....
15. To my shame I'd never listened to this guy before. Absolutely and completely blown away by his technique and sound.
16.
I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave earlier.
Ah, I see my problem - the article didn't say 'will fit exactly on a fender Jaguar bass owned by Paul S'. Ta.
17. Ah well. Get's your sale back to the top, anyway.
18. Take a quick bump - I have a jaguar and love it to bits. Immensely playable and huge range of sounds. A question, which I have asked on one of the other forums but you have actually done it - has fitting the Badass make much difference? And was it a straight drop in or did it involve some fiddling?
19. Presumably it would make the same kind of difference to a Jaguar? And would it be a straight fit, do you think?
20. The Jaguar bass does this in it's vast repertoire of noises.
21. Bought Steve's Hohner B2A - dispatched promptly it arrived bang on time, beautifully packaged and exactly as described. Good communicator, overall a pleasure to deal with. Thanks Steve
22. Bought his Tascam trainer - good communicator, promptly despatched, beautifully packed, exactly as described - possibly better than I was expecting AND a good price. Thanks Alistair!
23. I bought Ashdown covers for my Ashdown kit - they fit like a glove and were cheaper than Roqsolid ones. Not sure they are actually of the same quality as the Roqsolid covers, mind you - Ashdown's aren't padded, just waterproof. That's all I needed.
24. To come on and develop so quickly it sounds like wax or maybe an infection - nothing serious or permanent, hopefully. Good luck. Hearing is something we all take for granted and usually only think about when it is too late - I know to my cost - Tinnitus and hearing aids in both ears!
25. Hi from Benfleet If we keep popping up out of the woodwork at this rate they'll be running out of white socks in the local Primark.
