Canterbury isn't far away...

I've decided to keep this after all. Would I rather have £200 or this bass? A no brainer! What was I thinking!

My cull continues. I've had this for ages but in all honesty I am unlikely to ever use it again. I have adapted it to my liking. I moved the tailpiece so it takes standard strings instead of just the Stagg ones. I put a gorgeous set of black nylon ones on that cost a lot of money - I believe they are Innovation Rockabilly - which feel, sound and, most importantly, look totally fabulous. I have adapted it to be played on a stand as per NS Design. The stand is relatively lightweight tattoo arm rest but perfectly stable. I removed the end pin - often a source of annoying noises and now reduced the weight a fair bit. I shielded the cavity which got rid of hum. I include in the sale a rarely encountered hard case, made of unobtainium, which I have beaten up a bit so it all fits nicely inside. 168cm long, if that helps. I include the end pin, 'arms', a bow (!) and original gig bag which hasn't quite fallen to bits yet. All mods are reversibe if that is what you want to do - I realise one man's improvements are another man's train wreck. Somewhere I have the Stagg double bass/EUB stand but I can't immediately put my hand to it. If I find it in time I'll include that in the sale. I'd say it is as nice as one of these can be, really - I have managed to polish the turd! If you fancy dipping your toe in the EUB water this is perfect. Asking £300 all in, collected from Benfleet in Essex. Which I reckon is a MASSIVE bargain taking into account the strings and hard case. prepared to meet within a reasonable distance but absolutely no courier.

My cull continues. This poor orphan of a bass has been doing the rounds at Basschat for a few years lookiing for a good home. Wonderful old thing that oozes quality. British made in the late 70s/early 80s? Serial number says it is a Modulator bass, which it clearly isn't, but the She4rgold/hayman bits were rather mix and match in those days by all accounts. 34" scale, single split humbucker that, if you have a stereo jack and at the flick of that switch, will take the top two strings off to one place and the bottom two somewhere else. Has the usual Shergold laquer cracks and blemishes but, to be fair, not as bad as some, overall in sound players condition. As you would expect it does sound a bit like a precision but not quite - slightly more aggressive in the upper mids. Neck is good, aged to a warm pale caramel, 40mm at the nut (plus a teensy bit extra for the binding. String spacing at the bridge 19mm. Weighs 8.6lbs on my scales which is roughly 3.9kg in decimal. Not had sight of the bridge cover. The shop sticker is still on the back of the headstock, not sure if Honest John is still in business. Makes a nice alternative to a Fender but feels as familiar as one when played. I struggle with the slab body otherwise I would keep it. Priced to sell at £350 collected from Benfleet in Essex, possibly meet up - Thurrock Services seems popular at the moment. Been there twice this weekend so expect the police to be calling round soon, wondering what I am up to . No courier at this point, so please don't ask, and no trades thanks.

This is still available Collection from Benfleet in Essex, which is between Basildon and Southend, a few mins south of the A13. I don't want to use a courier at the moment and have priced it to take a collection journey into account. I am in Ipswich tomorrow for a gig if that helps anyone. Bridge pickup works but output is weaker than the neck, 3-way selector switch does either or both Pic shows arrangement of tuners. Space looks a bit tight for a 5th one to me but doable with a complete reshuffle. But then you'd have to change the bridge and everything else.
