I saw them in 1975 at the Kursaal in Southend. It was an old dancehall with a sprung wooden floor and the whole place was like a trampline during Zoom Club. Fabulous.

This may be my favourite one yet from you know who

I wondered if the picture itself was genuine because of the interesting chord being fretted. -
I made it 21, but admittedly had to use my third hand to get there.

That is gorgeous.

What are the "Jazz" basses with thicker neck?
Paul S replied to mario_buoninfante's topic in Bass Guitars
If you were lucky enough an unmolested 90s Squier Jazz 'Silver Series' might turn up - these had a 40mm wide neck at the nut, the same neck as the 'Silver Series Precision', in fact. And were damned fine instruments, the pickups were superb as well. -
The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

I already have far too many basses. Putting that statement there as a marker. Following with interest re actual weight and how the controls work. Y'know. Just out of interest. -
Thought it might be a Basschat Live Chatbot.

Precision bass every time for me. There are several reasons why I prefer a P. 1. weight - generally Js are too heavy. There are lightweight ones but then 2. I prefer the look and feel of a P over a J 3. Sound. I've tried lot of basses over the years and sold most of them. Their only crime is that they weren't P basses. Just something ablout them I like, the way they sit in the context of the band. if I've ever had a P/J I will tend to just use the split coil. There was a time when the narrower neck of a J made me try more of them but, again over the years, this doesn't seem to be so important now. I'd say my optimum for a 4 string would be 40mm but happy a couple of mm either way.

Presumably the PJ would also have an ash body if left behind in a house fire. Sorry. Someone had to be the smart alec so it may as well be me.

Modding a '66 Mustang (really?? really???)
Paul S replied to Andyjr1515's topic in Repairs and Technical
IME it's never a good idea to have dictators fitted to your bass. I tried a Muammar Gaddafi on my Squier VM fretless Jazz once, started playing double harmonic scale in my rock covers. Got rid PDQ.- 125 replies

I don't thnk they will embed like a YouTube (but stand to be corrected if that is wrong!) so it is a case of clicking on the video in facebook so it maximises that window then copying and pasting the URL.

That made me chuckle. I call one of our regulars the 'zombie dancer'. It is like she used to dance, died, came back to life and the small part of her brain that hadn't quite decoomposed contained a vestigial memory of what to do - but not entirely getting it right.

I love learning new stuff at home, rehearsing, gigging - all aspects of the process of making music. We are lucky in that our drummer, Joe, is a farmer and there is the most amazing 11th century thatched barn on his farm that we use for rehearsals. The family used to hire it out for weddings etc but decided it was too much hassle, so it is pretty much ours to do what we like with. The acoustics are great We rehearse sometimes just for the fun of it as we all love making the music but generally there is a plan - a new song or a different arrangement. Here last week, you can see half the barn, we were running through a new song for us - Jesus Just Left Chicago - take 1. Alan had polished the vocal a bit by the time we played on Friday. https://www.facebook.com/Octaneblues/videos/1092408504761471 Test driving our new lights, too.

Thank you! That's the first time I have gigged with the Thunderbird and I was really pleased how it sat. Yes, as you know Alan does play loud. Particularly so on Friday - he had a different amp with him and, with no time for a proper sound check, we were unable to get the balance quite right. He did turn it down a bit second set after Joe had a word.

Sheilding and grounding..is there a difference

Of the Fender flavoured basses I have owned/currently own my two favourite Precision basses are a JV Squier and an Antoria, the latter was modded at some point in it's life with a '75 Fender pickup. Both slightly different from each other but both superb in thier own way. I've lost any GAS for P basses now and certainly not Fender ones. Well, except maybe a '54

My blues rock trio Toredown played at our 'regular' pub in Ipswich, The Shamrock, last night. I arrived a bit later than usual, found a rare parking spot virtually outside. We didn't get to fully set up until after the footie as our space was occupied by viewers but as the place wasn't busy we could get kit assembled by the side - in the event we kicked off at around 9.15ish, so not too bad. We have played better, all of us made mistakes but nobody noticed or, if they did, cared. By the time we were a short way into the first set all our regulars had turned up and the place was packed. Security had to turn people away at some point. Really good atmosphere, we went down really well, got paid more than we asked, no road closures on the A12 homeward bound so 60 mins to my door. Wonderful. Nice to see @Dazm66 who plays with our drummer Joe in another band. Next gig is supporting Dr Feelgood on 15th Dec

My blues rock trio Toredown at playing at the Shamrock in Ipswich, our local, tonight. Slightly concerned that there is an England game kicking off at 7pm and how that impacts on our set up etc. Anyway, if you are free and like a blast of good old fashioned RnB do pop along.

For a while I used an Airturn Ped Pro as a blue tooth page turner/scroller combined with an Android tablet - easy enough to pair. The app I use for the set list is SetList Maker but there are loads of these types of thigns.
