  1. All day long. The only basses I own currently that aren't black and maple don't come in black and maple.
  2. With the disclaimer that I, personally, loathe and detest the song with a passion, 'Walking On Sunshine' is a sure-fire winner at the end of the night. Also 'Walk Like An Egyptian' as everybody feels the need to dance like an Egyptian when p!ssed. Or even when sober.. Added bonus is a decent bassline.
  3. Here my blues rock trio Toredown at Ipswich Summertime last weekend. While My Guitar Gently Weeps. www.facebook.com/djangostrat/videos/377692370423340
  4. I'm just the same with Precision basses, really. I like Precision basses. I keep buying and trying all sorts of other things but, once the honeymoon period ends, I usually end up selling them because they aren't Precision basses. Trouble is.... once you pick up the scent of a new bass ... the thrill of the chase is such a good feeling
  5. I think it looks pretty cool long like that. I felt like growing my hair out once some years back. I'd left the police - so kept short - and fancied a change. My hair is naturally very curly and I thought I would look like Carlos Santana. 😎 But in the end I just looked like my mum. 🤣
  6. Lee answered my call for a set of TI flats! Great price, speedy dispatch, nice friendly chap, great comms. Thanks Lee!
  7. I worked my way through loads of Westones. Really liked every one of them. I had several Thunder 1As, both fretted and fretless, new style with the Magnabass pickup and old style. Couple of Thunder Jets. Love these - lighter weight and extra couple of frets. I managed to get one of the flagship models - the Pantera X760 Deluxe. All sold on, of course.
  8. Wisest words on the whole of the history of Basschat, right there. Edit, forgot to write the main point I had a Sterling 5 that weighed around 8.5lbs. Damned fine thing it was too.
  9. The big BBC stage right on the waterfront, 45mins of good old fashioned hard edged blues rock, if that is your thing. Come along and say Hi! Plus loads of other bands starting 11am.
  10. Sorry, not enough info - couldn't remember when I typed that. I've now looked them up. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Linsoul-ZS10-Resolution-Earphones-Detachable-Black/dp/B07BVKXYBB There was a bit of a kerfuffle about them on here when they first appeared. 5 drivers. At the time I got them direct from Hong Kong and they were silly cheap, around £30 iirc. Stuck inside the molded earplugs they give me the absolute best sound I have ever had for music - crystal clear, hi-fi. You can see if it works ok by removing the filters, sticking the molds into your ears and then pressing the earphones in so it makes a seal. I wasn't concerned about reversibility as I found the filters as supplied too much, didn't ever bother getting lower filters, so as ear plugs they were pretty redundant. And @Happy Jack the leads are replaceable And as far as hearing protection goes I now have superduper hearing aids (and on the NHS!) that I can turn down (or up) - effective giving me attenuation of everyday sound.
  11. Yes, I have. I used a set of those Z 3 driver phones and stuck them into the earplugs with clear silicon sealer. Worked a treat.
  12. You can't edit the patches per se but you get a lot of variety from each as the gain and overdrive knobs interact considerably - a bit more of one and a bit less of the other will give a different flavour. Plus, of course, all the EQ tweaks.
  13. I have one and like it a lot. I used to use the Spectracomp and another drive/DI/EQ pedal but prefer that I can now get evrything in one box. And, for what I want, it isn't a compromise, either. There are plenty of drive patches to download to see what is a good fit for your sound. Mine is 'Clean Boost' with the mids pushed a bit, bass and treble dialed down. Shame it hasn't got a tuner in it.
  14. Ben just bought my Guild B-301. He popped over the river from Dartford to try it out, fell in love, moved the money. Really nice chap - we share an interest in old horror films, too! A pleasure doing business!
  15. Those British Legion gigs have changed a bit since my day
  16. Simple for me. TC Electronic Poytune for tuning - small, accurate, bright display. TC Electronic Spectradrive for EQ, compression and smidgeon of overdrive - the 'clean boost' patch gives me exactly the sound I am looking for. TC Electronic should bring out a pedal that does all these things. A Polyspectradrivetune. + I am not a TC Electronic employee or endorsee. **More's the pity.
  17. Thanks Brian, yes, a lovely thing. I should mention, I am not looking for trades at the moment as the cash would be useful for something else I would like to buy.
  18. A feeler as I am still unsure... but if there is interest maybe. Guild B-301. I had GAS something rotten for one of these which got a whole lot worse once I found out some of them were lightweight. And, indeed, a lightweight one popped up for sale so I bought it and I travelled from Benfleet in SE Essex to Matlock to collect it. Here is the new bass day thread, which kind of describes it and has pictures. I will take some new ones in due course but it is now in much cleaner condition and is sporting TI Flats. In short it is a magnificent bass, superb build quality, oozes vintage charm and mojo in good '40 years of playing' but not abused condition. The tone is interesting. Just the single pickup but an wealth of sounds available. Full on it actually sounds a bit like a Rickenbacker. But don't let that put you off So why am I selling it? Two reasons. The first is the body shape - the lump is just where I rest my arm. The second - it isn't a Precision. I never learn, I just like Ps. At this stage pickup from SS7 in southeast Essex. Or meet half way or poss. deliver for fuel cost. Could try to sort out a hard case for courier but need to look into that.

    Weight

And there's the thing right there. The weight of a bass isn't an issue right up until it becomes THE issue. Balance, wide strap, playing stance, core exerises, pilates, yoga all help mitigate the effect of wearing a heavy bass but once you have a back problem the first question you ask is 'Can you please accuratley weigh this bass?'

    I aim for 3.6kg these days. 8lbs.
  21. The srew is a fine tuning device, it is the lever down the side tha operates the drop. Handy, if you like that sort of thing
  22. You have the handy drop D, too. Nice one.
