Well, had a think, measured and remeasured then sent off for the Artec pups. I reckon they will fit with minimal fettling and be a completely reversible mod if necessary.
We'll see if they are an improvement
Also got a Hipshot Supertone 2 point bridge on its way whilst I am about it.
Just to add a counterweight to the depressingly huge numbers of bad stories.
I had a bass booked with DPD via Eurosender to go from here in SE Essex to just outside Glasgow. Pickup was Monday 11th. No-one turned up. I sent an email to ask what was going on and got a reply from Eurosender at 11:58 to say they had just been told by DPD that they couldn't do the delivery because the main office for them was in Luxemburg, even though it was going to and from UK addresses. Another Brexit casualty.
I then went onto Interparcel and booked TNT. I was surprised to see that, even though it was 13:02, I could still expect same day collection. At 14:02 the chap arrived. 10:02 next day the bass was delivered. Astonishing!
Dr J Sparrow driver and DI. Good bit of kit, decent low budget Sansamp clone, PSU (not included) not battery. I found the drive was very sensitive to attack, which was a nice thing.

Used Fender Custom '62 Precision bass pickup set. I bought these new, de-soldered the brass shielding plate, fitted into a bass, took them out. Brass plate needs soldering back if, indeed, you need it.

Chase Crossrock padded gig bag for a Thunderbird bass. When I bought my T-Bird the it was in a hard case but the guy gave me this as well. I've never used it but someone has as every single zip has part of the rubber tag missing! However, the bag itself is in excellent nick. There is a double pocket on the body and a double pocket on the neck. A reinforced foot. Padded back pack straps that have a little pocket in one side. Not the best gig bag you'll ever see but if all you do it take your T-Bird from the car to rehearsal/gigs it is just the job.

Hmm. I asked one of the Artec dealers for dimensions. If I had 2mm routed out from the width, took the Maxon cover off and used it with the Artec pickup then it might just squeeze in. But I need to think about whether it it worth it or not.
Right, had a better look and taken some pics.
Bridge pickup. Measured it properly A straight drop in for the Artec minbucker.
But neck pickup is a completely different size to either the Dimarzio or the Artec mudbucker. Bugger. There is but a single coil inside that box, you can just about see it.
Will do. I had made a note of the serial number on the back of the neck pickup when I looked first time and it worked out to be a '72 but what was going on with the coil/s I just don't remember
