  1. How strange! Wonder why they did that?
  2. Possibly thinking of 'Silver Series' which were one of the last hoorahs for MIJ Squiers? Actually they were damned fine instruments, too - I had both a P and J from the 'Silver Series' and they were excellent. The P bass in particular. Vista Series were defo Chinese and, I think, a bit later.
  3. The Chinese Squier 'Vista Series' Musicmasters seem to have rocketed in price recently. I had one for a while and would say it was an excellent little bass. A league better than the Fender Musicmaster I had at the same time. But they seem to change hands for more than MIJ or more recent P/J Mustangs, which seems a little unwarranted to me.
  4. Absolutely not. Monsters are gender non-specific these days. You are conforming to old fashioned, institutionalised monstereotypes. 🤨
  5. I bought one recently - a 1980 in great original nick - paid just shy of £900 and drove from SE Essex to Matlock and back to collect it. I would say it was worth a premium price because it was a rare lightweight one but, regardless of that, I would say it was worth every single penny. Beautifully made and, indeed, TOOOOOONE FOR DAAAAAYYYSSS For my requirements - going to use it for my blues/rock trio - I reckon it is the best bass I have ever bought. If you consider that some folks would pay nearly double that for a Precision of the same vintage then I'd say it is a bargain.
  6. Hanging on a String, Loose ends
  7. Doobie Brothers! 2017 they played at the O2 'supporting' Steely Dan - in as much as they went on first. Anyone else catch them? Probably the best gig I have ever seen, from the first bar of the DB to the last bar of SD.
  8. Copperhead road, Steve Earle
  9. And a nice selection of boots, if you don't mind my saying
  10. Actually this isn't an issue for me, luckily. I don't really use effects as such, just want to fatten my core tone and then leave it on all the time. It has the compressor that I like plus a DI so it is the only pedal I need other than a tuner. Now there's an idea - stick a tuner in it! They could call it a Spectradrivecompolytune. I reckon that would fly off the shelves. As long as it wasn't in a wooden box.
  11. Copa cabana, Barry Manilow
  12. So pleased to have read this thread! I have the TC Spectradrive pedal and had been using 'Natural Drive' - that was OK but a bit too fuzzy for my liking so most of the time I left it switched off. I had a proper read of the toneprints available and it seems that 'Clean Boost' approximates to the Spark Booster. I had previously ignored it because I didn't want a clean boost! So I beamed 'Clean Boost' into the pedal, boosted the mids a little, cut the bass a tad and - yum, there it is - the drive I've been looking for Really fattens it up in the way I want it to. Another score for Basschat!
  13. Thanks for this! Looks like it might, I'll investigate. it is a good price.
  14. I have a mid-range Sigma strung with La Bella white nylon flats. There was a lot of love for these strings a couple of years back so I got some to try - not cheap! - and they are, for me, perfect and every bit as good as folks were saying. Pretty bright, by nylon standards, and with a really nice feel to them.
  15. This is pretty much exactly what I do. Not sure how much better I am going to get but hopefully I won't get any worse
  16. Black. Another vote for Brian. TBF to Tim, the Scratchit plates are something different. AFAIAA they are all 1 ply clear with printing behind, even if the printing is coloured. As opposed to the usual plastic 3 ply or whatever.

So the pedal costs around £210 plus tacks. Well, someone needed to say it so it may as well be me If you want to talk about dangerous packaging, I have on a couple of occasions cut my finger on those staples that Thomann and other retailers use to keep their large cardboard boxes together before they are taped. Now THEY are dangerous
  18. I was just about to post 'in that case, Steely dan...
  19. Love the tone in this. Yamaha miming in the video, certainly sounds like it could be.
  20. Can you feel it, The Jacksons.
  21. I could mention lots as it is that very thing that I like about a band. But possibly a stand out for me would be Faith No More. I can't say I particularly like them, never really listened to their output much other than to think 'meh' and move on. But they were one of the bands in a all day job at Hyde park a few years ago, Black Sabbath were headlining. God, 2014, just looked it up! How did that happen?! Anyway, also Motorhead, Soundgarden, couple of others. Faith No More came on and I reckon it was one of the best live performances I have seen from a band. Tight, edgy. Delivered with venom and passion. Absolutely fabulous - I was spellbound. Just reformed or something? Not sure on that. Black Sabbath were pretty amazing, too. Motorhead were terrible, poor old Lemmy was a sad sight.
  22. You weren't implying it. You said it quite plainly, spell-check notwithstanding. In the third person, as well! 🤣 Bilbo was provided with an ‘isolated bass’ version of the tune after his was three quarters of the way through the transcription and, on listening to the exposed bass parts, realised that the bits he was struggling to hear were actually ‘clinkers’, minor errors that don’t cause the momentum of the part to collapse and are left in simply becasue the overall feel of the performance is worth the conmpromise.

Lets face it, there are some folks on here that, were they to receive a cheque for a million pounds from Alex, would complain about the signature. 😁 Such is the nature of the internet.
  24. It is my pleasure to tart off a feedback thread for tachycardia aka Paul. I sold him my Danelectro '56 bass in the most pleasant of transactions, great comms, really friendly chap An absolute pleasure doing business. He also now has the largest bass hard case in the known universe to dispose of!
