  1. I stumbled upon this the other day. Totally not my thing but, well, Maddy Prior. In the comments someone says her voice is like a laser. Mrs S and I are followers of Go West. I've probably seen them live more than any other band. Peter Cox has the most remarkable quality about his voice, especially live. Aided, I suspect, by the fact that he reaches the high notes using his eyebrows. This is one of their lesser known tunes, a far cry from the vest and monkey wrench early stuff.
  2. I get it, it is ok. No need to labour your point, Michael.
  3. I am genuinely surprised by this. In asking to get folks to disagree politely I am now the bad guy? I find this ironic. Anyway, lesson learnt, I'll keep my nose out of other people's discussions from now on. 'Nothing to see here, move on'. 😁
  4. Well, I may have my 'cranium up my anus'. I prefer to think of it as old fashioned courtesy and manners that, if I disagree with someone, I don't resort to ridicule. Yes, we all like different things and, yes, we all voice opinions about it. My point is let's just play nicely. Sorry if some of you think that is tedious - I'll get off my high horse now
  5. You disappoint me, Chris. I thought you were better than all this.
  6. Wot he said.
  7. I wholeheartedly agree. And actually it isn't the OP I have contention with, rather a lot of childish ridicule presented by some of the folks who don't like it. And that is the bit that I am not comfortable with because it then extends the notion of ridicule to anyone who does like it.
  8. I've not listened to it, nor will I, but this thread highlights what I perceive to be an increasing thing recently. Seems to me that there are a handful of self-appointed arbiters of taste on here just waiting to tear apart anything that doesn't meet their own personal criteria for 'a good thing'. Get some perspective, guys.
  9. I was in a band for a short while with male and female singers both of whom were rather handsome examples of their gender. It soon became apparent that there was some kind of spark between them which resulted in both leaving their respective partners to become an item. Both had kids and it got rather messy. Worse than that, they then ganged up and believed it was 'their' band and started calling the shots. And that was that. Shame really as everything started off really well. The drummer was the best I had ever played with - ex-pro dragged out of retirement - but he was so whizzed off about it all that he packed up drumming.
  10. Another possible trade - SKB 44 hard case plus a bit of cash. Oh, and bump.
  11. I went through a phase of routinely changing the BBOT in my Fenders et al and tried most of the available aftermarket bridges. Not for any sonic reasons but because I preferred the look of many and the adjustability of some. Mainly, though, I found the BBOT uncomfortable on the palm of my hand as I used to pretty much anchor it to the bridge whilst stabbing away with my pick. Especially, as has been noted, where the saddle height grub screws poke out. It seems that these days my hand has quietly migrated. I play a lot more finger style than I ever did and I guess as a result of that I don't tend to rest my hand on the bridge quite so fervidly now even when digging in with a pick - only really for palm muting. So as a result I don't find the BBOT quite so uncomfortable any more (although I will still replace sticky out saddle screws). Saved me a fortune!
  12. I'd say Thomann must be hard to beat. No quibble, free returns and a speedy service. I did have an issue with them once but as it turned out it was my fault, not theirs! Since then I have nothing but praise for them.
  13. I need to shed some gear so unfortunately this has to go. I bought it earlier this year for those 'bad back' days because it is so light. Danelectro '56 bass. Glossy, piano black with cream embossed binding, rosewood fingerboard. Short scale, weighs just 2.6kg (under 6lbs). The thin semi-hollow body is constructed from Masonite, just like the Longhorn, which is effectively hardboard but with wooden bits in the necessary places for strength and rigidity obvs. Tight string spacing at the bridge, maybe 16.5mm and wide at the nut at 44mm. Currently strung with (I think Status) black nylon tapes. Passive, two lipstick pickups, switchable for front/both/back. Vol and tone. Adjustable bridge. In extremely good condition. One or two light marks. The neck strap pin is placed in such a way that getting a strap on it can be fiddly - hence a small scuff mark. With its retro styling, if it isn't the coolest looking bass on the planet then it is certainly worthy of a nomination. I'll say the weight again - 2.6kg. Not a typo. It sounds like a Danelectro, don't know how else to describe it. OK, I'll try. Front pickup is rich, warm and thuddy. Back pickup more nasal. Selecting both gives a burpy, almost Jazz bass, tone. Just like the Longhorn, in fact, but with a slightly less extreme styling Weighs just 2.6kg, incidentally. Looking for £250 £225 £200 posted, I now have a hard case. Or collected from SE Essex £180. This is a firm price, these are £500 +/- new. Could meet half way or possibly deliver for fuel cost but I REALLY don't want to stick this in a box and leave it to the vagaries of couriers. Trades - strange as it sounds I would take PX on an SKB -44 hard case. Or I would be interested in trading this plus cash your way for a Barefaced One10. But no basses - that is why I am selling it.
  14. Perhaps Gary will know @cetera - did you wear such things?
  15. My T-Bird needs are catered for jus now but can I just say what a nice magnolia that is. Looks a picture of health. Does it flower yet?
  16. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363144946049?ul_noapp=true These are amazing guitars, often called Les Paul slayers. Could be someone will be REALLY happy if this doesn't rocket a the end.
  17. It is just shy of 100cm long.
  18. Never mind the bass, the action figure clearly shows a 6 pack. I can't imagine the rather fleshy Mr Simmons ever sporting one of those, even in his heyday.
  19. UK City of Culture 2017. A good friend of mine lives nearby and says they were marketing it with T shirts that read 'Come to Hull, it isn't crap any more'
  20. Cheap, too!
  21. The cheapest bass I have ever bought was a Harley Benton Shorty P bass couple of month ago at £80. The only thing I changed is the scratchplate, all the hardware is fine. Pickup is great, sounds like a vintage P should. I find it miraculous that a bass of this quality can be produced for the price of a pedal. I've only managed one proper gig since Covid arrived and I used this. Anyone in the market for a short scale should seriously consider one of these.
  22. People will look at it, think it is silly, point and laugh. That was hard work but I think I got away with it.
  23. That's actually a difficult question to answer. I'd say they are fairly loose but my 'fairly loose' might be your 'way too slack' as it is so subjective. They work for me just fine but they might not for you. All I can suggest is that, if you enjoy the 344s, that you get a set of the 324s and try them. If you don't get on with them, I'll buy them off you. At a good used price, obvs. That wasn't much help, sorry
  24. It worked just fine for Hamish Stuart, who occasionally carried the bass part and is (still) one of the funkiest men on the planet. You could do a lot worse than get yourself a Harley Benton Shortie precision bass. £80 +/- depending upon the exchange rate which is nothing short of a miracle. 30" scale, sounds like a Precision bass should sound, weighs around 3.2kg if I recall correctly. If it didn't work out you could flog it for not much less.
  25. Yamaha 5ers are amazingly good for the money. A used BB425 will leave you plenty of change but not leave you feeling short changed.
