  1. Thanks gents. Looks like it will be this Saturday
  2. Edited the title as it looks like this is going ahead. Benfleet to Matlock is largely on the M1. Last time I travelled on the M1 it was a nightmare, but that was my fault for going on a Friday. Are there any better times - Saturdays? Mid week?
  3. My nomination goes to the Harley Benton Shorty P bass. A nothing-short-of-miraculous £80 new. Stick on a blindfold and I'd be hard pushed to think a bass of this quality didn't cost £4-500. I've had just the one gig since Covid and I used it for this, sounded brilliant. Just like how an old school P bass should sound. Short scale, weighs next to nothing. I fully intended to change hardware/pickup etc but, actually, I don't need to. The tuners aren't the best but they do the job. The only thing I am changing is the scratch plate as I don't like white ones on black basses, but that is me.
  4. Carrying on, sort of, from the short albums thread.... have you ever been to a gig that finished waaay before you expected it to? My starter is Humble Pie. 1974. They played the Kursaal in Southend and, in terms of power, energy and quality, it remains one of the best gigs I have ever seen. But they went off after 50 mins and didn't come back. So who left you high and dry?
  5. This gives me an idea for 'disappointingly short gigs'...
  6. He actually played on all he studio recordings, too. Such was younger and prettier so was the 'face' of the earlier live stuff and publicity material.
  7. If you are considering a Hohner B2 series bass.... there is an exceptionally keenly priced one in the classifieds at the moment... 🤨
  8. There is a model out there somewhere with a better adjustable bridge. I think it is called the Longhorn Pro.
  9. Hard to imagine a better bass for the money. Fabulous basses full stop, let alone for under £200. I have the 5er. In fact it is the second 5er of these I've had, plus an earlier 4 stringer like this.
  10. Still in Bas? Please send them my condolences I don't venture into the Belly of The Beast that often these days. There is a totally fab Indian restaurant in Eastwalk Mrs S and I go to from time to time but that is about it. In fact last time was last week and construction of the new cinema complex had ground to a halt (for the second time). Not great timing!
  11. Also, for some reason not all P bass split coil pickup covers are exactly the same size. It might be that some will fit the holes AND the pickup, not necessarily the ones that came with it.
  12. Me too. Spooky!
  13. I've decided that, weight depending, I will drive up and collect it myself. Not that far, in reality, plus it is a cash only sale. But mega thanks for the offers, it is hugely appreciated.
  14. My Yamaha SB-35. Moved it on when I started to play 5 strings and sold off nearly all my 4s. it is most unlikely I'll ever find another one of these. I did pester the guy I sold it to but, understandably, he doesn't want to part with it.
  15. There used to be one in Basildon town centre. apparently.
  16. Wow! We have 2 legs covered!
  17. Thanks to @AndyTravis I have been alerted to a bass I am after coming up on Facebook, collection only Matlock. It is exactly what I am looking for Is there anyone out there who would be prepared to pick it up on my behalf, pack it up and courier it? Or, indeed, start off a relay? Here's hoping... Paul
  18. I have one on its way, too, thanks to Davie. BWB for my Harley Benton Shorty P. I'd probably have it now, in fact, had Royal Mail not sat on the original for a few days once I'd posted it.
  19. I put my Sprackenbacker in one of these Thomann ABS cases. Fits exactly. https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_ebasscase.htm
  20. Yamaha BX-1 would get my vote.
  21. 🤣Cattle Decapitation 🤣
  22. My old covers band did this - never failed to get a huge sing-a-long and the element of surprise when it kicks in was great to see people's reactions.
  23. oops. Didn't spot that.
  24. Thought it might be amusing if we collectively put together a set list that has songs the title or content of which is somehow relevant to Covid. I'll start with two: Come On Over To My Place, The Drifters. Behind The Mask, Eric Clapton. Your turn
