A bit late to the game, sorry Chris. I bought a set of books/DVD's from Chris is an easy transaction, even with postage in the strikes. A real pleasure doing business with you sir. (another) Chris

I've got the MB4410, not so portable, but can (and has) stand up to those Marshall Half-stack JCM guitarists. The tube pre-amp has a world of gain and makes my Seymour Duncans growl. Watts-wise it is huge. Now I play in a quieter band, I rarely run it past 5 on the (real) tube pre and 3 or 4 on the main out. It's got two switchable channels, the tube "classic" and a sweepable 3-band "modern" with a built in compressor. You can blend these two channels for even more versatility. I must admit, I never use the amp compressor cos I run a EBS MultiComp. The only downside is the size/weight of this combo, around 50kgs, but it'll fit in a small hatch with the back seats down. I've never needed to run an extension, but the integral cab is 4ohm, as are the marshall extensions. This might put people with a collection of 8 ohm cabs off. I'm changing to a Shuttle combo in the near future as the new band doesn't have a van. So if you want to try this beastie out, look out on the sale forum. Chris

My custom J bass - Shuker bass building course July 2009
ateyercheese replied to ateyercheese's topic in Build Diaries
Cool, you're from Sheffield too. The bass is looking really good. I was thinking of doing the course and was going to build almost the exact same thing! One quick question, do you end up using a lot of the big power tools to get things done (bandsaw, table saw, planer etc) or do you use more hand tools and hand held power tools?
It was a mixture of both. the main templates were cut out on the bandsaw then hand-routed to shape. equally using band/bobbin sanders on the rougher cuts, then sanding by hand. It's possible with hand held power tools and hand tools, but it'll take longer. Hope that helps. -

ateyercheese replied to ateyercheese's topic in Build Diaries
Hey guys, sorry about the final update delay, went straight to sound check last night and played a gig, unfortunately not on the new girl as we didn't quite get to finish up the electronics and set up. I had a great week, a fantastic experience and it was great seeing these guitars come together with all the hard work. Thanks to Mikey for posting the victory dance photos, i've completed the facebook album now too; Facebook album I'm looking forward to dropping in the right EQ and getting the setup and finish just right. I thoroughly recommend the course to anyone, you can't have less woodworking experience than me and I managed it! Cheers all -

Started on the necks today. cut to shape, routed and truss rod in, covered and planed down. The slotted fret boards are gluing over night, then loads more sanding on the body, gotta get rid of all those machine marks! Let me know if you can see this facebook album, it's getting updated as I go, Facebook Guitar Build Album -

Cheers dude, That's actually quite old material from a previous line up (including the bass (oops!)). We're working on a new album now and I've done some live recordings to put up. I've actually got a gig on the Friday we finish the course in Sheffield, if you wanna check us out? I'm wondering whether the build will be cured enough to christen.... -
Just bought an EBS multicomp off John, nice easy transaction and well packed! Thanks John, Chris

My custom P bass - Shuker bass building course 20/07/09
ateyercheese replied to Mikey R's topic in Build Diaries
I like the jaunty attitude of the Tele plate too, but the P-bass hybrid curved control surface is nice. I'm still umming and ahhing, but I reckon I'm gonna forego the plates and go for a nice wood finish. -

Hey, yeah, maybe halfway between the two. There's no top veneer, but the colours good. That first one looks great, without the guard and control plate. I'm heading towards the Seymour Duncan SJBs and STC3 pre/EQ but that naked is pushing me towards the natural finish... 3 weeks and counting!
