Speaking of Ashton-under-Lyne, these guys have a Tribute M-2000 in stock. The shop is legit and has sold one of my basses in the past. Smooth transaction, they even sent me some good packing material. The M-2000 is a more traditional model as it has a 3 band EQ and the MFD pickups are a bit underwound (but apparently still hot). Maybe something to look into too? https://www.sellusyourguitar.co.uk/product-page/g-l-tribute-m-2000-gloss-black-electric-bass-1

I recently looked into getting a G&L L2K (again). Apparently, they are the poor man's Wal and, as a big Tool fan, I really need one (as I cannot afford a Wal). Anyway, I came across these beauties (yes, I like red basses): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/356755443903?itmmeta=01JRYXYQJQB3DPQAJGK1RVSWX6&hash=item53104810bf:g:D4gAAOSwwJVn5CbN Killer looking bass with some interesting history: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/anyone-know-any-info-on-this-g-l-l2000-bass.1596387/ The bass has been on ebay since March 26th. I guess the asking price is a bit on the high side. A price between £1000-£1200 is probably more realistic. Probably worth reaching out to the seller with a reasonable offer. This one I found in an online "bargin[sic} bin". Made in Korea Tribute model (so early 2000s). They normally get rave reviews. Great looking bass. Again, the asking price is probably a bit too high: https://www.m-guitars.co.uk/gl-bass-guitar-legacy-l2000-cherry-sunburst/5900 Well, I eventually decided to get a Spector Euro (again). I ordered it from Japan and it has been stuck in customs for 9 days now. Well, should have gotten one of the L2Ks instead, I guess.

The MP 40 is now available at Thomann ("Sweeter than chocolate Easter deals)" for £194 (inc. VAT, free shipping). Reduced from £279. Great price 👍 I just ordered one myself, should be here on 16th or 17th. https://www.thomann.co.uk/tech_21_sansamp_geddy_lee_mp40_limited.htm

Easter treat from Thomann. NS Dimension 4 for £1,222 (incl. VAT, free shipping). I am not into multiscales, but someone here may be: https://www.thomann.co.uk/spector_ns_dimension_ms_4_walnut.htm

Good thing is that you can try it out in person. For my most recent Spector purchase, I did not have that luxury. I saw a nice looking black cherry Euro on Reverb, sold, or better advertised, by one of these Japanese resellers. I used digimart to find the actual seller, contacted them directly and got a much better price. Now I am waiting for it to arrive (actually, I am waiting for Parcelfore to send me a letter to pay import taxes and duties. The bass is already in Coventry) and the big moment of truth - will I get along with the neck or will it be too chunky? My previous Spector that I bought from Japan also looked great, but had a chunky neck and I sold it here on BC. Well, the same fate may await the newcomer. Should find out this week, so wish me luck and/or keep an eye on the BC marketplace 😉

Man, I love the look of the bass and it really is very rare. A limited edition that only a few retailers seemed to have stocked. I found two in Europe, one in Germany (Musik Produktiv) and one in the Netherlands - https://www.tfoa.eu/en/shop/sxeuro4lxmwhs-spector-euro4lx-limited-edition-bass-white-stain-matte-70314 Price was € 2,147 (exc. taxes), so £1.8k plus VAT would have brought us to £2.2k plus shipping, maybe £2.3k ish. So, £1.6k is still a bit on the high side, but it is rare and if it is in pristine condition, then maybe it is worth going for it.

Nice Stormtrooper look. I hope you'll like it 👍

Wow, wow, wow. Bass Direct seems to be really state-of-the-art now when it comes to using technology. Much more activity on social media and now also using ChatGPT to post here. Why do I say that? Well, as we all know, Mark, Marcus and Ash work at BD. Mark cannot have written the post as it says "good catch-up with Mark" and not "with me". Marcus and Ash also cannot have written it as it says "Sorry Marcus and Ash didn't get a chance" and not "Marcus and I" or "Ash and I". So, clearly written by ChatGPT, like this post, by the way 😉

Finally, someone says what we all knew already

Totally agree with the judge 👍 -
Looks killer 🤩

There must be several different types of bridges on Spector basses. I remember that the one on my black 2020 LT felt rather plasticky, maybe it was the black coating. I still remember the chunky neck on that one. Did not have it for long.
-
Well, maybe other chrome ones are even heavier. We need to do some proper testing 🙂
-
The chrome one is from my 2017 Euro 77, the gold one I got from Bass Direct in 2020 to replace the chrome one as gold hardware matched the walnut look better, in my opinion at least.

BTW, NBE in CZ also made the Grendel for MTD.
-
This shop in Germany has one in stock. EUR 1690 - £1412. It says "showroom model with slight traces of use". Well, it must have spent a very long time in that showroom as MTD stopped making the Grendel a long time ago. More than 20 years ago, in 2002, I think. Not sure you could still call that "New Old Stock", maybe more "Vintage New Old Stock" 😉 https://www.station-musicshop.de/epages/64398533.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/64398533/Products/3253

Speaking of Peavey, the new Peavey Cirrus will also be made by NBE.
-
So pretty much every bass on this planet then 😉
-
But the Euros are made by NBE in the Czech Republic, in this place in Hořovice to be precise:
-
I just checked my emails and yes, I also dealt with him. Super helpful guy!

Back to the topic of this thread - Spector advice, combined with our chat about cool Spector basses sold only in Japan. Avoid the resellers on Ebay or Reverb. Go to digimart.net. Search there for the bass you are interested in and then go directly to the store that is selling it. Much cheaper than going via the resellers. I got my Ras Layer via Ishibashi and it went all smoothly. Other good shops/chains: Ikebe and Kurosawa. There will be many more but these are the ones I have interacted with.
-
Yes, it has a serious fault- it can cause people who play it to spontaneously combust. Dozens of people spontaneously combust each year. It's just not really widely reported. 😉
-
I once also owned this beauty. Again, Japan only run (signature bass for Layer, bassist in the Japanses band RAS (Raise a Suilen)). Only sold it because of the chunky neck.
-
Why is Japan always getting these cool special runs? Look at this beauty. That's how the CST is supposed to look like (just compare that with the amateurish bursts and washed out burls that we get to buy here, see page 3 in this thread for some examples in case you missed them):

This one looks nice too. Unfortunately, the neck profile probably won't work for me (too chunky) 😔 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/187088472745?itmmeta=01JQJ0013SX5Y4V1GDAFZVYVBX&hash=item2b8f578aa9:g:gI0AAeSwVPdn5e5S

Sorry, Paul, could not resist 😉
