  1. Well, they are still active, so they have definitely survived 😁
  2. Instead of your "recall" strategy, I think it would be easier to go for a "recognition" approach and show the general public, when stopped in the street, photos of bands and ask them to identify the bass player in each. They would then go for the one they have never seen before, the one that somehow does not seem to fit in (e.g., stands in the corner, looks bored, not as flamboyant as the lead singer or lead guitarist etc). Should work well! However, it probably won't work if you show them photos of bands with a keyboard player as these would then be the odd ones out as shown in the exhibit below 😉
  3. Today, I came across this nice long interview with Stuart and PJ. Great to see them again. They talk about their new line of acoustic guitars and basses (Esopus), but also about the history of the Spector brand, share some anecdotes (incl. skull shaped inlays made out of the bones of Tibetan monks!) and show some cool basses (including the March 77 prototype of the NS-1, the 75 SB-1 that preceded the NS-1 and the first NS 5 string (look at the pickups!). Cool stuff 👍 https://www.fugu.com/Pages/Players/VideoPlayerFull?enc=kGmw4xfyQX4VbI%2fOEJzlA%2flA1nLJbSTYiIQgXDtnwaE%3d
  4. LP should have recruited this bloke instead 🙂
  5. Great bass, great seller, so can someone please, please buy it before I have to convince my wife that we won't need a new vanity unit for our ensuite refurb? 😉
  6. Cool interview with one of my heroes. Check out Jerry's answer to "how many guitars do you own, Jerry?" (44:09). Priceless 😁
  7. A red Kramer era NS-2 in great condition 😍 Such a shame that I don't have the 💰 😞 GLWTS 👍
  8. Well, having three beers at once, do you think you are still following your mother's "drink in moderation" advice? 😉
  9. Sorry, off topic, but both posts really made me think of this song: Court is in session, a verdict is in No appeal on the docket today just my own sin The walls cold and pale, the cage made of steel Screams fill the room, alone I drop and kneel ...... Should have been dead on a Sunday morning, banging my head No time for mourning Ain't got no time
  10. The man, the myth, the legend 😁
  11. Yes, cool video and Ian is an Empire guy, but I would have preferred a track from Operation Mindcrime. Fortunately, there is this cool headless guy on YT 😁 who delivers a fab cover of one of my fav Queensryche songs, which is perfect for Valentine's Day. BTW, great Kramer era black NS-2 that would go so well with my white Mike Starr bass *wink* *wink* 😜
  12. If in doubt, ask yourself - "What would Spinal Tap do?" 😉
  13. Listened to this song and decided to keep my Stingray 🤩
  14. Ian likes the Antigua finish. He has a 78 Fender and Olinto made him one in Goldtigua. Not my cup of tea, to be honest. I used to have Spectors with fancy tops, solid highly figured maple wings, natural, walnut etc. However, my actual favs are the solid colours: black and white! Probably because of Eddie Jackson and Mike Starr.
  15. Charvel launched his signature bass in September 2022, so, I guess, it will be 2 years before he switches again, probably to Warwick next 😉 https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2022/09/30/charvel-custom-shop-introduces-frank-bello-signature-bass/
  16. Let's see what they'll come up with. Looking forward to it! From BassMagazine: https://bassmagazine.com/spector-welcomes-frank-bello-of-anthrax-to-their-family-of-artists/ "Spector® welcomes Anthrax bass legend, Frank Bello to its artist roster. Anthrax is one of the most influential thrash metal bands of all time and Bello’s brutal bass riffs have been the driving force behind that success for forty years. Spector is currently developing the Frank Bello signature bass and it will be released in 2025. In the meantime, Frank will be exclusively playing Spector basses for rehearsals, recording, and on the upcoming European tour this November during Anthrax’s co-headlining tour with German thrash titans Kreator with Bay Area thrashers, Testament. “I am so psyched to join the Spector family- a place that already feels like home for me! The great people at Spector listened and contributed to every last detail that I was looking for in a bass- and I am truly so excited for everybody to see what we’ve come up with. It was great to have the opportunity to bring some Spector basses on tour to give them a test run, and I can honestly say- they checked all the boxes, and then some… Good times ahead, my friends- Let’s do this!! “Stated Bello. As Taylor McLam, Spector’s Artist Relations says, “We are honored to welcome Frank Bello into the Spector family. Having a NYC thrash metal legend like Frank playing a legendary NYC brand like Spector is truly a match made in heaven—or should I say, hell?” There will be much, much more coming from this monster metal alliance. Spector continues to be the bass that touring musicians love to play. Check out www.spectorbass.com for up-to-the-minute updates on this and all things Spector."
  17. Oh no, I know where this is going. Now everyone will try to locate your former bass. Someone will eventually find it in some obscure part of the world. With the help of several other Basschatters you will be re-united with your 97 Jazz. You will be be super happy with it until..., well...., you sell it again after a few months 🙂
  18. The Professional I was launched in 2017, the Pro II followed in 2020. So, it is indeed time for the Pro III. Over at TB, when they launched the Player Plus in 2021, I already wrote: "Looks like Fender's marketing people really love the letter "P": Professional I, Professional II, Performer, Player and now Player Plus. What next? Power, Progress, Proficiency, Prestige, Privilege, Popular, Phenomenon, Pure, Paradigm, Preference, Paramount, Pleasure, Premiere, Pinnacle, Premium, Prowess, Purity, or Peak?" 🙂
  19. I am selling this nice flight case that I bought to store one of my Spector basses a few years ago. The case is in great condition (home storage use only!). Here is the link to what the same one costs nowadays (£135): https://www.thomann.co.uk/harley_benton_flight_case_wood_bass.htm From the website: For electric bass Material: Plywood, covered Edges: Aluminium Rounded chrome corners Nickel-plated steel spring handle with transparent PVC cover Five butterfly latches Padded inside cover with convoluted foam Foam inserts with double-sided tape to accurately adjust the instrument Inside dimensions (L x W x H): 1185 x 360 x 75 mm External dimensions: 125 x 45 x 15 cm Weight: 9.8 kg Made in Germany Collection would be recommended but I can also ship it (UK mainland only, sorry!) using a decent courier. Shipping would of course add some costs (approx. £20/30). If you come and collect (and spare me the hassles of shipping :- ), then I'll throw in a nice Hercules GS414BPLUS Guitar Stand for free. Only used it a home, so it it is in mint condition. As I sold most of my basses, I just have too many guitar stand that I do not need anymore. A new one costs £42.90 from the retailer I got mine from: https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Hercules-GS414BPLUS-Guitar-Stand/2GY0
  20. Looks like another bass that BB was selling for me has sold, so I hope that I do no need to sell the SR any longer. However, a Spector Euro Ian Hill always tempted me, so that's what is on offer now - SR for IH trade.
  21. I just need to generate some funds for the second stage of our house renovation project. Everything is sooo expensive and I don't have the skills to do any of the jobs myself 😞 Will still keep (or try my very best to keep) my beloved Spector Mike Starr. I am sure that at a later stage, I will get another Stingray. This has been my 8th and it will definitely be a 2EQ again. There is something special about them (and I've tried 2EQ, 3EQ (both pre-2018 SR and post 2018 Special), passive (Timmy C) and Darkglass preamp (Darkray).
  22. Thanks, Dave. Much apprenticed. Your cheque is in the mail 😉
  23. I am happy to trade this lovely 2010 Ernie Ball Music Man 4H 2EQ bass in candy red. I bought it from BassBros earlier this year. I cleaned it thoroughly and touched up the little dings on the upper horn and near the bridge. See photos below. The bass is in great condition – comfortable neck, good balance, no fret buzz, and the tuners and knobs are sturdy and move smoothly. Everything feels like great quality. The bass weighs 4.4 kg and comes with the original EBMM gig bag. As mentioned in the title, the only bass that I am interested in is the Spector Euro Ian Hill Signature model, the PJ version, not the recent 50th anniversary model.
