Quick update. Played the GK today for an hour. No issues. Recorded two quick samples with the contour button engaged and disengaged. I also attach the EQ settings. Still keep the low price as I cannot promise that the problems I had during the heatwave may not come back (during the next heatwave, for example). So, maybe only play it on cold days to be on the safe side? 😉 V_20240427_153859_ES3.mp4 V_20240427_153756_ES3.mp4

I am selling the GK MB112-II 200-watt power amp with ceramic 12" speaker. I bought it in spring 2018 and only used it for home practice. As you can see from the photos, the chassis is in very good condition. However, during the heatwave of 2022, I noticed some crackling noises, a bit like old vinyl records, difficult to describe. I decided not to get it checked over, but bought a bigger amp, the 500w Eich BC112 Pro, instead (as bigger is always better ; -). Since then, the GK was in our loft as a backup, but after our recent renovation project, we need the space and I have to sell it. I tried it out today and it sounded ok, maybe a very slight distortion-ish sound when playing lower notes. Maybe it is a small issue, maybe not, that's why I think that my asking price is fair as you can use the combo for home practice all day long. The last one sold here on BC went for £300, new they cost £649 (https://www.andertons.co.uk/gallien-krueger/gallien-krueger-mb-112-bass-combo-303-0591-b) and there is a used one on Reverb for £599(!). Collection only, although I will have to travel to Leeds in late May to buy more tiles for the next stage of our house renovation project (and probably have to sell some more stuff for that too ; -) Product Specs: MB112-II Combo The MB112-II is one of the smaller amps in Gallien-Krueger's MB Series II range, but it still packs a serious punch! With a 200-watt power amp and ceramic 12" speaker, the MB112-II is a killer companion for the gigging musician used to performing in small/medium-sized venues. It's great for practice too, with its auxiliary input and headphone output letting you jam along to your favourite tracks in silence. Key Features - 4-Band Active EQ — Derives from GK's legendary 800RB amp. Provides extensive tone-shaping potential so that you can find the sonic sweet-spot, especially with the 'Hi Mid' and 'Lo Mid' knobs. - Contour Control — Completely re-voices the amplifier by tuning between two different shaping circuits, with greatly different responses. When the the control is engaged, the low-end is slightly boosted, the mids are scooped, and the high-end is pushed up; great for slap! - Variable Q — Another feature inherited from the 800RB. This unique design varies the EQ bandwidth to retain a musical response even at extreme settings. In other words, it's hard to make the MB112-II sound bad! - USA-Designed Speaker — The special ceramic driver with 2.5" edge wound aluminium voice coil, designed just for this cabinet, is manufactured in the GK USA factory. - Lightweight Design — Plywood construction, aluminium chassis, switch mode power supply and power amp deliver 200W performance in a rugged 30lb (13.6kg) package. - Contemporary Connectivity — Balanced DI with pre/post switch, aux in and headphone output for silent practice, plus "chain out" to drive GK's MBP powered enclosures (pair with the 112 MBP). - Switch Mode Power — Extremely lightweight switch mode power supply and power amp deliver 200W into the speaker with very little wasted heat dissipation. - Critically Damped — The amp's port is specifically tuned for optimum performance, coupled with a particular jute blend of damping material that provides the right amount of damping at certain frequencies. - Smart Protection Circuitry — Constantly monitors for unsafe operating conditions such as short circuits, mis-wired speaker cables, blown speakers, improper ventilation, and incorrect speaker configurations. I am selling my Darkglass Alpha Omicron pedal. Bought it here on BC last summer and I am only asking for what I paid for). I only used it occasionally at home and it is in very good condition. The pedal is currently stored safely in a box (not the original DG box) in a pet and smoke free house. UK shipping only (sorry!) and shipping costs are included. From the Darkglass website (https://www.darkglass.com/creation/alpha-omicron/) The beginning and the end. With the double distortion engine (Alpha and Omega), the Alpha·Omicron delivers unparalleled versatility, harmonic rich and bone-crushing sound. Designed for bassists in need of a preamplifier to be distinctively heard in any musical context. Specs Blend Mixes the clean and processed signals. The clean signal remains at unity gain while the volume of the overdriven signal is set by the Level knob, allowing for fine mix tuning. Level Sets the volume of the overdriven signal. Drive Sets the amount of gain in the overdriven signal. Mod Selects or mixes between the two distinct distortion circuits: Alpha is punchy, tight with a lot of definition, whereas Omega is simply brutal and raw. Bite Boosts High Mids (2.8kHz) for additional presence and definition. Growl Shelving Bass Boost for a fatter tone and increased low end saturation. Output Connect from the ¼” Output jack to the input of your amplifier or another effects pedal. Input Connect your instrument or output from your pedal board to the ¼” mono jack. 9V DC Only use a regulated 9V DC adapter with a center-negative plug. Dimensions Width: 75 mm / 3″ Length: 111 mm/ 4¼″ Height: 43 mm / 1¾″ Weight: 250 g / 0.55 lb Warning The Alpha·Omicron has a current draw of 20mA. Only use a regulated 9V DC adapter with a center-negative plug. Unregulated power supplies and/or higher voltages may result in suboptimal noise performance and even damage your unit, voiding the warranty

The 35P4 is a reverse P, so it should sound very close to the P pickup on the NS-2. The preamp is a Haz 18V instead of the 9V on the NS-2. Not sure how much different the two preamps sound, to be honest. I do not have a NS-2 to compare it with, but I am pretty confident they will be in the same ballpark.

I am selling this beautiful late 2006 Spector NS-4 with stunning looking solid quilted maple body wings, powerful active EMG pickups, the US Haz 18V preamp and gorgeous abalone crowns. I bought it in summer last year as my DOB (date of birth) bass. However, due to some higher than expected house renovation bills, I have to already sell it, which is a real shame. The bass is in showroom condition as the previous owner, who bought it from Sound Control in Glasgow, kept it in storage for all those years (he joined a band as their drummer instead). New, a US Spector NS-4 with the exact same specs costs $6,249.99 (according to a Spector bass configurator on a US retailer website). There are also two used NS-4s on Reverb for £4089 (no solid wings, only maple top) and £3699, so I think I am asking for a very fair price. During its short time with me, the bass has never left the house (very limited home use only). The bass is also not too heavy (for a bass with solid maple wings), weighing 9.5lb/4.3kg. I put EMG 35P4 and 35J pickups on the bass, but the original DCs will come with the bass of course. Finally, both the battery box as well as the cavity cover are recessed, which gives it a nice look. The bass is currently stored safely in its original case in a pet and smoke free house. Collection would be recommended but I can also ship it (UK only, sorry!) using a decent courier. Shipping would of course add some costs. I am selling my Tech 21 XXL bass pedal. I bought it last summer on Ebay and only used it a few times at home. The pedal is in good condition and currently stored safely in its original box in a pet and smoke free house. Shipping costs are included (UK only, sorry!) using a decent courier. About the pedal (from the Tech 21 NYC website - https://www.tech21nyc.com/archive/xxl-bass/ ) “Obese, megalithic, dynamic distortion is what it’s all about. The XXL’s Warp™ control manipulates the structure and balance of odd and even harmonics and influences their relativity to the dynamics of your instrument and your playing style. Translation: you can achieve a variety of results, even within the same setting, depending on the manner and force of your pick attack. Originally in production from 1995-2000, some guitar players considered the XXL a little too over-the-top(!). Oddly enough, certain bass players seemed to like it just fine. So we decided to split the atom and try to make both camps happy. The Bass Edition features a level-compensated Tone control. At maximum it’s flat. As you go towards the mid point, it boosts the low end, compensating for the drop-out typically associated with effects not specifically voiced for bass. Decreasing from the mid point cuts highs, without changing the output level. The Bass Edition is an excellent companion to the SansAmp Bass Driver DI, especially for those times when considerably more distortion is desired.” According to Tech 21’s founder, Andrew Barta, Jason Newsted used the XXL pedal in Metallica and when Robert Trujillo joined the band, they made him buy the pedal too (see here, from 07:45 )

I am selling my mint Origin Effects BASSRIG Super Vintage pedal. I bought it here on BC in February and only used it a few times at home. It is in pristine condition. It is currently stored safely in its original box in a pet and smoke free house. The price is firm as I am only asking for what I paid for it. Shipping costs are included (UK only, sorry!) using a decent courier. About the pedal (from the Origin Effects website - https://origineffects.com/product/bassrig-super-vintage): The BASSRIG Super Vintage is, quite simply, a complete vintage bass amp in a pedal. Based on the iconic Ampeg® SVT®, we have used all-analogue circuitry to recreate a complete valve amp-style signal path, along with an all-analogue cabinet simulator, giving you all the warmth, feel and drive of this classic bass rig in one small box. When the SVT® arrived on the scene in 1969, it rewrote the rulebook for purpose-built bass amplification. Thanks to its enormous power, deep bass, growling overdrive and purposeful control set, this tower of tone has remained the amp of choice for the most discerning bassists on the world’s biggest stages. With XLR and ¼” outputs, the BASSRIG Super Vintage will fit seamlessly into any signal chain, no matter how simple or complex, and our powerful Amp Out EQ tailors your sound to work with any amp, meaning you never have to compromise on tone. FEATURES LIST: · Complete valve amp-style signal path with dedicated class-A preamp and push-pull output stage, based on the Ampeg® SVT · Balanced DI output with analogue cabinet simulator based on the Ampeg® SVT® 8×10 cabinet · Reactive design simulates interaction between amp and speaker for realistic feel and authentic sound · Full range of SVT® tones from clean to overdriven · Powerful tone-shaping Amp Out EQ · Blend control lets you mix your drive sound in parallel with your clean signal · Tour-grade, all-metal construction · High-impedance, buffered bypass with silent switching · Designed and built in England THE DETAILS: The BASSRIG Super Vintage uses the same ground-breaking circuitry found in our other Analogue Amp Recreation pedals, replicating the entire signal path of the SVT® and delivering all the tone shaping, drive and character of this historic amp with stunning realism. In addition to all the familiar controls from the world’s favourite bass amp, we’ve added a BLEND knob, which mixes in some of your clean signal in parallel with the pedal’s emulated amp circuit. This control can add some subtle, low-end clarity or be used to create massive bi-amp-style overdrive tones. The balanced DI output on the BASSRIG Super Vintage is equipped with an all-analogue simulation of Ampeg®’s famous 8×10 speaker cabinet – essential to the SVT® sound. You can select whether the cabinet simulator is always active or only on when the pedal is engaged, meaning you can use the BASSRIG to add cabinet simulation to other pedals or keep an unaffected DI signal when the pedal is in bypass. Our proprietary Amp Out EQ lets you tailor the BASSRIG’s ¼” Amp Out, so you never have to compromise your amp settings to flatter the pedal or vice versa. With LF and HF trimmers, as well as a HORN CUT switch, this post-drive filter can fatten up small combos, tame boominess in big cabs prevent harshness with tweeter-equipped rigs. This allows you to match your on-stage sound to your DI signal, balance your clean and overdriven tones or compensate for ever-changing backline amps. Housed in a hand polished, brushed stainless steel enclosure and furnished with aluminium controls, Neutrik® jack sockets and heavy-duty footswitch, the BASSRIG Super Vintage is equally at home on the road and in the studio.

Yes, I saw these. I mean, they look interesting and very artistic, but you really must be a die-hard graffiti fanboy or girl to cough up $8k for one of them.
-
C'mon guys, can someone please buy this bass asap? I am still looking at it and I really, really shouldn't. It is a gorgeous looking US Spector, with some cool upgrades, played by the great Steven Wilson and the price is super fair too. Same as a new Ethos HP and "less" than a new Dimension HP, both made in Korea! What's not to like?

Graham recently bought my EBMM Sub. Super smooth transaction with nice comm and super speedy payment. Thumbs up 👍

Same here, huge fan since 96. Interesting to see that his tech is changing his strings even during a gig. Maybe I should change my strings a bit more often too 😉 -

The NS-4 has the EMG 35P4 in the neck and the DC in the bridge position. Great combo. The neck is fine. Not too thin, not too chunky. The Mike Starr neck is nice too, maybe it is modelled on Mike's NS-2, which is probably a Kramer era model. I don't know as I have never owned a Kramer era Spector. Maybe someone should sell me one, yes, @cetera I am looking at you 😉 Interestingly, I played both the Mike Starr Euro and a 40th anniversary Euro side by side at a London Bass Guitar Show. Huge neck shape differences. The 40th anniversary one had a pretty chunky neck and most Euros I've since come across have rather chunky necks but not all. There is some heterogeneity/variability. However, for me who prefers the thin neck specs (with the normal 1.64'' nut width, not the DW 1.5''), it is safer to either get a Kramer era Spector or the Ian Hill that also has a thin neck.
-
The Mike Starr signature bass is my only "not for sale" bass. I am a huge AIC fan and this one has the US HAZ 9V preamp. Sounds killer. The NS-4 is my birthday bass (although I was not born in 06, wish I were ; -) Interestingly, on Nov 11 2006 I actually started my bass journey by buying a NOS Warwick Corvette in Soundcontrol Manchester (actually it is Salford, which is in Greater Manchester). Spookily, the NS-4, as I found out when I changed the pickup), also went to Soundcontrol (one of 4 in natural that went to the UK, according to PJ Rubal) but the Glasgow store where the guy who sold it to me bought it in 2007.
-
So, I am finally down to two basses. Both Spectors, of course 😉 As all good things come in threes, does anyone have an Ian Hill (the PJ version) they want to part with?
