I am sure Thomann will thoroughly evaluate pros and cons of having a "real" Thomann UK branch. They already say: "Please be assured that with more than 20 years of close cooperation with our UK customers, it is our priority to find new solutions that would allow us to provide door-to-door online prices as soon as possible."

The title is misleading. I expected to see him 😉

New EBMM Stingray Special Colours and Prices
Eldon Tyrell replied to Eldon Tyrell's topic in Bass Guitars
Yes, the Andertons website is a bit annoying. For example, it shows 22 Spector basses but when you click on them, you realise that they only have 5 in stock. Back to EBMM: For us to compare oranges with oranges (instead of apples), the new Stingray Special in black costs £2,749. I bought the same (yes, mine had an ebony FB instead of maple but that should not make much of a price difference, right?) for £2,099 in October 2019 from BD. So, the new price is a whopping £650 higher. -

Good point. I have dropped Thomann an email, asking for their new Stingray Special prices. Let's see. -
Interesting article: "In an extraordinary twist to the Brexit saga, UK small businesses are being told by advisers working for the Department for International Trade (DIT) that the best way to circumvent border issues and VAT problems that have been piling up since 1 January is to register new firms within the EU single market, from where they can distribute their goods far more freely." I guess Thomann could do the same and set up Thomann UK. Set up shop in Europe, government advisers tell Brexit-hit businesses | Brexit | The Guardian

Basswood is perfectly fine. I think people confuse it with ply wood and think it is not "real" wood. Bass builders should relabel it to "linden wood" and I am sure people would suddenly love it and maybe even show it off: "look, mine is mad of linden, not ash/alder/maple/walnut/mahogany etc" 😎

For me it is the NS-2 but that's, admittedly, mostly based on looks (and Alice in Chains) as my headphones don't really allow me to hear huge differences.
-
Cool Spector bass shootout featuring the NS-2, Euro 4LX, Ethos 4, Euro Classic 5 and the Dimension 5. Great back-to-back comparison of 5 riffs for different playing styles (finger, thumb, pick (one riff for flat picking style, palm muted and one riff with distortion), and tapping) and different pickup positions (both pickups, bridge, and neck). My fav is the NS-2. Killer looks and sound (and he plays AIC's "Would" at 02:30 ;- )

@cetera, in case you already want to see and hear your new bass, here you are (from 09:44) 😎

Just looked at the Spector 2021 Price List Catalog. There is indeed no Spectarcore but the Performer is still there in the following finishes: solid black, gloss metallic blue gloss, metallic red gloss, and solid white gloss.

Pearl Jam shuts down tribute act Pearl Jamm

Clearwater Creedence Revival - That's a good one. I guess the band members are from Clearwater, FL? -
Good decision. I always say: only sell a Spector to finance another one. Further, prices for Spector basses will only go up, so your bass will become more valuable too (and solid maple ones are sought after anyway). Another reason to keep it 🙂

The Cetera tone maybe? 😉
-
Agree, the Nolly tone was cool for some time but now it is getting a bit annoying (just too many having that tone). Maybe it is indeed time for the Spector Dimension and the Kev tone 😉

New EBMM Stingray Special Colours and Prices

...plus handling fees. The last two basses I ordered from Thomann had to go back due to issues, so that would be a bit of an issue with then having to reclaim VAT. Not cool. -

Oh no, don't tell me that, just checked their website and thought I was about to bag a fantastic bargain 😁 -
New EBMM Stingray Special Colours and Prices
Eldon Tyrell replied to Eldon Tyrell's topic in Bass Guitars
The main issue is that the price increase in the US is small (and nothing usual, typical yearly increase) and huge here. As mentioned, will be interesting to see how the new prices will look like in other markets. -

In fairness to Andertons, another retailer also quoted me £2,899 for the new 4HH Raspberry Burst, so it is not only Andertons. I am sure there are Covid related supply issues, however, how come they keep the price increase in the US pretty low ($100-200) and increase it here by £750-1000? -

I guess we will pretty much know when we see if the price increase in other big markets (e.g., Germany and France) will be like the one in the US ($100-200) or like here (£750-1000 up). -

Agree on most points. However, do you think it is S&T's decision or EBMM's? -
Yes, looks like Spector and Dingwall will go head-to-head indeed. Cool. Will be interesting to see how many people, current Spector bass owners or not, will go for the new Dimension instead of the already established Combustion or NG. BTW, I still think they should have used a different name instead of Dimension. It always makes me think of this one. Sorry, I just cannot "unthink" it 😉 And you won't now either 😁
-
Disclaimer: Sorry if this has been discussed earlier but I cannot check all 21 pages of the thread😉 Seeing custom duties getting mentioned here: I thought we do not have to pay custom duties when ordering from Thomann. Is this not the case? Only VAT and handing charge, no?

New EBMM Stingray Special Colours and Prices
Eldon Tyrell replied to Eldon Tyrell's topic in Bass Guitars
Cheers. Makes business sense, at least at a first glance: big demand coupled with limited supply = price increase. Economics 101. However, this is based on the assumption that there is a big demand and I am not sure that this is realistic (BTW, having unrealistic assumptions is typical for economics, at least for classical economics ;- ). I think the price hike is just way too much and there are just too many great alternatives on the market. EBMM does not have a monopoly. So, apart from the die-hard EBMM fanboys and girls, many others will just walk away with their money and hand it over to someone else. Well, we'll see.
