  1. Nice, I love the reversed drums on Ghost. Infact, i love the track Mixes sound great, my only thing is (and this may be myspace) is they are a little muddy in the low mid area but this is a mastering issue. I like the panning and the songs Maybe go back into the mix and just cut the distorted guitars at 15-250hz and the same with the bass. Good work though G

  4. I wouldnt say that that we have our share
  5. There is an awesome article in this months sound on sound about the recording of that album. Interesting read to say the least G
  6. If its something specific you are after i culd easily programme it Or, get garage band (for mac) and get wired into the apple loops. They are great for what they are. G
  7. Sure do In the region of 100 gigs a year and a I make a pretty nice living out of it too. Garry
  8. Nice man.
  9. The drum kit was recorded on 6 mics: -D112 outside the kick (i hate clicky kicks) -SM 57 Tom and bottom of the snare. -A pair of AKG 414 overheads behind the drummer to stop getting too much kick and picking up the toms. -A Neumann tlm170 (i think) in the room. For those not geeky enough to know what that lot is here is a picture of the room. The micright infront of the kit didnt work so want used. I used the screening to make sure the overheads kept a tighter stereo image of the kit rather than lots of the room and not much definitions (especially as i couldn't use tom mics). 10. Hey Steve, Tube mic yes. Believe it or not, a second guitar comes in when the drums kick in so its the opposite. Recorded the drums in a lovely old hall type room which made them a little larger than life, which was what i was after; real airy, powerful drum sound that wasn't compressed. Too much ambience from the room mic made everything a little undefined sonically. Infact, there are 2 guitar tracks that come in with the drums as the little counter picked part kicks in too. Unnatural reverb's stand out when you use too much of them hence the nakedness of Tiny Bird. Incidently, the "natural acoustic production values" where my kitchen If you listen carefully you can hear running water in the pipes and my freezer. I like that stuff, makes everything a little more human. cheers for the feedback G
  11. Sounds like he is giving it his all. And, he is gigging..... Sometimes playing with all you have when you dont have much is more admirable than sitting in a bedroom with all you chops. G
  12. Cheers man G
  13. Go see him live. I saw him with bella fleck. He is a monster groover and has superb technique. I was stunned at how 'musical' his playing was and how much of a team player he is on stage. Inspirational doesnt cut it. G
  14. Hey Guys, Just finished a 6 track EP for a friend of mine, Kirstyn Knowles (www.myspace.com/kjkband), who I play bass for. She wrote all the tracks herself (except the one with the harp which was kindly donated for the project by a friend). Its a really nice varied ep IMO and i am prett proud of it. Anyway, here are three tracks for your listening pleasure. Any feedback on the songs, bass playing, recording or production welcomed. 15. So, anyway, back to nedsbeds cabs... They look great (as does that monster 15 you have there finn) G
  16. My geddy doesn't
  17. Yeah man But these are subjective comments. Do as your ears tell you. I spent years trying to please others.... G
  18. Sounds silly, but i would be inclined to get a contact mic inside there and a little knob to blend that sound with the bass' electronics. Really make a feature of it. G
  19. Your not pushing it enough jon G
  20. Good effort guys. You sound nice and tight. Not sure if its the myspace thing thats killed the mixes but it sounds to me like there is little going on over 5k.... sounds like the top end has been totally filtered away. May just be the myspace nastyness.... But its worse on happy than the others. Still, you guys sound solid and i am a fussy, nit picking studio engineer myself... G
  21. My God
  22. sounds good man. i think the vocals and sax are a little exposed. And, dare i say it the bass is a tad to high. I tend to mix things in groups. For example, the kick/snare and bass should be roughly the same. But for a first mix it sounds good. Good work
