2.
Haha, I hate these foreign scam artists, I'll tell you how the scam will probbably go. Once you agree to play the function, and you quote them a price, lets say £1000 for the evening. They will send you a cheque, a fake one, for the amount of say £4000 before you even play the gig. They will ask you to cash it into your account and for you to foward on to them, the £3000 remaining after you've taken your grand. They will ask you to do this out of "trust". The cheque is fake, when the bank realise this, they take back the money that went into your account, so you're £4000 out of pocket, and the scammer has his £3000 that you foward to him.
the difference in sums here is for you to pass on to their local agent to arrange your transportation, accommodation and other hassles... they always want the difference wiring on immediately by Western Union or similar... I had similar ones when I was selling one of my dingies... the purchaser wanted to purchase it sight unseen and have it shipped out via his agent... with me wiring the difference to his local agent... I regularly get job offerings tempting me to be their local agent as well... the agent gets a small commission for every wire he collects for them and forwards on... It's usually the work from home jobs where they want to make use of your bank account and phone
 3. so where's the proof that is a genuine 1978 thumb rest??? is there some magic number on the pressing like there are on those old PAF pickups? what provenance is he providing?
 4. looks like he ran out of wood and glued a different bit on the bottom... anyway... them's Jazz holes if I'm not mistaken... I think I've seen one or two basses by now and feel qualified to pontificate on the subject...
 5. I currently have 6: 3 decent, and 3 cheapo ones... I can't get rid of the cheapo ones, no shop will accept them in trade... I've been having great fun modding the cheapo ones and generally messing around learning to set them up... my current project this summer will be to defret one of the Encore P-bass clones... and the other P-bass clone is going to be converted into a clock... current decent basses in order of decency: Squier VMJ Vintage V950B 5 string Peavey Millenium BXP I have a 7th bass coming on Sunday which will leapfrog to the top of the decent list... a Tanglewood Warrior IV in ash.
 6. aren't all Fenders retro looking??? ducks for cover...
http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TLRMT..._source=froogle one of these is useful, you just plug it in and if you get 3 lights away you go, also take you own RCD plug, Total outlay about £20 ,got to be worth it.
+ 1000... if you don't get the three lights, then give the venue an ultimatum... fix it or else you're not playing and you want your fee... never take any excuses with electrics... it's your life and your band's at risk... and the venue have a duty of care... (oh, and if you think they may get hinky about your fee, take photos of the test in progress and get the manager in shot with the test showing a fail, then he can't claim you faked up the test photos later...)
 8. recommended listening? anything with Tommy Shannon or "Duck" Dunn playing...
 9.
Before messing with the nut I'd check the relief of the neck. Could be that the new strings are lower tension and you'll need to slacken off the truss rod.
+ the 1...
 10.
I can't decide on my VMJ at the moment, currently I'm not enjoying playing it, but I think that's down to the Roto flats I've got on it, I'm not a big fan of the fact it's like trying to push down a suspension cable using my fretting hand, it's causing pain.
it's the roto flats... I had them on mine and hated them... I've got LaBella black nylon tapewounds on now... far easier to play... I like the black strings, so I plan to replace the bridge and tuners with black upgrades... and I'm on the hunt for a black chrome control plate... I've currently got a control plate and pots out of a Fender Geddy Lee in there... quite fancy the Wizard 84's as I'm heavily into playing Blues...
 11.
Hi, I have for sale a Behringer BLE100 Bass limiter enhancer pedal similar to boss LMB3.This was given to me and I have no need for it , no box or instructions, but they can be downloaded from Behringer web site.
you can download boxes now over t'internet???
 12. I have to do almost six new ones each week... very few repeats.. and most of them I've never ever heard before or can find mp3 files for... so the first time I've ever done them is the run through before the service... Church bass can be very hard... anyway... it appears you had a great time... and the photographer must have caught you while you were in between looking at your right hand and your left... that;s always the case with me... at least I can hide behind a music stand...
 13. very pretty... however, the flamed maple top isn't very smooth... just look at all the ripples in the reflections...
 14. I do it... again, not deliberately, just find myself using three fingers when playing triplets... but that's on the 4 stringers... on the 5 stringers, the other finger is too busy helping mute
 15.
It's ridiculous, we are signed to a major label, and the money they spend is stupid. They still send bands first class, book flights at the last minute instead of booking in advance and saving money. With a little extra care they could save themselves alot of money.
they do that because they can charge it to the Band's tab... it all comes back off the advance... basically, it's not their money they're spending...
 16.
Bought my daughter a crappy Bontempi pink classical (£25 off ebay ), just to get her used to having a guitar around (shes only 16 months...). Just wondered how anyone elses experiences were of teaching their kids. I'm going to see if I can get her interested in the next couple of years. Must add that I'll try every year or so once she's a bit older, but she will NOT be pushed into anything she doesn't want to do (she's a firey little bugger anyway ). Wife is very keen on this (forced into Piano lessons when she was younger). Any advice what to start with? Nursery rhymes? Theme tune to Fifi?
got my grandkids Ukuleles... and a basic book for them with easy chords and strumming guides... Lauren is old enough at almost 5 and she starts doing Uke in school in September anyway..., but Luke had to have one (he's not quite 3) and at only £15, I'm not too worried about it getting trashed... who knows... he might be the next guitar god in 15 years or so... Jimi Hendrix started out on one...
 17. I'm convinced CC sit on the real bargains (like Fenders that are obviously valuable) and hide them away out of sight until the ticket expires and you can't redeem it... then they flog them off on ebay...
 18.
as a librarian i can only add this... remember to use correct citation when referencing online discussions :brow:
That's why I hate websites that live inside flash boxes... they're impossible to link into and they can change content on you and you have to go to the trouble of taking screenshots for archival purposes and proving they'd actually stated something...
 19. Either that's the original profile (bus roof), or else they've been ground down so he or a previous owner could get a low action without fret buzz... I mean, who plays up there anyway???
 20. Canned Heat - On The Road Again oh dear... it has three notes... monotonous pedalled open E and a G & A thrown in every now and again...

 22.
There could be hope for your old mixer yet! Mate of mine spilt beer all over his TV remote and it stopped working. I fixed it by opening it up, making sure it was all dry and then spraying the circuit board, both sides, with electrical contact cleaner spray to remove the sticky residue. Fixed and working in minutes. The Gadget Show (Ch5) have done tests with things like mobile phones etc, immersing them in water, drying them thoroughly and in every case they worked again. Hope this helps, Steve.
mobile phones.... rather than doing something to make them waterproof and survive accidental splashing and brief dunks... the manufacturers went out of their way to incorporate tamper proof indicators that change colour once they've been wet (they won't change back). So even if you have managed to dry it out and make it look like it's never been wet, if you try to make a warranty claim on it they'll just laugh in your face as the one big thing excluded in the warranty is damage from getting wet... I ended up having to get a new phone after mine died last year when trying to make an emergency call in the middle of that torrential rain... I didn't drop it in the water, it just got soaked while I was trying to make a call... never worked again after being dried out carefully using a shoe box and hairdryer... It wouldn't take much for them to conformally coat those circuit boards and make them truly waterproof... I lost a laptop as well a year ago when my daughter spilled cola on the keyboard... now that's nasty stuff
 23. I'm having great fun listening to this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/All-Shook-Up-Regga...8067&sr=8-1 "All Shook Up - A Reggae Tribute to the King"
enlighten me, the legend has not reached my door.
allegedly in the region between 5 and 9 Hz, there's a note, that when played loudly, will liquify the contents of the listeners large intestines... and result in an embarrassing incident... 25.
This is a feeler of sorts, I suppose. I'm pretty sure I'll sell it, and replace it with a Gotoh 201, but just thought I'd gauge interest. It's mint, and currently resides on my Jazz, needs a clean but I'll do that before I post it. Looking for £35-40 for it.
how can it still be "mint"??? unless you haven't notched the saddles for your strings...
