Rebel Rebel is on the Diamond Dogs album and it was Bowie's first album for some years that didn't feature any of 'The Spiders From Mars', i.e Mick Ronson (Guitar), Trevor Bolder (Bass) and Mick 'Woody' Woodmansy (Drums).. It was another of Bowie's 'concept albums' and the song '1984' gave a real clue as to where he was going musically with it's very heavily Disco and Soul influenced style that culminated in his Young Americans & Station to Station albums.
didn't Stevie Ray Vaughan play on Diamond Dogs?
I wouldn't care if it was bloody Lena Zavaroni Alan you enjoyed yourself and that's what it's about You don't know how envious I am that you are in a regular gigging band where you hone your skills and perform regularly. I went to Jam night last night and ended up stopping the 1st song in front of a packed Dickie Doodles because the guitarist was playing Red House in a different key (he didn't know what key!) and I missed the bleedin' intro. Then we discovered that I knew none of the songs he knew and reverted to a 12 bar bloody mixolydiam jam!
Ohhh... I hate that... I much prefer it if they know what the pattern is supposed to be for a blues and what key they intend it to be in... also helps if they tell me if it's supposed to be a quick IV and what the last four bars are supposed to do key wise... If they call it out properly, then I can do it... OK, it's an uptown up, in A with a quick IV and we take it from the V...

Irritating Intonation Issues
Of the mains powered variety. That you can see from afar without squinting. +1 to Korgs in this respect!
My Behringer TU100 is absolutely useless for tuning my B string with... it has enough trouble registering the E string and completely fails to show anything for the B... the only thing it's good for is as a mute and/or switch on my stompboard... the fact it also shows some tuning info is merely a mild bonus... I use my Zoom B2.1U for tuning with... it shows a solid 8 (plus the detected note) when in tune and moving circles when not in tune... If money were no object, then I'd consider getting a strobostomp and put it in the chain in front of the Zoom... Irritating Intonation Issues
Paul Cooke replied to WithoutRisk_BassPlayer's topic in Repairs and Technical
Intonation annoys me... I can't play the harmonics, so I intonate by tuning the open string and then seeing if the 12th fret note is sharp or flat... if sharp, the saddle is moved out a quarter of a turn; if flat, moved in by a quarter turn... retune the open note and try again... It helps a lot having a good chromatic tuner... -

I think the middle three are so he could do alternate tunings/string gauges, there's no apparent difference between any of the middle three...

I've always felt that I was fighting my Encore P-Bass clone rather than playing it... having a truss-rod nut made of what is basically monkey-metal doesn't help matters... The action and relief are too high and I can't adjust it as the truss-rod nut socket is so soft and I can't get any Allen key to sit securely in the socket... the only way I can get a sensible action is to use very light gauge strings... So basically don't buy an Encore... anyone want mine? any offers? NO, I won't pay you to take it away... I'm going to stick a Fender logo on it and relic it, then hang it up as a decoration... maybe even replace the pickups with a clock mechanism...
Going off topic a little here but can I ask what Linux distro you are running?
Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 on the main machine, Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 on the laptop with the Ubuntu Studio packages installed Both will be going to 8.04 when it's available and safe to install.
I have been using hot stepper for a few years and it's pretty good. Paul Cooke - Hydrogen is meant to be the business on Linux, I have heard nothing but good things about it.
I know Hydrogen is the business on Linux, it's also available now for windows and OSX... http://www.hydrogen-music.org/forum/?actio...id=8&page=1 there's a file I did earlier with some shuffle patterns in it and a song arrangement strung together with some of them... but it's nice to know Hammerhead runs on Linux if anyone ever sends you a .HH file or you find some ready made .HH files on the web...
-
Surprisingly, Hammerhead works fine on Linux using WINE to provide the windows runtimes...
Go for it mate, id never been to one before moving to cheltenham and now there are about five a week! I love just going along and jamming and ive made a bunch of great mates doing it too, and met a fellow basschatter too!
OK, where & when are the jam nights in Cheltenham? Gloucester appears dead, so I might as well try Cheltenham if I can find my way in past all the roadworks and one way streets... (I hate Cheltenham for driving in...)
point of pure interest, as I use cubase anyway, but can you use Audacity to multitrack? Hydrogen for drum sequencing http://www.hydrogen-music.org/ Ignore the "for GNU/Linux" bit, there's a windows version available in the downloads area Audacity or Reaper for recording http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ http://www.reaper.fm/download.php Audacity is free and open source, Reaper is shareware, but completely functional and doesn't time out, the authors rely on customers being honest and registering it although I have seen "cracks" out there for it... why on earth, I'll never know...

Update: Clanging Frets (still not fixed)
Paul Cooke replied to Rich44's topic in Repairs and Technical
a. Roll fingers across top of the string rather than plucking like a bow (have been told this is best?) Also I try to use the bridge pickup area as Ive heard this stops the string from vibrating from side to side too much. b. As close to the fret below but not touching it c. Theres no difference plugged or unplugged really, but its more of a percussive thing than a electronic thing though. It really is a "metal-on-metal" noise. Its more of a left hand thing, just gently fretting a note (not even with plucking) gives a noise as loud as an open string.
is the noise in the amplified sound coming out of the speakers, or purely in the acoustic sound that comes to your ears directly from the neck region... I used to get really annoyed by "clanking" noises when fretting and releasing... as these noises didn't come out of the PA for the audience to hear or appear on recordings I take off the soundboard, I don't care any more... do us a favour, record a short sample of you playing what you normally play and attach it in this thread... -
that "original untouched solder" can mean that the cloth insulation has been pulled back and the wires cut and soldered there... it is no guarantee that the pots or pickups are the original ones that came with the bass.

oh shoot... I should have waited a few more days before pulling the trigger on mine... saw it in the shop, had a play and bought it on impulse... at full price as well... is the pouch the little slip in one that comes with it in the box or the proper one with the velcro belt loop and carabiner clip? If the latter, you wouldn't by any chance be willing to sell the proper pouch separately now would you? -
looks like a Warmoth body... can anyone with an eBay account please ask him to post a picture of the inside of the neck pocket...
