If he is a bit of a rocker, you could have a look at the Jackson minion. 28 scale. I have heard good things about them. Also, in my opinion, Thomann do really well priced bundles - bass, amp, lead strap... There is a really cool 28 scale P bass on there too I think. I'll have a look now.

I say try them and see. I bought a set of Olympia flats for 15 quid I think. Suffice it to say I bought another set. On the other hand I might just not understand how crap they are🤔. Sound OK to me though.

Cheers for the heads up, really appreciated. I have been doing some digging and it is, I believe, an S2000 from around 1990. I have seen the brochure and I don't believe it should have the switch and led, so again, what that redundant little pot is for is beyond me. It has the optional extra offered on that model of the red coloured carbon weave (I'll try to capture it in photo) - £48 extra in 1990. It looks really cool in the sunlight. The sheared off pot is the pick up blend, so don't know where that is set. All I know is that with the two tone pots up full, it sounds huuuge at the bottom end and like a bunch of giant hornets coming at you at the top end. It's is like nothing I own so am loving it.

I finally picked up the Status that was gathering dust at a mates house today. Quick clean..... taking the strings off is a right faff (specially when you have no idea😀). Proper low action, plays like a dream... even though she has the widest 4 string neck known to man! have a few questions and really need some expert help though. 1. As some twonk has painted the hardware black, is there any way to remove it without damaging the brass. I know you can put stuff in boiling water (slow cooker for example), but can't do that with the string clamp? 2. As I have no access to a new pot, solder or iron at the mo, could I glue something to the sheared off pot in order to turn it, as a quick fix? 3. What does each pot control..... sorry I have no idea. One controls the overall volume, but I can't work out the others... individual pickups, tone? Doesn't help that one is busted off. 4. What the f is the little pot? Looks like decoration to me. Not attatched to anything inside, and doesn't turn without catching the input socket wiring. 5. If it is decoration, then should there be a passive/active switch, as when I take the batteries out......... silence. As I said previously I have no experience with active electronics. Didn't even think to check. I was gonna pull trigger on the active five string stingray copy........ gone from their website completely. Definitely something going on at Harley Benton/Thomann.

I feel your pain. My story of mac woe is probably worse. My wife upgraded the OS on the mac (only to Sierra) and kept the old OS on an external hard drive for her design purposes. Anyhoo, sierra has no input options at all 😳, just external mic, which is no good to me. I used to use my line six pods for connectivity but no more. It is a real faff to swap and change the OS. Trawled the interweb but seems to be a quirk with sierra. Can only put ideas down on my jam man xt looper now.

Much prefer the look of the stingray copy but could be swayed by playability. Has one got a sleeker neck for example. I will have a look at the specs later. Those active Ibanez 5ers for around 250 look pretty good too. 170 odd for an active five string is just too cheap to argue with though, as I may hate active and 5 strings. Although I have just been playing my fretless (granted with all the distortion, delay and phaser I could muster) and I actually enjoyed it for a while!

The only reason I have seven (not Gas honestly😎) is coz they all sound different and are great at different things. Output levels on a couple are a bit lower (I'm looking at you Mr Mustang) , but I can take that for the awesome tonal qualities. Well that's my excuse to the missus...... works a charm doesn't it!

I can play the long game if necessary. I have enough toys to keep me busy. I just have no active or 5 ers in my hareem and 170 quid seems fair dincum to dip my toe in. I do hope they haven't discontinued em though.

According to Ricky 4000, the whispers are that Calhoon and Wimbish were big pals and Calhoon wanted him in. As I said to Ricky, the only thing worse than Stain, was the plop stain in my pants when I realised what I'd spent my money on.
