  1. A mate of mine is 6' 7" or 8". He plays an EB2...... Just hope doesn't drop it.....
  2. I have felt like that about my Thunderbird (through neck and all that). But hey ho, it is meant to be played. Now then, how to get the case in the car πŸ˜‚.
  3. This cheap? 177 quid from Thomann. 3 band eq with 5 way pickup selector. Good it is too! You can also have a passive single pickup MM5 SB for 117 I think
  4. Love my 70s CV. It's the same version as yours. Superb with flats and the neck is lovely.
  5. Every breath you take - The Police (shudder).
  6. Could be wrong, but are, for example the frets different too? Vintage on the 60s and jumbos on the 70s? Also aesthetically, blocks and binding on the 70s but dots on the 60s?
  7. Can't sing the praises of my Vintera Mustang tone enough. Been trying to get to grips with my new 5 string recently, so have avoided playing my other basses (as recommended by the good folk here on BC). Gave in today and had a cheeky blast on the Mustang....still produces an absolute wow moment when I dig in with a plectrum.
  8. Simon Gallup. Adds a shed load of vibe to the Cure..... for sure.!
  9. I do believe the individual pole pieces on the neck pickup can be adjusted using a screwdriver (like my EBO). I would start there. Just screw the g slightly closer to the string and the e slightly further away. This may solve the problem. You can also bring the rear pickup closer to the g and lower it away fron the E should you need to, although it sounds like the front pickup could be the culprit.
  10. Absolutely. One of my faves here.. And the intro by Don Cornelius is pure class
  11. For me, the tone of my Mustang is to die for. I am not fazed by scale length, string spacing, weight, 4 or 5 strings (never played more), active or passive. I love all my basses, but man the Mustang sounds so cool - especially playing funk with a plectrum for some reason........
  12. I love it - the tone is sublime! Great colour choice for the Talman. Is it the one with the tort scratchplate?
  13. I love the shape of the Talman. Nearly bought the 5 string active one myself, but wanted to spend even less, as the 5 string was only a punt to see if I liked it. Ended up spending more than I wanted on the HH Ray alike, rather than the MB5 SB. I kinda forgot about the Talman and the fact that it was only 30 quid less than I spent in the endπŸ˜³πŸ™„πŸ˜‚. Still happy with what I got though, so all good πŸ‘. I reckon you have made an excellent choice though, as I love a short scale! Now for the next question...... What colour are you going for? coz there is loads choice for the 4 strings... I love a bit of short scale green myselfwe
  14. I actually love the Sunburst and matching headstock on this one. Plus I love that the black scratchplate hides the humbucker. I had the 5 string on order but as it was going to be my only 5 string I changed it to its fugly, but far better specced sibling - the MM85 a. I am usually a sucker for the right look/colour, but in this instance it was all about getting the maximum tonal variations for as little cash as possible. I think a black scratchplate would sort the two eyewateringly in your face humbuckers, and on the plus side, the burst is a lovely claret colour.
  15. Fair play. I've got the mm85 a, it is heavy ish, but it is a five string, with two mahoosive humbuckers πŸ˜‚. Plus I have just picked it with up my Vintera Mustang and it is no heavier really. I think the basswood bodies help in reducing the weight. Problem is finding out how heavy they are. Although nothing is too much for Thomann customer service. I am 100% sure they will tell you what their basses weigh if you call them.
  16. There is also the Harley Benton MB4 SB deluxe, if you fancy a passive Ray a like. Yours for 107 english pounds
  17. My first and only trade was a black and white Encore P Bass for my Westone Thunder II in about 1990. I have terrible remorse to this day about passing on the p.o.s to musical exchanges πŸ˜‚. In fact I was talking to Gary, the manager at PMT in Birmingham the other week. He worked there at the time. I can't remember if I did the deal with him, but if I did........
  18. That was the one I was at... depressingly poor.
  19. I had the same depressing experience with Mr Brown at a festival - probably a couple of years before he died. I was so excited to see him and it was awful. I think he had his daughter singing for most of it. I also had the same experience at the Phoenix festival seeing George Clinton. Total pap. Luckily Bootsy was on in the Jazz tent the same day...... One of the best gigs I have every been to. Just amazing. Brought me right back up.
  20. Two for me. King Monkey, Mr Brown, got a cob on at the Academy in Brum Town and didn't come out til about 22.30 - 23.00. All the sheeple were booing like mad, then as soon as he appeared went crazy. I was just crazy..... mad at the unprofessionalism. Still love him though. Also, not music, but Frankie Boyle. Did about 40 minutes, but boy were they a funny 40 minutes (he finished withMichael Jackson children's hospital).
  21. Totally agree. I love Stankonia too. Still remember hearing Bombs over Baghdad for the first time!!
