  1. I think what I'm describing is Magical Equipment Syndrome - the idea that certain amps and cabs will deliver an unparalleled sound based on a vague notion rather than any concrete knowledge of engineering, acoustics etc. So, it would be great to hear from someone who actually understands some of these things. Or doesn't. It's all fun.
  2. ... and when I say grunt I was thinking 1x12 with tweeter or even 2x12
  3. Thought I'd open a can of worms, but I'd genuinely like to know the answer. I have an Acoustic Image Clarus and love it. My AI cab (doubleshot) is great in rehearsal type situations, but I'd like something with a bit more grunt for bigger gigs. The late lamented Euphonic Audio were obviously the go-to cabs for DB in the past, but I'm wondering if the likes of Bergantino etc would be their equivalent or better given the passing of time? I guess this is a variation on the 'what's a great clean sounding cab' question which has been asked previously, but it would be good to know if my EA fixation is purely nostalgia or based in some kind of reality?
  4. Pretty sure @Burns-bassbought this as I was also interested. Apologies if I’m wrong

  6. Thanks very much ... you learn something every day and today it's 'what is a solo bass?'
  7. Can I ask a question please? What exactly is a soloist bass? I presume it's a DB optimised for a certain kind of playing - solos presumably - but haven't found a coherent explanation online. Is it somehow less suitable for bread-and-butter walking lines for eg? Thanks
  8. By a stroke of luck this is exactly what I’m getting from another basschatter
  9. Please see ad in Double Bass and EUBs for sale
  10. I’ve got hold of a new AI Clarus and Doubleshot so putting these two up for sale. The Focus comes with the original AI padded bag (and even a manual!). I’ve pasted a page from the AI site with the specs. Amp is working flawlessly and sounds great with the (much younger) Upshot… a small gig/rehearsal set up that fits in a backpack. I’ll include a speakon cable and (obviously) the amp power lead. Postage at buyer’s expense, thanks.
  11. I think I might go with a BSB06… thanks for the offer of the Christopher… I’ll let Burns Bass have that. Best R
  12. … and if anyone wants to sell me their old bag I’d be interested.
  13. Hi, need to replace my DB bag as the zips are detaching from the material. I understand Soundwear are the top dog, but putting my circa £1k bass in an £800 bag isn’t right (for me). Has anyone got a recommendation at the £200-£300 mark? There’s so many choices out there. I don’t want wheels or a trolley, just the best combination of protection and weight for the buck. My bass is a large 3/4 btw. Thanks R
  14. I’ll take this for when I inevitably lose mine. Richard Jinman The Old School, Babcary, Somerset TA11 7DT. can you let me know total pls and I’ll send the cash. Cheers R
  15. I bought this on here and have gigged it lightly. I'm sure everyone on this forum knows exactly what it is and what it does. Extremely reliable pup which reproduced the sound of my bass admirably. There is a little discolouration of the copper plate on one side (see pix) but no effect on performance. Postage should be about a fiver I'd imagine. Thanks for looking.
  16. I've also listed this in the DB/EUB section so hope that's OK. Fantastic cab for DB in particular. Compact and reasonably light. I bought it with the EA Doubler also listed here, but have got hold of an AI Doubleshot that I'm going to use with my Clarus ... so suddenly I've got a surfeit of excellent DB amplification. Details of the cab are here: Model: Acme Low B-1 Series II Frequency response: +/-3 dB 41Hz to 22 kHz -6 dB at 31 Hz Power Handling:175 Watts RMS continuous, 150 Watts sine wave @ 30.87 Hz Sensitivity: 90 dB 1W/1M Impedance: 4 ohms Dimensions: 15.75″H x 15.75″W x 13.5″D Weight: 31lbs/14.1kg Happy to post at buyer's expense. Any questions please ask, thanks
  17. I've also listed this in the DB/EUB section so hope that's OK. Bought on here a few months back, but I've got hold of a doubleshot to go with my AI clarus so I suddenly have a surfeit of fine DB amplification. The amp is in fine condition and everything works as it should. Kettle lead included of course, but no original packaging. Happy to post at buyer's cost. You can read a user review here: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/euphonic-audio-doubler-ii.1288121/. Short version: EA's trademark 'transparent' sound optimised for DB and electric bass. Plenty of EQ options. £300. Any questions please ask, thanks.
  18. Bought this on here with a lovely EA Doubler amp, but have subsequently got hold of a doubleshot to go with my AI Clarus. Fantastic sounding cab for acoustic bass in particular. Details here: Model: Acme Low B-1 Series II Frequency response: +/-3 dB 41Hz to 22 kHz -6 dB at 31 Hz Power Handling:175 Watts RMS continuous, 150 Watts sine wave @ 30.87 Hz Sensitivity: 90 dB 1W/1M Impedance: 4 ohms Dimensions: 15.75″H x 15.75″W x 13.5″D Weight: 31lbs/14.1kg Happy to post at buyer's expense and if you want the amp and the cab, I'm sure we can work out a deal. Thanks.
