What is the most you'd personally pay for a new bass?
Bassybert replied to lidl e's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm in the same boat where I don't have a lot of disposable income to splash out on gear, but to me that's a pretty good leveller for a couple of reasons... 1 - It makes me concentrate on enjoying the things I do have and means I spend more time playing rather than GASing. 2 - You can get a ridiculous amount of bass for £300 these days, even more if you're buying a well looked after used instrument. I'd say embrace the restriction, I can be a challenge but it's all relative value wise. -

Accounting for inflation those prices roughly equate to the following in 2022 money... Tele - £1,567.20 Strat - £1,887.77 Precision - £1,709.68 Jazz - £2,051.61 When you consider cases were an additional cost as well the prices seem higher in the 70's than they do now! -
That bottom rig looks immense, I can literally feel my trousers flapping from here!

World Cup sign off uses the power of love as sound track!

Wasn't this just for the BBC coverage and not the official FIFA ending song, and if so was almost certainly done as an ironic gesture to the Qatar/FIFA approach? -
Another cracking build Disssa! Are those valves/tubes running on high DC voltage?

I'd put BSSM on my list of all time favourite records and have listened to it more times than I can count, but my god they've done some absolute tripe since that record. I can't listen to the lyrics of most of their stuff post BSSM, it sounds like it was written by someone learning for the first time how words can rhyme. They still had that danger/edge about them during BSSM.

I’d definitely nick it to second slip playing that!

Yes it is a strange position, but if you buy the pre-drilled enclosures (like I have) that's where they are. I don't think there's an option to change it unless I'm missing something completely obvious when ordering 😄

That looks amazing @disssa very professional, your builds always look super clean!

I think they look great, especially the wobble marks on the Throb 😃 How do they sound? They're very addictive aren't they! The quality of Fuzzdog and Jeds kits are brilliant for the money, although I wish there was a different size enclosure option as my fat fingers find some of the wiring around the powerjack/footswitch/jack sockets a bit of a squeeze. I think I might source my own 1590BB size enclosures and buy just the non-enclosure parts next time.

Thank you, she’s definitely got a very creative mind. I’ve got a Univox super fuzz kit lined up for my Christmas present that she can go to town on 😊

Here's a few kits I've built from Jeds Peds and Fuzzdog. The Trem, Mad Mule and delay are more guitar based but the fuzz and SHO work really well on bass. All designs were done as a joint effort with my daughter using posca pens and then a couple coats of varnish over the top. The fuzz sounds amazing with my precision, you can't really play more than one note at a time but it gets really dirty and still keeps nice definition. The SHO is a clone of the ZVex Super Hard On clean boost and adds a huge amount of boost when needed, perfect for pushing preamps tubes!

The sheen on that fretboard is glorious. What a gorgeous looking neck

Bright, zingy string recommendations please
Bassybert replied to Mykesbass's topic in General Discussion
I’ve started using DR Hi Beams and I think I’ve found my favourite string. I love the tone, the growl and the feel of them. The tension seems spot on for me, not too firm but not sloppy either, they just seem really fun to play. No idea how long the brightness lasts but they’ve been brilliant so far. One trivial/purely cosmetic thing I also like about them is that they don’t have silk wraps, as I don’t like the way they fluff up and separate. -
When provenance is not enough (in my view)

A very interesting quote there Grimalkin, was there a prediction of what happens after that state? Some sort of reset where we put less emphasis on material goods/wealth, or a Lord of the Flies style apocalyptic struggle? Pretty sure most existing Trace Elliot gear would survive the latter 😄 -
Punk is/was all about challenging convention and having a do it yourself attitude rather than it being about a boyish and skinny image. Age has nothing to do with it, just happened to be that the punk movement was full of young skinny people in the 70s when it emerged.

I don't care if it was Jaco or Jameson themselves that played it, no bass is even remotely worth £9k. You can harp on all day about 'it is if that's what people are prepared to pay for it' but it's just insanity paying £££'s for some old wood, paint and metal. Even more so if seem like it's fallen in a barrel of toxic sludge along the way 😄 -
Going to see Jason Isbell on Thursday in London after 2 years of Covid delays. Really looking forward to it, I’m a big fan of Jimbo Hart the bass player for the 400 unit and looking forward to seeing them live.

Higher tension than LaBella’s, jeez they must be like playing a reinforcement bar 😂

Saw Bob Dylan on weds night (Tony Garnier so good, played a Fender Bass VI a lot) and the Australian Pink Floyd tonight 😀

The adagios on my precision are like that
