  1. Yep, I looked at second hand before I ordered mine - but most advertised weren't much less than the MP prices but without warranty, box, postage etc so it didn't make sense. Worth keeping as the perfect back-up amp surely? I never gig without having a spare with me.
  2. Sorry to hijack the thread, but which EQ do you use, and do you mind sharing your settings? Have been considering doing something similar on my HX Effects patches, but haven't got round to trying the EQ's out yet. Would give me a starting point at least. Cheers!
  3. Ha 😀. Made sense to me. I use a Big Twin II for big gigs which is less supposed tonally coloured (more FRFR) than the 10 inch BF models. Guess the PJB's would have similar characteristics in that regard, which is a good thing in my book!
  4. That's interesting - thanks - makes sense of a few other things I've read. Good to have some input from someone who has used both!
  5. Well thanks to @Merton and this thread I have also taken the plunge on an RM800 from MP for my new small pub rig. Just need to find a cab to match with now, thinking BF210, or maybe a PJB C8 (or two C4's). Depends on what I can find reasonably priced second hand!
  6. Last chance before it goes on eBay - £55 posted in the Uk
  7. Mike at Zoot is really good. He's near Witham. He's on here as @cosmicrain
  8. Yep certainly to an extent, although even a few inches width and a few kg's lighter makes all the difference to how easy it is to get through narrow doorways etc, so would like smaller if possible, but that might be the compromise. There's a nice Hartke HD500w combo for £365 on eBay, or a small stack with 2 X 112 and a 500w head for £550 which would also do the job. You and @Merton may have convinced me to relook at Barefaced though, but maybe only one rather than a stack. If I could find a single BF 210S second hand and pair it with a second hand RM500/800, then whilst it would be slightly over budget it would absolutely fit the bill in every other department. Thanks guys!
  9. Yep getting the 210 cab crossed my mind too. It works on price, power, sound and features, but not on footprint. Might look at an RM500 or 800 head with smaller cabs though.
  10. £332?? Is that right?? They are £849 from Ashdown! The only thing that puts me off is that you'd realy need another cab underneath to get the full 500w out of it, but it's mighty tempting! Good find - and I do love Ashdown...
  11. I really love my Big Twin and ABM, I don't want to change it as it's perfect for my other projects. I have a custom Zoot plus a Stingray that just sound the nuts trough it. I've spent years and thousands of pounds (and not to mention lots of false starts/dead endings with other gear) putting it together and I absolutely love it. This is not the gig for that gear. This is playing small/medium sized pubs with rowdy punters and a lively band in small alcoves! I'm using sub £300 basses that I don't care if they get knocked over, hit into cymbals etc so aside from the practicalities of the Big Twin/ABM and not wanting them to get damaged/nicked there's very little point in using such a high end amp for this gig. I just need a half decent sub £500ish set up that's small and up to the job, and again I don't mind if it gets knocked about. I'll save my other set up for other gigs.
  12. Yep think a couple of smallish 112's and a Class D head might be they way to go. There are some Eden ones that look very compact that have caught my eye.
  13. It's as much that I don't want to take £1.5k+ worth of amp to these gigs tbh. Also the ABM is a rack mount and only just fits on top of the Big Twin, so pretty sure it would be a bit precious on top of a vertical 210.
  14. Actually this is one of the first things I thought too. However I'd rather keep the Big Twin for other gigs and have a cheaper and more expendable amp for this band if possible!
  15. Will have a look at these - may be able to stretch the budget a little 😬
  16. Hi All, I've joined a new local band. Fairly standard pub rock covers, but done well and blooming loud 😂 It's a 5 piece and I know the venue's we play are going to have very limited stage space, and the load in's/outs are going to be a pain. I used my Big Twin II and ABM 600 on the weekend and whilst it sounded awesome it was just a little OTT and took up too much stage space. I was thinking that I might look out for a rig that would be smaller and easier, whilst also being loud enough to keep up. Possibly an upright 208 or 210 combo (Like TC BG250-208 or Mark Bass 802) with a matching cab underneath, or two cabs and a head. Really like to have at least 500w available to me if possible. I'm not so worried about weight as I am size, and definitely want something with some hight rather than a combo alone on the floor with all the sound going under me! Budgetwise I'd like to keep it under £4-500, so probably looking at second hand. I've already elected not to take my best basses to these gigs as they are pretty rough and things are likely to get knocked about, so have a cheap Ibanez 4 string and Sire V3 5'er lined up for this project, so just need a cheapish amp to match. However I may be asking too much of little amps like this, so if anyone has any recommendations or experience of similar set ups it would be great to hear! Cheers, Matt
  17. For sale is a refurbished Limited Edition Epiphone Wildkat. Made in August 2012 this was a limited run in metallic black (Black Royale) which looks fantastic. When I got the guitar it hadn't been played for some years and I have carefully recommissioned it as a project. After an initial inspection I installed a brand new high quality jack socket as the original had failed, and then cleaned up all the electrics which now work without fault or crackle. Jack failure isn't uncommon on these types of guitars and the new socket should give years of hassle free service. I then stripped all the hardware and cleaned and polished the paintwork to a high shine. The bodywork is virtually mark free - the only blemish is a small hairline crack where the binding on the underside of the neck at the cutaway meets the paint as pictured in photo 6. This can't be seen or felt when playing and is purely superficial, otherwise this is in absolute stunning condition for a 9 year old guitar. After this the frets were then polished, the fretboard cleaned and oiled, all metal work cleaned and polished, and then the guitar was reassembled with Ernie Ball slinky strings (9's). I then did a final set up, adjusting the truss rod to which moves easily and works perfectly to set the relief, and finally set the string height and intonation at the bridge. The guitar now looks great and plays brilliantly, and as a bonus comes with a factory hard case (worth £100 alone) which again is in really excellent condition, and does a great job of protecting the guitar. The P90 pick ups are really versatile, they obviously do the hollow body 335 type thing really well, but also dirty up really nicely for rock tones too, and the Bigsby is a lovely addition. I have photos of the restoration should the buyer be interested in seeing them. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Cash on collection from Chelmsford. Factory specs are as follows: Model: Wildkat AN Archtop Collection Top: Flamed Maple Back & Sides: Mahogany Neck, Maple, set Neck profile: SlimTaper "D" Scale: 628mm (24.75") Fretboard: Rosewood Fretboard radius: 305mm (12") Nut width: 1.68" Frets: 22 Medium Jumbo Inlays: Dots Neck pickup: P-90R Dogear Classics Bridge pickup: P-90T Dogear Classics Bridge: LockTone Tune-o-matic Tailpiece: Bigsby B-70 Vibrato Tuners: Grover, 18:1 Hardware: Nickel
  18. This is a bit of an old thread now, but it sounded great with the second 210. I was very tempted with an 810 to be fair, but I did end up with a Barefaced Big Twin 2 to try with it too, which also sounded great. Huge sound!! However the Barefaced also sounded really excellent with my ABM600 - so good in fact, that once I started gigs and rehearsals again, this is what I was consistently taking out. So I was left in a bit of a dilemma. I'd lusted over a CTM for year and finally had one, but wasn't using it - and ultimately decided to sell on the basis that although it sounded better in curtain circumstances than the ABM, it was marginal, and the ABM is far more versatile. I sold the CTM and 210's last month locally to a guy in a Foo Fighters tribute, so went to a good home at least. However I could definitely be tempted by one again in the future if the circumstances are right - I just don't currently have the funds and space to justify both!
  19. I've been looking at this as have a dep gig in a few weeks where I really need one or I'll be changing basses nearly every song! I borrowed a friend's HX FX for a rehearsal last night and used the Simple Pitch effect. Was absolutely brilliant, even when playing double stops or three note chords. Didn't even bother trying the new polyphonic options which are supposed to be even better. I had a HX about 18 months ago, and sold it in preference of building up a board again (having sold all my pedals to by the HX 🤣), but have to say that having used one again last night I am really tempted to get one again. Given a decent detune pedal is £100+, and you can pick up an HX FX for less than £300 second hand, and on top of all the other effects of has tuner, looper, and also bass pedal for those Geddy Lee moments!! Obviously this is available on all the helix variants and the go, so certainly something to consider.
  20. I suspect that you'd struggle to find a bigger louder amp for this sort of money! If I had the space I'd be tempted just for the 1 time every year I have a gig where I could justify an 810!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ashdown-MAG-810-EVO-II-800W-8x10-Bass-Speaker-Extension-Cabinet-Mag-600-EVO-II-/164954640951?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
