"They're playing your guitars in there"

and if you Hercules stands.... https://www.bax-shop.co.uk/guitar-wall-mount/hercules-stands-hcha-101-guitar-stand-lock?gclid=CjwKEAiAvZTCBRDvnoOaoa2j3xISJABxPjN9fJZnZ3Irggx91EhKionigGs4yVoL9BmpB681tPJpTBoCZPTw_wcB I use these. End of gig = Pack away guitars immediately. Between sets, lock stand and never have kit out of eyeline! -
Always take two, if one fails for any reason (broken string, flat battery, electronic failure, exploding scratchplate) then it is an easy job to swap over quickly and not hold up procedings, bit of a buzz kill if you have to hold up the set whilst you restring bass. But that's just me.

Hi guys, NOW REDUCED FOR A LIMITED TIME £250.00 Last of my 4 stringers! This has mojo but is a great player, and a top piece of history. I got this from Muzz and he said: It's a Nightingale, a rare beast these days, here's some info from Russ on here (and thanks to him for this) about Nightingales: "Nightingale basses were made by Neil McDonald, who used to be Bernie Goodfellow's business partner in the original Goodfellow Guitars venture. Neil struck out on his own and started Nightingale after Bernie sold the Goodfellow name to Lowden in Northern Ireland (a few years before he started GB). The Nightingales shared a lot of features with the Goodfellow/GB basses, including the custom Kent Armstrong pickups and Dick Straker's active circuit, as well as some similar styling cues, including an almost identical headstock for a while (I loved Nightingale's yin/yang owl logo). The Nightingales were awesome instruments. I owned a lovely bolt-on 4-string for a while and it's one of the basses I really regret selling. Back in the mid-90s, Neil McDonald moved his workshop from Croydon to Denmark St. He started to build a profile as a guitar tech, and after he made the perspex bass for Charlie Jones he got some extra visibility as a luthier, but by 2002 or so, he'd closed up shop. No idea what he's doing now, alas. I know Bernie G still services Nightingale basses, since they used more or less identical pickups and circuits to the early GBs (not to mention that the newer GB "bass processor" active circuit just drops straight in)." The bass itself is very reminiscent in shape of the early Rumours, and does indeed have a custom Armstrong pickup - I contacted Aaron and his father about it, and they confirmed it's a high output single coil: "My father would of made this the code stands for the following: J10 = 67.5mm long 12mm tall inside coil measurement; 5X = 3 ceramic magnets 8mm deep; 7kt = 7,000 turns of wire; 63 = 0.063mm guage wire (42 AWG). I couldn't give you an exact date but definitely before my time ( I started working with my dad in 98).. " The EQ is active bass and treble, and it's got a surprising sweep of tones for a single pickup bass. The neck and headstock's got some nice birdseye going on, and a very nice black ebony board, and the quality of the bass itself is a cut above the usual factory-made suspects. It's got some of yer actual mojo going on (see pics), one of the tuners has been refitted t'other way round, but it all works, it plays nicely and is definitely something different. When I got it, I had an issue with the truss rod adjuster, it was a little chewed, the truss worked perfectly, and in the end I had a local luthier make me a new adjuster, so all is good there now. It is a really nice solid bass with mojo and a real players bass, offering it here at a fab pre Christmas/Black Friday price of £275, or maybe a 5 string trade. Cheers for looking, pics below:

As I have just completed another successful gig playing the 5 stringers I have decided to move on my fours. Will happily discuss trades for anything 5 strings. I have three 4's for sale/trade: A Stadium bass in black, Czech made. MTD designed, asymetric neck, zero fret, lovely woods, great electrics, beautiful player, great tone. An early Nightingale bass in black (Bernie Goodfellow designed I believe), lovely figured maple neck, great player, plenty of mojo but a lovely instrument. Finally a lovely Fender GB41SCE Acoustic bass, these were expensive beasts, beautifully made with some quality hardware and electrics. Pics below: Sale prices: Stadium Bass £ 250.00 Nightingale Bass £ 275.00 Fender Acoustic £ 195.00 I would be happy to discuss any trades for anything 5 string. Cheers All

As I have made the move to 5's I am clearing out the 4's. Did another successful gig last weekend with a 5, so sticking with it. Mainly looking for trades but will look at sales to raise funds. I have a fab Czech made Stadium bass, super high quality, great player, Tobias designed with all the trimmings. Next up is a nice old Nightingale (Bernie Goodfellow designed I believe) which plays and sounds great, has mojo but is a great player. Lastly is a really nice Fender Acoustic bass, a GB 41SCE, these were expensive beasts with some nice hardware and features, really playable neck for an acoustic. Pics below: Stadium Bass at £ 275.00 Nightingale Bass at £ 295.00 Fender Bass at £ 195.00 All 5 string trades considered! Cheers All

5 strings - 35" scale - the downside...
vmaxblues replied to vmaxblues's topic in General Discussion
I am using the B string sparingly, but I do tend to like the E on the B string. It's a muscle memory thing for me, and finally the 5's are feeling a bit more familiar now. Odd how key things have helped, simple things like....A is the middle string, sounds obvious but strangely helped. The two fives I have are wider string spacing which is what has made it possible for me to transition, but this has obviously had an impact on the shapes my left hand is getting used to. But I take your point, I may be over thinking it, and standing awkwardly. An observer at a recent gig said to me afterwards, 'are you alright, you didn't look your normal self?' I had put this down to me concentrating on not making a mistake with the stringing, but it may have been I was somehow standing awkwardly. -
So, having made the move to 5 strings and now owning 2 no.35" scale 5 stringers, and loving the change, however I have just come down with a really painful elbow, just like tennis elbow. Only just made the connection, I think it is me practising a lot with my new 5 stringers, what do you guys reckon? And, what can I do about it? Cheers Stuart
