Hey folks, I'm the proud owner of a rather lovely Trace Elliot 715 combo (an old begger) with the 130 watt series 6 GP7 amp and was wondering if anyone had ever taken the head out to use as a 'Head only' set up. Might sound a bit daft, but let me explain. I'm in the process of becoming the proud owner of josh3184's Hartke Pro 2x12 cab, and as I love what the Trace gives me, even as simple as it is, it'd be a perfect stop gap til I get the green light to buy my Hartke head. Might seem like a nutter question, and probably is, but it'd also save me hunting out a new head as work has me all over the place. I'm pretty sure that the trace runs as low as 4 ohms, hence running the hartke won't be a problem (or at least I think not), but I'm interested to see if anyone has done this before. Don't panic, like I say, I do plan to go for a new head at some point, but just thought this would buy me some more time and please the missus as I won't be spending anymore cash (well, for now anyway). I'll probably post swap + cash deal at some point for the trace combo against a head, but again, was just wondering. Any thoughts?

This all excellent stuff folks and I greatly appreciate your help. Outboard it is as I could use it with my 73 precision. Reckon I'll have a look at the EBS microbass when my guitar is finished. thx again

Thanks mate, hence the reason for my post in the first place....looking for BC'ers feedback.
Sorry to be a bit of a killjoy but I find that highly doubtful. Have you ever put on a gig before?
Not really mate, but like my posts have stated, I'm not planning to. I merely posted to see if anyone could highlight pitfalls or even if anyone, now knowing that this awesome player would love to come to the UK, would fancy taking it a step further. For info, I have organised many an event, be it a martial arts tournament, a boxing tournament, a school fayre etc etc, and granted, not gigs in the musical use of the word. The Boxing gig had over 1000 people there and was a huge success. This maybe a different kettle of fish, but basic fundamentals are there, venue, promotion, travel, equipment etc etc.
She's a fantastic player though and I'm kinda in love with her.
We all are mate I'm kind of with you on the loss thing, but four or five 300-400 people gigs, at lets say £10 each.....must be worth somebodys while. She has a huge following throughout Europe and the UK so packing venues out won't be a problem methinks. I'm going to do a bit of phoning around in terms of venues and prices, and I'll have a natter with the Lady in question in terms of fees, etc. I'll repost soon.

Hiya folks, Not sure I'm posting this in the right place, but hey ho. Just wondering what the general feelings would be about getting the rather Fab Lydia to the UK to do a couple of gigs. I don't think anyone can doubt this ladies skill on the bass and it'd be great to see it live. She's never been to the UK so would be a bit of a coup. Now, I'm not saying I'm the one with the contacts to be able to make this happen....I ain't, but having built up a rapport with this wonderful player, I know that she's definately up for it. Does anyone know anyone, who may know someone, who could make this happen - reckon it could be a bit of a money spinner for someone (just guessing), as I'm sure she'd pack a few rooms. WHADDAYARECKON?

What was your first bass and why did you start playing?
Hoppo75 replied to damo200sx's topic in Bass Guitars
Started playing when I was 14, with a Fender Musicmaster lying flat on my knee (think Jeff Healy R.I.P) . Music was in the family, Dad's a guitarist, Mother has one of the most wonderful singing voices I've ever heard period, Grandad was an outstanding Trumpeter, one Uncle was a big band leader, another a bassist, Aunty a Piano teacher yadda yadda yadda....I had to play something and the bass felt damn good (once I got a strap on it lol). -
This is all excellent stuff folks - can't thank you enough. Going to try an LH500 this week, so fingers crossed. Thx again folks.

Hiya guys. Even though I've played for nigh on 20 years, and know my precision inside out, my knowledge of electronics is absolutely limited to 'active and passive'. My jazz project is going great guns, and having just had Fender SCN's fitted pre strip down, I've been thinking about going down the 'active electronics' route as per jazz deluxe. However, I have absolutely no idea what the hell this entails, and I've been further confused but a lot of BC'ers using outboard pre's (sadowskys etc). The body hasn't any paint applied to it so now is the time to get my Luthier mate to do the necessary, but though I'd ask to see what advice was on offer here. thanks folks.

Hiya folks, My Columbus Jazz project is coming along very nicely (well, I say Columbus....the neck is all that is left lol), and I'm starting to buy some hardware for it. Does anyone know where I can get a blank Deluxe Jazz neck plate? I've tried the usual places but not having much luck. I'm going to get it engraved to personalise it, but would prefer the shaped jobby, as opposed to the usual rectangular plate. Like this, but without the Fender Corona gubbins on it.

Folks, I can't thank you all enough for this excellent info. I'll keep you informed as to what I end up with.

Thats great mate. The LH500 looks excellent, especially for the price. Just had a read of the LH500 info and most ads say that it's been designed to drive the 'Hydrive' cab range. I don't think I'd be looking at the hydrive range, as I think I'd get better value going 2nd hand on the cabs, so would be looking at SWR/Hartke pro range. I also want to remain fairly portable, hence would be running 1 cab (2x10/2x12). I play such a wide range of music, I need to be able to switch from a tasty funky slap tone to a nice, deep country ballad tone. I think the head will give me a massive amount of control, and a friend has recommended the 2x12 Hartke Pro, but I've been a combo man (same combo) for 20 years so I'm totally out of touch. Can anyone recommend a cab to match what I'm looking for? thx from a numpty.

Hiya folks, I know the 3500 gets rave reviews, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced the baby brother? Looking for my first cab and head setup, hence the question. THX Drew

Bit of an obscure one folks, underated massively moreso as a band, but their bassist was excellent....Jellyfish and a guy called Jason Falkner. If you haven't heard the album 'Bellybutton', it's a must listen.
Mine was being used as an extension cab with one of the old/big Mk4 1x15 combos. Fun lifting to form a stack.
I've got a series 6, with the GP7 head (130w I'm sure). I've never in my life even considered running a cab from the combo, but the thought of a 10, 15 and 18 combination sounds super cool.....would my combo cope?

Hiya folks, I've just ordered the above item for my jazz project, but as it's a 'suck it and see' purchase, may offer it up for sale. Just wondering it if anyone would be interested? I've ordered it from WD music, hence you can check it out here http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/Jazz_Bass...Pearl_JBAS-328R Like I say, it's only a feeler purchase folks, but should I decide that it's not for me, will let it go to the first PM. I'm guessing as it'll be brand new I'd be looking for £25 plus postage, but will sort that out later.
Its too late now but Hipshot have started making their bridges with Fender fit holes. Badass gone bust; whats that all about?
My mate is doing a bit more digging to find out what's going on with Leo Quan mate. He's hearing that Fender have bought them out. Will keep you updated as I find out.
-
You may have to go for the HMV regardless mate, depending on your urgency. I'm re-vamping a Jazz at the moment and had the Badass III as my preferred bridge of choice (thru body stringing being my preference), but I've tried all over the place to get one and all stores had 3 month lead times. I've been told by a guy who, lets just say, is very close to Fender, that Leo Quan has gone bust hence no supplies. Nonetheless, I've gone for the HMV and in a way I'm pleased as close up it looks rather tasty and not as clinical as the badass, and I'm sure it'll do the job just fine.
