Newtone stings? They reckon to to almost anything.

I can't believe that no-one has asked how much it weighs.

Biggest Bass Drop... EVER!!! #Edit:It's come to my attention that the term “Bass Drop" is not universal so may I add that this thread is asking for members to share their favourite Outstanding Bass moments in songs & has nothing to do with dropping fish*
Count Bassy replied to Ted Theodore Logan, III's topic in General Discussion
A Family fan here as well (as you may have guessed). In case you didn't know, Chapman is still going strong (if infrequently) at the age of 77 (78 in a few weeks!). A stark contrast to the recently discussed sad case of Phil Collins. Luck of the draw I guess. Currently working on an album with Poli Palmer (Keys and Vibes in the above clips).- 66 replies

That's right. I love the version on "Anyway", but couldn't find that one to post.- 66 replies

How to raise cash for a better bass? Is it even possible?
Count Bassy replied to CongBass's topic in General Discussion
How many kidneys do have have (currently)? Could you manage with one less? -
I agree , but there also keyboardists who think they can play a piano!

Unless you have a big big stage and you have the luxury of everyone having their own monitor mix then it doesn't really make sense to give everyone their own controls, does it? One might turn up one's own mix which has your own instrument to the fore, but that then bugger's up everyone else.

But the really sad thing is that I already knew it. Perhaps I should have posted it the the read the whole thread thread

And it was suposedly the 40th formula that they (Rocket Chemical Company) tried.

POssibly not the wobbly screw, but the rest of it? .... easy peasy.

Those are pretty well what I use at the moment, but they tend to stick to each other too much in the box of cables (talking PA cables here). Probably not problem if you have one or two instument bales in your Bass bag/case.
-
No, me neither. What sort of cable diameter range will they clip to? And congratulations to everybody who managed to decypher my original post!
-
What do you people think are the best cable wraps for holding cable rolls together? I've been using the velcro ones, which are great in that they stay attached to the cable itself, and also hold pretty well in use. The annoying thiig is how they keep sticking to themselves and others in the box when you dont want them to. I was looking at the rubber "Rapstrap" type things, but those don't seem to be permanently attachable to a cable. Any ideas/recommendations?

Steely Dan, aja, where's the good bit?

Unfortunately superb musicianship does not always make superb music. (Just a general comment, not on SD particularly). -

A pointless exercise - there is none. -
Covers band players. Nail it or close enough?
Count Bassy replied to krispn's topic in General Discussion
This as well. In many cases the original band would play it differently each time anyway. As I said above it keeps it organic and exciting. It's only when committed to a recording that songs become frozen. -

I voted 5. I tend to listen to the original(s) of a track and start from that, but then do my own thing in the same vein. Obviously there are exceptions where the punters expect a specific thing at a particular point in a song, but generally they don't give a stinky poo as long as they reckognise it. I very rarely play the same song the same way twice in a row anyway. Much more fun to vary it as you go along and see where it takes you. NOTE: all this is in the past tense as I'm currently dormant! -
Who influenced you to pick up and start playing Bass.

School trip to see Jesus Christ Superstar at the Palace theatre (1973/4 ish ??). Those first few bars of bass at the beginning just blew me away and made me want to play bass. Sadly it was 30 years or more before I did anything serious about it. -
Are we both married to the same woman?
-
Iggy Pop supporting the Foo Fighters at MK bowl several years go. Obviously a matter of taste, but IMHO he blew them out the water.

Is it actually the Class D technology itself that's the problem, or the way that they compress it to make it sound louder for the actual number of watts?

From my, admitedly limited, experience of modern SS amplifiers with Valve Pre-amps, the valve pre-amp has negligible effect on the tone. I currently have a Carvin BX something or other, but to be honest I can't tell the difference between the Valve in or by-passed. I've also read comments here and elsewhere about the Markbass Valve premps being "Very subtle". I'm comparing here with the wonderfull Marshall DBS system, or even their B150 Combo; both of these have blendable valve pre-amps that really make a difference, to the extent that it is actually useful to be able to blend between the two. Are there any modern SS amps out there where the Valve Preamp has a noticable/useful effect?
-
This. The song was released 65 years ago. Very political then, not really political or even controversial now - which is a good thing as it shows how much things have moved forward. However I still say the main reason not to play it is that it's dull.
