  1. Hello Peter, Saw you first playing with The Shortlist many many years ago, and then with Buddy not quite so many years ago at Wilbarston Village Hall (rather posh as village halls go). Special Kudos for building your own basses!
  2. As already said, break it down o twos & threes, or come up with a spoken phrase that gives the timing Eg: 7 = 2 + 2 + 3 = Gina Lollo-brigida. Obviously 7 also = 2 + 3 + 2, for which a different phrase is required.
  3. So when is he over next? Perhaps you could drop some hints in his direction.
  4. He said that they average about 8 pounds! 🙂
  5. Is that Pete Stroud?
  6. Buddy Whittington is pretty good.
  7. I saw the first minute of "Wild Mountain Thyme" (which is a lovely song) at the prom thing but had to go out somewhere. I consider that a lucky escape.
  8. I have a medium scale warwick rockbass corvette fiver which came with reds. However always a had a problem with fret buzz on the E_string only (so probably a duff string). Ended up going for blacks, predominately because the Medium scale reds are very hard to find on sale (Even the blacks had to come from Germany). Found that as well as sorting out the E String buzz the blacks allowed me to get a lower action all round. The blacks seem to have a finer outer winding, but both the reds and the blacks sound(ed) good to me.
  9. I think they have a narrower head than standard screws of the same thread size, so if you can't get the real thing you might need to find a screw that fits through the hole and then grind the head down so that it goes down as far as it should.
  10. I would jumps at this if I didn't already have one! For what it's worth to anyone considering it - I think they're great instruments.
  11. I refuse to use amazon for anything these days due to the appalling way they treat their employees.
  12. Looks OK to me, but not at that price.
  13. In theory a three bolt neck should be more stable in the same way as a three legged stool is (three points will always lie on a plane). - as long as there are no lumps in the wood work. BUt then again if there are no lumps in the wook work a 4,5, or 6 bolt set up should be perfectly adequate as well.
  14. We like both kinds of music here, Country and Western (Well someone had to say it.)
  15. Looks alright to me. No worse than a fender headstock.
  16. I thought that there was pretty conclusive evidence that a CD or uncompressed (file size wise rather than acoustically) digital format matches or exceeds vinyl in terms of reproduction fidelity. Compression in an acoustic sense is more a case of current (annoying) production practices rather than the medium used, and, as has already been mentioned, the RIAA standard for vinyl recordings includes compression and decompression of the bass anyway. Some people might prefer the sound of vinyl over CD etc, and it may indeed sound 'warmer' (I quite like vinyl myself), and this is perfectly valid, but to claim that it is a more accurate reproduction seems unfounded. The other thing with vinyl is that it inherently degrades every item you play it. It might sound wonderful the first time, by the 100th time it won't sound the same. Personally I am more interestinged in listening to the music rather than the quality of reproduction.
  17. Why, if I may be so bold?
  18. My worry is what you will find once the glue is out. I wouldn't be surprised to fins a stripped thread. Does superglue soften at all with heat - e.g. a soldering iron??
  19. or a band name?
  20. He gets around a bit considering he's meant to be in the basement.
  21. And he always so long at the fair.
  22. But good for your vitamin D.
  23. I love church organs for the bass, literally an earth moving experience. Unfortunately you really have to be there as any sensible loudspeaker/PA cannot do it justice.
