1. Using an LM3 at the moment, but the best amp? Marshall DBS7400. Weighs a ton, but superb tone. Valve/solid state blend that actually does something. 400W at two ohm, but with a peak of 4000w.
2. I have the Mp-BT1, and also the GTR1. Use the GTR1 mostly as it has additional features - notably recording! Also has rhythms etc., which can make practicing a lot more satisfying. The BT1 has a few more specialised bass features. Thankfully I'm not a great fan of effects, because the built in effects seem pretty horrible. Yes, all this stuff can be done on a PC, but why would you want that when a pocket sized unit will do it all for you? I would be without one.
3. The band I am currently in has a sax player that doubles up on piano. Generally plays Alto which is great, but when she gets the soprano out and starts "duelling" with lead guitar it sounds amazing. If the Sax player is a sax only then when not playing he/she could do what the singer does when not singing.
4.
To answer your question, if I heard of a local band playing the likes of Lizzie and AC/DC with a sax player.... I think I'd give it a miss.
Have you heard "Live & Dangerous"?
5.
Since then working on the Mk2 we've found that a single port gives a lot less port noise than a group of four with the same cross sectional area. I'm not keen on four corner ports for that reason, but it does help stiffen the cab. Balloon wrestling again.
One thing (possibly the only thing) I remember from my Physics degree is that at the same pressure doubling the diameter of a pipe will increase the flow by a factor of 16, not the 4 times that the actual area might suggest. So, although 4 ports of diameter X will have have the same area as a single port of diameter 2X, the flow through the single large port would would 16 times that of a single port at X, or 4 times the flow of 4 ports of the same total area.
6. Way too much musical snobbery on this site. Some really cracking songs been mentioned; Mustang Sally, Hoochie Coochie Man, Sweet home Alabama. All cracking songs that audiences love, yet people jump on the band wagon of slagging them off. Anyone here written a song that audiences will still be requesting 40 or 50 years? ...... .... No, I didn't thinks so.
7.
It's gonna hate w***el Rotary Engine, then.
But at least you can still sat 'Twat'
8.
Yes it was. A pity, because it's a good venue.
I think it changed hand a year or so ago didn't it, when it became rebranded as the "King Billy Rock Bar". My lad has played there numerous times, including since the change, but I don't think I've been there since (as a punter).
9. I guess that Rythm Stick must be in the running somewhere
10. Apologies if I'm being stupid, but unless playing in large venues, isn't the bass reflected around the room so much that the original speaker dispersion has very little effect?

Now you see, that just shows how deceptive a graph can be. A cording to that graph you had one FR800 the middle of last week, and one and a half FR800s a day or so after that! Did they deliver them to the doorstep and then slowly push them through the door over the next week?
12. Not yet, but just started the process. Had the preliminary hearing test last week and the results were quite a shock. So, nothing to offer as advice, but I will be watching others responses carefully.
13.
Ha. From the title I was thinking "How do you break a digital duck, and what platform was it fixed to." Just my analogue brain, I suppose.
Yeah. I was wondering if you couldn't just glue it back together.
14.
After many years i'm going to have to change the strings on my beloved Precision i hate new Bass strings, but they have been on a long time now and i have to take the plunge, hopefully i can deaden them asap just don't like the brightness of new strings, but on the upside at least once the deed is done i won't have to change them again for 5 or more years
As soon as that?!! You must have money to burn.
15. I saw 10cc live a few years ago and they were musically great. My only compalint was that they were so good and tight that I felt I might as well have listened to a CD. Don't get me wrong, I like good and tight, but the great thing about live music is that it can come out slightly differently every time, different solo's repeated verses, different banter etc. and I didn't get any of that with 10cc.
16. The singer has the Ozzy like tone, and is a great fit in that respect, but the pitching is a bit painful at times (quite a lot of the time actually). I don't know if singing lessons can correct poor pitch, but certainly worth a try. Or it could be that he just can't hear himself.
17. Again, all good points. Thanks. A very kind offer Grangur - may take you up on it at some point, although I might first ask around locally to see if anyone's got a warwick fretless.
18. I thought thought that the "Agent of change" principle had been adopted. Perhaps not.
19. Thanks for your thoughts people. Some very interesting points. I hadn't even thought of the fret-board material. Checked it out and the fretted is rosewood, the fretless is 'Tiger stripe' ebony. - I've only really played an Ibanez GWB35 extensively which is ebanol (i.e. plastic), so I don't actually know which I'd prefer sound wise Also I hadn't considered the side dots potentially being in the wrong place on the fretted one. I'm also guessing that if I went with the fretless then the nut would be set for a fretless, but this is Chinese made so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't (the nut set up was way too high on the fretted one when it arrived), so I might be leaning towards starting with the unlined fretless . Thanks again. Any further comments still gratefully received.
20. A slight tangent to the main subject, but I was briefly in a band with a Conga player (who was also the band 'leader'). He was quite a good player and because it was Congas he could wing it and play along to anything. The problem was that he couldn't understand that other members of the band actually had to take the time to learn and practice stuff. I didn't stay for long. PS " A wing and a prayer" seems a very appropriate phrase for this thread.
21. I have a Warwick Rockbass 32" Corvette 5 string fretted, which I really like (Will review at some point, honest). In fact I like it so much that I'd really like a lined fretless version as well. Warwick make an otherwise identical fretless version, but it's unlined. So, do I buy another fretted one and de-fret it and modify the nut etc, OR do I buy an unlined fretless one, and add the lines in myself? (positioning of the lines would not be any problem to me). Note that I do not want this to become a Lined Vs Unlined debate. I just want opinions on which approach would give me the best result. Thoughts/opinions please.
22.
"The vicar would like to invite you to join him for a cup of tea during the interval."
Brilliant!.
23. What about a DBS7412, only 60Kg (9.5 Stone)!!!
24.
Having seen him last night it seems it's a combination of severe carpal tunnel syndrome and a nerve problem, in both wrists and hands. His left hand is more effected, but his right hand is permanently very warm to touch. He's going to get a second opinion to see if it can be treated, if not cured.
AFAIK Carpel tunnel can 'generally' be fixed with an Op. My wife is a piano & Sax teacher, and had one hand done about 6 weeks ago. Apparently it can take a long time to recover, according to how severe it was. Hers was described as severe, but she was playing piano again within a week, and it is vastly vastly improved she said, although the area of the op itself is still a bit sensitive. Going for the other hand once this one is fully recovered. She did say that the initial anesthetic injection (local) was the most painful things she's ever experienced, but best not tell your guitarist that should he go that way. I guess it depends what the other nerve trouble is.
25. Can't imagine how I'd feel in that situation. Did he say what it actually was?
