New band; Sick/absent lead singer. Am I being too impatient?
Count Bassy replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
I sympathize with the OP's situation, but am struck by the absence of any sympathy in this thread for the singer who is not well, requiring at least one operation. The nice thing to do would be to give her a bit of breathing space. It's not like she's dicking you around. However, make it clear the here partner that he is not going to take over the lead role. Best wishes to her, even though I've no idea who she is. Best wishes to her, even though I've no idea who she is. -
They are both a bit pricey. You could get a proper one with 5 strings for less than that.

Blockheads - Tonight!!

Personally, for $13 I'd just buy one rather than spend time looking to a save a couple of dollars. Also: Are you sure you mean a momentary switch. This will change state only while you're holding it. If you want to push it in and it stay in then you want a 'stayput' switch, which you'd then pull out, or a toggling switch that will change state every time you press it.

Beer is water based, so I'd go with Phil's water suggestion. If you have any IPA (The alcohol not the beer!) then id' follow it up with a spray of that which will displace the water and evaporate quickly. Let it dry thoroughly, and you'll probably be OK. Water will not hurt the electronic components - companies that reclaim & resell old PCBs are known to put them in a domestic dishwasher as a first step to get all the muck off.
Definitely Ashdown
I wouldn't swear that they were Ampeg (when with Wilko), but they definitely were not those Ashdowns. Even I would have spotted those.
-
And, with Wilko, I thought the logo on the cabs looked like Ampeg, but I wouldn't swear to it.

Saw Norm with Wilko two weeks ago, and seeing him with the Blockheads in two weeks time. What a player. I just love the way he "attacks" the instrument. And, just to be controversial, he's worth 20 Jacos in my book.

Seven female bassists who helped shape modern music.

That was a joke/gentle tease, by the way -
I subscribed to She Shreds. Received a copy in January - great! Nothing since then. I'm beginning to wonder if they've gone out of business.
No, it's just that they've run out of female guitarists/bassists. -

I wonder how it would go down if someone launched a magazine that advertised the fact that it was specifically dedicated to male musicians? I suspect that there'd be a court case!! -
I have a DBS7400 amp and it's immense! 400 watts RMS but with a peak of 4Kw. It also sounds good superb in an easily controllable way, and the valve/SS pre-amp blending actually makes a difference (unlike, in my experiance,a lot of the modern valve pre-amp amplifiers). However, I also have an LM3 which sounds pretty good at a fraction of the weight.
We don't do it often, but when we do the singer invariably introduces me as "the best bass player in his price range".
Similar vein: one of the callers we use with the ceilidh band introduces us (and I guess most bands) as "the best of the cheap ones".

Roger Chapman. And for a speaking voice; Alistair Cook (not the cricketer, the other one)

In A Broken Dream - If you count it as a Python Lee Jackson song. Obviously not if you count it as a Rod Stewart song.

As a general rule you can multiply the LED wattage by 8 to 10 to get an idea of the equivalent GLS Watts (Standard filament bulb), so 30 watts LED would be like 240 - 300 Watts of standard bulb. However the technology is moving quickly. Ifyou buy new current units you might get better than this. If you buy second hand and over 5 or so years old probably somewhat less.
Ah..! Innovation time..! Just before sealing up the cab, how about leaving inside it a cubic centimetre of solidified helium (very low temperature required, I know, but read on...). Once hermetically sealed, the ambient temperature would cause the block of helium to melt, then evaporate, thus filling the cab with helium gas..! For a lighter still build, just double up on the helium blocks..! Then the cabs would truly become lighter, no..? No, no, don't thank me; it's enough reward to think that I've helped so many deserving folks. Well, OK then, but only small monetary donations, please; by Paypal 'gift'. Cheers.
But if it's hermetically sealed won't the helium turning to gas blow the cone out? Mid you I guess that would still make it lighter. Attaching helium balloons (available from all good street vendors) might be a better alternative. Just remember not to tie the balloons to the handles!

Great shame if they're not breaking up.

"Classic" songs that are used for adverts
I liked the country & western version of Ace of Spades that Lemmy did in an ad.
I liked it too, but I'd hardly call it Country & Western! My own choice would be When Bank's used "Bad to the Bone" for one of their ads. Unfortunately it seems it was the only decent thing George Thorogood ever did. -
I had not heard of the Doobie brothers until I cam home from the pub and Whistle test had some film of the Doobies (Eyes of silver I think, and something else) - Vices had just been released, and I went all the way to Shrewsbury (23 miles) to buy it the next day. Which is the only time I've done something like that. Cracking band.
