Recommendations for a light, slim neck 5 string please?
Count Bassy replied to lastanthem88's topic in General Discussion
Which is the better of the two count bassy? Both string spacing the same? Are you saying for some people it might be a bit tight?
Yes, same string spacing. The main difference between the colour of the body. The 505 being a mahogany sort of colour and the 605 being a lighter Ash sort od colour. I only bought the 605 because A: I liked the body colour and, B: It was cheap!. (Bought both second hand). The 605 was also a slightly later version so included slightly different electronics, with a Mid Band switch (200Hz or 600Hz I think). Sound wise, to me the 605 is a little less bright, which suits me just fine. Whether this is the wood or the electronics I don't know, but both have the same strings. Re the brightness, they both had round wounds when I bought them, and I ended up playing with the treble backed right off. Fitted Status half rounds to both, and love it/them. Also, on the string spacing it's really just a matter of taste. I like the narrow spacing, and on a five string it stops the neck looking like an ironing board, but I know that other here prefer the more conventional (these days) 18 - 19mm. -

She's one of those people that I could never understand how they got the acclaim that they did, or why they are still discussed today. Similar to Morrisey in that respect. Only my opinion of course.

Recommendations for a light, slim neck 5 string please?

Another Ibanez SR fan here. I only have a 505 & a 605, so fairly modest instruments, but still brilliant. Would fit your spec and price range perfectly, but aware that the string spacing (on my two at least) is around 16.5mm (this is an extra plus for me, but not everybody's cup of tea). -
Lovely voice.

super fine Wire Wool? It will mold itself around the contours better than Sandpaper/wet&dry. -
I think the person who's friend it is should waive their fee for the gig and the others should get their normal rate. This way, the customer gets their discount and the other band members get paid. In my opinion, if you didn't want to play for free for a mate of yours then he can't be a very good mate.
You beat me to it, I was going to say, "Surely it depends on how good a mate it is?". With our ceilidh (Barn Dance) band we generally work on our standard fee. If a member or members decide to waive the fee for a mate or a charity, then we subtract that from what we ask the customer. For some events with common interest then we can end up doing for free, or just charge for the caller (Not technically part of the band). We recently did a dance in the village and raised £750 for an MS charity. We all waived our fee as the sousaphone players wife has MS. If we hadn't done it for nothing then we'd only have raised £350. Personally I'm quite happy that the whole band fee (normally £400-ish) went to the charity instead.
Would you prefer it if the name of your instruments wasn't named after Stuart Hamm? But you are probably right, Fender probably would not have made this instrument if it wasn't for Stuart Hamm... but I'd be with you - my interest in these basses has been down to their specifications rather than the name attached to it. In fact, one of the reasons I haven't bought a Kingbass is because I don't want to be in that pool where people assume I play a certain way because of the bass that I use...
The five string 32" Kingbass would be one I aspire to as well. Fortunately far too expensive for me to justify. On the Urge, yes I probably would have preferred it without the Stu Hamm name attached. Thankfully the only thing that identifies it as a 'signature' model is a fairly discreet signature on the end of the head, and (so far) I've managed to resist taking the sander/spray can to it. And, yes, with any nice gear there is always the problem that it raises peoples expectations as to the quality of what you do, and with signatures there tends to be an expectation of style as well (at least to other bassists - Punters generally don't have a clue, and care even less). Needless to say, anyone who see's my gear and has expectations will be sorely disappointed!
Maybe to some, maybe not to others, but I don't think I am. One is entitled to feel how one feels.
Of course, and you had the advantage of hearing the blokes tone, which obviously affects how the words are interpreted.
i use a tascam dr-2d and it records the practices pretty well. i find its all about the location
Definitely this in my experience. I use the Tascam GTR01, and the actual sound quality is great. Getting it in a good position to pick every thing up evenly can be quite difficult though, especially in a small room. In a larger room (e.g. village hall), I just put it at the back of the room and it's been great. -
Are you sure you're not over reacting a bit? Obviously it's the wrong cab and not suitable for what you want, and needs to be replaced or refunded with them paying carriage. But: As I read your first post it seemed to me that the chap was actually trying to be helpful. He didn't know how much you knew about these things, and in other circumstances, ie someone else, with a different head, they might have been quite happy to keep the 4 ohm cab.

Not read the whole thread, so probabbly already said: Although a 'signature' wouldn't make me want to buy a model for that reason it does mean that there is a wider variation of models out there to choose from. I had never heard of Stu Hamm untill I waws researching medium/short scale basses, but ended up with a Fender Stu Hamm Urge (Mk1) anyway. Not because of the name, but because of the combination of features it offered, in particular it being a top quality 32", 24 fret. Would Fender have made this without some sort of endorsement? Who knows?
Cash Converters used to be the first place plod looked for nicked gear - I presume they've cleaned their act up since.
More likely that Plod don't bother to look anymore.
i am not bothered about the singer taking over, so long as I remain on the Bass. Us original members could have continued to fart around once a month and achieve nothing, I know the drummer is up for more and so am I - she is giving us a shove in the right direction. Her reply to our add on Join my Band indicated that she had been intending to put her own band together, I had a fair idea given her previous experience something like this was possible. The situation with the sax player was more troubling to me as I didn't want to see him treated badly - I think I have sorted that. It will be interesting to see what happens.. I have a list of 20 tracks I need to get sorted by the 10th.. Happy Christmas!
They came for the sax player and I said nothing because I wasn't a sax player... Then they came for......... You get the idea.
Looks like your new singer has decided you're getting a new sax player and will come up with a set list. Who will she out next? Just saying
This, sounds like the start of a take over bid. Be careful.

Role of the bass player in a one-guitar band?
Count Bassy replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
And that's the point a lot of 2 guitar bands miss. The good 2 guitar bands build a sound where the 2 complement each other, harmonise etc. If you listen to classic Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash and even Quo the 2 guitars are often playing different things. As you say, 2 guys chugging away on the same thing in the same time quickly turns to mush.
Pretty much what I was going to say, especially re Wishbone Ash. -
the drummer thought he was Animal, from the Muppets,
Nothing wrong with that! Animal is my favourite drummer of all time.
