1.
I'd imagine they are for sale because they hold value well so anyone who has one but wants to free up some cash can do so knowing they're likely to get a good price. I tried one once and thought it was fantastic. Sadly I didn't and still don't have the funds.
The one on Ebay is at a BIN of £1000. I believe the list price was £1600, so not holding value that well for something that's been out less than a year.
2. Ah well, I blame it on my age. I basically sadi that this is one of my favourite songs, but that this is not my favourite version of it.
3. What happened to my earlier comment??
4.
As extreme example, try listening to 78 rpm or shellac disks; the original sound was not like that. Was the gear better then..? No, but it was different. A good, old, amp from the '70s still sounds great, if playing in the '70s style.
Reminds me of a radio program I heard years (at least 18) ago. It was about the development of sound reproduction, and 'they' were saying that when 78s first came out the masses genuinely thought that the repduction was absolutely life-like, and couldn't get any better.
5. "Making Bacon" by the Pork Dukes. Used to be very poular with (some of) the Morris team at the time. Actually I withdraw that nomination. It has no artistic merit at all!
6. As long as you'reusing an appropriate gauge cable (e.g. 2 x 2.5 or 2 x 4) the make will make very little difference to the sound quality, though it might affect reliability.
7. So actually he was right. You were out of tune, albeit intentionally.
8.
What Time Is It? EDIT: It's 4:30. Sorted.
Does anybody really know what time it is?
9.
Not keen on that top handle.
An improvement over some (allegedly)
10.
] Good luck with the restauration!
Yes, He'll certainly need a good meal before starting on this. (Sorry)
11.
There are some who would suggest that flow chart should be considerably simpler and with one fewer outcome.
I quite agree. You should always play Mustang Sally.
12. Hey people. I've not been here much lately due to starting a new job, so have only just seen some of the comments my quip inspired. Apologies if it upset anybody, but I honestly can't see why it would have. There was no disrespect and no reference to her character, behaviour, or anything - simply a play on words/rhyme between one of her famous songs and how she died. OK you might not have found it funny (it made me chuckle), but I don't accept that it was in any way disrespectful. Nothing like the jokes about Michael Jackson, Jimmy Saville etc. that did the rounds when they died (and remember that it was some time after JS died that all the horror stories came out). On a wider note I believe that, when it comes to humour, nothing should be sacrosanct.
13.
I thought that's what I said: "the peak-to-peak voltage of a sine wave is 1.414 times its RMS value, hence its peak-to-peak power is twice its RMS power" Power = V^2 / R
Best not mention the power factor !!. Ooops - just did.
14. "Slipped and died love" ?
15. This one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r91LsW--Prk Not only did it stop me breathing, it started me on a life time of following this band and its successors, and it still sends a shiver down my spine to this day - especially when heard live.
16. He might or might not know what he's talking about, but he certainly can't draw a sine wave!
17.
I've heard of people putting nail varnish in there to do the same job. Not sure I'd glue stuff though, and I'd definately not Loctite® it unless I absolutely, never, unequivocally didn't want it to move again. Ever.
Depends on the grade of locktite. (we're talking, nut-lock/stud-lock varieties here, not "Superglue").
18. Far prefer the first two, ie without the looping/multi-tracking.
19.
Cool info - I've only ever seen the 3 pickup version of this, and never knew they did a medium scale version.
Yes, the Mk1 was 32" scale, the mex one having 2 pickups, the US one 3 pickups (as above). The Mk2 was 34" and (afaik) was only available in the US version.
20. Depends what you mean by "Greatest". Personally I'd say that to be greatest you have to have been around for a while, to show some enduring qualities, a t prove that you're not a flash in the Pan. Will anyone remember Kayne West in 20 years? I suspect not. It's like the old Radio One best ever single thing. I can remember when Bros came "top", Bohemian Rhaphsody second. A few years later Bohemian Rhapsody was still there, but no one knew who "Bros" had been.
21.
Kanye v Freddie
Just Brilliant.
22. Rather late, but bought an LMIII of Matt earlier this year, and everything went spiffingly.
23. Bought a Roland Cube 100 off Richard. Very easy transaction & a lovely chap. Would deal with him again any time.
24. I have both a US and a Mexican Urge Mk 1. Both very nice basses, but the US one has more/different features: Extra (P) pick up, different electronics (Kibuchi?), passive/active switch. Microtilt, colour matched head, smaller head & compact enclosed tuners (Gotoh style), string through body. The Mex (unmodified & same colour as this one) was around £320 without a case, so the price being asked for this one (£400) may not be far off, depending on if you like the mods or not. However with the shipping and import costs definitely too much to consider form the UK (IMHO).
