I'm REALLY curious to know how it would work out strung conventionally B-G. Would make a super comfy, easy to play 5er I think......
Me too.

Mini pots - what's that all about?
Count Bassy replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Repairs and Technical
Guitar pots are nothing special, just standard electronic components made by dozens of manufacturers.
+1 on this. There seems to be an obsession with CTS pots, and I'm that they're fine, but then so are many others (Bourne, Vishay etc) -
Has he changed the battery? I had a problem with my GWB35 and tried everything, including the battery connector, but it turned out that there was an internal fault in the (Duracell) battery. It was really really sensitive and unplugging and re plugging the jack socket was often enough to make it go again - for 10 minutes or so. However when that went on and off it did so with a big pop, but I guess that that will depend on the pre-amp design.
Define what you want out of a band experience at this point in your life and then decide if what you want is realistic. I have a buddy that will only play music he personally likes which is obscure by most standards. He doesn't understand that because of his requirement he will never find himself in any kind of gigging band. Blue
Thanks for the thoughts Blue (And everybody). What I want from a band at my time of life (58) is to be out gigging in pubs 2 or 3 times a month, and having fun. I am not a great or flashy bass player, but think I am solid enough for that to be realistic. However I have no illusions that it will ever be more than that. On your second point: This was the original problem, the singer wanted to do stuff that he liked (fair enough), but it was mostly pretty obscure. The rest of us also wanted to do stuff we we liked, but that your average pub audience would know and enjoy (mostly classic rock and bluesey stuff). (And before anyone asks that did include a few cheesy ones). Also, to make it clear, the guitarist and drummer both had very valid reasons for not wanting to carry on, e.g. pressure of work. Also they both work for the county music service and felt they needed to concentrate on that. Can't help but think that if it weren't for the singer creating tension it would still be going though.

Depends what the tweeter is. Piezo tweeters, because of the incredibly high impedance, are easy to control with a pot and a limiting resistor. If its a coil driven tweeter at 8 Ohms or so then yes, you need an I-pad.

HMRC investigating 'traders' on eBay etc.
Count Bassy replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Income tax is only applicable to profits, so unless you really are a regular trader, as in you buy things to sell on at a profit, you should be OK. -
Be very careful with nail polish remove - it can damage/dissolve many plastics. Try some of the orange smelling label remover - it'll have those bits off in no time.

The Band has had bit of niggling discontent for a while, mainly to do with choice of material, and mainly in the sense of guitar, bass drums & sax versus the singer. Anyway we arranged a meeting so that we could discuss this and agree on songs we we all happy with, or at least could play without moaning about it every time. Then about 4 hours before the meeting the guitarist and the drummer sent us all a text saying that they did not want to carry on with the band at all. So, from expecting an awkward meeting with the worse scenario being having to look for a new singer, it went to a relatively relaxed social meeting (because there was very little left to discuss), but with no band at the end of it. The plus side is that we didn't fall out over it, the downside is that there is no longer a band, and it's left me with a real hole in my life, and I'm feeling it quite badly as the band was my only real musical outlet. Apart from having no practices or gigs to look forward to it just seems such a shame that all that work has gone into the band was for nothing. Just needed to share.

You do know that some amps go to 11?

Class D Active Full-Range PA Speaker for Bass
Well it looks like a nice bit of kit for the money, however buried in the spec sheet is the statement "Power consumption max 110 W" which doesnt fill me with confidence,
Slightly off topic, but the Roland Bass cube 100 is like this - a "100 watt" combo that only draws 60VA from the mains. Seems the worlds energy crisis is solved! -
Lack of bass support in music shops.
Count Bassy replied to ianrendall's topic in General Discussion
Bass is a minority interest compared to guitars, and with a lot of people buying on line anyway why would they bother to stock much? I can totally understand why this is happening. -
Maybe I'm reading a different thread. The first page is full of people wanting the driver hung drawn and quartered.
Not me necessarily, and I'm very sympathetic about the terms and contracts that many of these people have to work by, BUT, I'd be very surprised if his contract said that he should sign it himself and throw it over a fence. Would the driver have known that was a relatively robust bass guitar, rather than say, a mirror? If it was a first offence than perhaps give him warning or suspension, but for all we know this could have been one of many complaints. We have assumed that the driver is a hard working oppressed worker doing the best he can, but for all we know he might just be an ignorant twat!. The OP did not demand the man's head (or job) on a plate: That decision was made by parcel Force. All the OP did was to complain about bad service, which was absolutely the right thing to do. By contrast you seem to suggest that if you pay for a service and don't get what you paid for then you should just not say anything about it, which sounds like a recipe for perpetual bad service to me.
-
I just don't get the s**t that's been thrown at the OP for daring to complain that an item he had ordered and paid postage to be delivered signed for was dumped into his garden overs gate, left to the elements and his signature fraudulently applied to say he had received it. The comparison is in both cases someone did something wrong, and the company they work for decided to let them go. The OP didn't ask for him to be sacked, that was the decision of his employer. Must have come under gross misconduct. So any time someone providing a service does something monumentally wrong we should put up and shut up? Total b***s.
+1 from me.

Well with the new pictures you can see that the one in poole has distinct lack of paint around one of the Knobs. No wonder he used the other ones.

Songs You Really Don't Like Playing?
Count Bassy replied to yorks5stringer's topic in General Discussion
We currently have Are You Gonna Go My Way (Lenny Kravitz) which I dont mind as a song but really dont like playing.
Love the song and love playing it. The current band does "Shape of Things" in a Badlands Style, which I don't enjoy playing at all. -
Not a great fan of slap, but that was actually quite tasteful.

The problem is that there is so much money in this sort of development that the odd ten grand here and there to the planning committee barely registers.
