1.
I must say, I am slightly jealous of all the players who can choose which " good " songs to play.If we played the songs we liked, we would get hauled off and never get another booking. I was told years ago, you have to play what the people want to hear. We ignored this advice and played songs we liked. Over the years we gradually learned which songs to drop and which went down well. It's amazing, the rubbish that people want to hear again and again, especially at functions. What we have to remember is, some of these people don't get out much and don't have the " pleasure" of hearing these songs over and over and over, so they demand brown eyed girl and they dance to it and we have to put up with it.
And "well said" again.
 2.
Why? Because I have an option that differes from others in this thread. Is it only bass players that have this high and mighty attitude I wonder? I understand some people hate certain songs, I have no issue with that, but why do some make blanket statements that something someone else likes is crap? What gives certain people the feeling that they know better than others? If these songs weren't so popular we wouldn't have to play them. But then the general public are idiots and have no idea what they should like aren't? No having a go at you personally, it just gets my goat when I'm told by someone better than me that what I like is wrong ;-)
Well said. Songs that are still going after 30 or 40 years are still going for a reason! Cover band audiences generally want to hear the stuff they know and like. If you don't give them that then you won't be getting many repeat bookings.
 3. Cosmos Factory: Creedence Clearwater Revival There are others of course, but I'll stick to the one for now.
 4. Personally, as you've fitted a string tree and it works, I would leave the headstock well alone.
 5. I've got a BX700, which I bought here second hand. I've since bought a MarkBass LMIII (also second hand from here), which I far prefer. I put a review of the BX700 in the reviews forum, but briefly: Pretty loud, masses of tonal options, built in compressor, BUT I still struggled to get a sound I was happy with out of it - and the valve preamp makes (to my ear) no discernible difference. YMMV. By contrast the LMIII has more limited controls (and no compressor) but, with everything pretty flat, sounds just right to me. (both amps running into a Vanderkley 112MNT) Hope this helps.
 6.
Same here. I rarely play the same thing twice. Can't stand it.
Me too. I go with a theme, but very rarely play the same thing twice. I think it got me sacked from one band.
 7.
Fun to play but we couldn't get the combination down to less than 7 minutes so it did tend to send people to the bar on occasion
Very much depends on the audience, and how different the inserted song(s) is
 8. I wonder what its handles are like?
 9.
And yes I hate that bloody kid in the first video, too much young to have more talent than me.
Really?? I know he's young, but he didn't impress me. Seemed like he was reproducing the fingering a bit mechanically, with very little musicality, I thought. Mind you I'd go completely to pieces if I were put in that situation!
 10.
The B-Social for me, as everyone else has said, is overpriced,
I didn't !!
 11. The label printer and the clear heat shrink for me, complete with phone number! Then coloured cable ties at both ends to identify individual cables.
 12.
Yup - I've done the same (but with a needle file). It's a right pain because the head size of the design is definitely not standard in these parts...
Angle Grinder here.
 13. IF you're going to do it regularly then go for carbide/carbide tipped on. They last a lot longer.
 14. Sounds like a dry joint to me. Probably an easy fix. Could be anywhere, but I'd look around heat generating devices first, eg rectifiers, power resistors.
 15.
You're right, of course. So in the interests of fairness and parity, I list the following songs: If your band covers them, it's minus ten points; if you WANT to cover them, it's minus twenty points; and if you do five of them (or more) in your set, it's PLUS a million points... Free Bird More Than A Feeling Daddy Cool Sweet Child 'O Mine Start Me Up Down Down Money For Nothing Summer Of '69 We Will Rock You Radar Love... and... Mustang Sally.
Well a mixture here: We do Mustang Sally. The singer hates it as he thinks it's beneath him (but the audience love it). On the other hand the singer wants to do Sweet Child Of Mine, which we've just started learning, but I think its a bit dull. On the other other hand, I definitely want to do Radar Love. To be honest I don't quite understand why it's on the list - IME you hardly ever hear it being played in pubs (possibly because it's not straight forward) And on the other other other hand the saxophonist/pianist wants to do Free Bird which I also really like and again, round here at least, rarely gets played these days (20 years ago, yes).
 16.
No, the professional would be adjusting their music stand......
Good point!
 17.
I honestly still think 4 speakers 2 bass and 2 full range would of been more practical (probably would work better too), cheaper because you could of then used off the shelf speakers!. Less development time (2 years developing the speaker).
So where would you put the two extra speakers?
 18. Dear Ashdown man, While I wouldn't suggest that any company ignore the views of it's customers/potential customers, I suggest that you do not pay too much attention to those who haven't actually tried them! Basschat has many good things going for it, but some members seem to have no problem slagging stuff off that they haven't tried or heard (it's not just Ashdown). When you add up the features the £600 doesn't seem so unreasonable (cheapest wireless system I can see on the net is £60 on its own), however it is an amount that not many people are in a position to spend on a whim, so you need to get these out there where people can try them and then make a decision based on having tried one. If I saw one in a shop I'd certainly try one out. The only valid (IMHO) concern expressed, which you can judge from a photo, is the lack of protection for the speaker cones. If it performs as well as you say then, at 75 Watts, this could end up being used for small/acoustic gigs, and those cones look a bit vulnerable for that (to me).
 19. I guess the "professional" answer would be "Counting"
 20. Why all the negativity for All Right Now? To repeat what I said in an earlier post, crowds still love it 45 years. Surely that says something? I can't help suspecting that there is a bit of musical snobbery going on here i.e: "It's a successful song that people like, therefore it must be naff, and quite definitely below me. I'm so much more sophisticated than that". If you're playing at home then fine, but if you're playing out in a (non tribute) covers band, then you need to play what people want to hear - and an awful lot of people want to hear All Right Now, Mustang Sally, Johhny B. Goode etc. Personally I'd have been quite happy to have written any of those three examples.
 21. Before you sell consider putting half rounds on it! I found mine too modern sounding (a bit of a funk machine) but Status half rounds transformed it into a very flexible bass, which sounds just great for Blues.
 22.
Vanderkley 15 MN6 and Vanderkley 2x10 MNT
Ah, That explains it!
 23.
or for a bit more (but does ethernet cables too): http://www.soundonso...able-tester.htm
And 5 pin XLRs.
 24.
But it's a great number! I'll grant you, it's very overplayed and mostly played very badly (and usually the wrong riff) by average guitarists and drummers who don't understand how to groove rather than thrash. It's such an easy number to get right that it's disappointing to see so many bands get it wrong. The point for the bass isn't to fill up the gaps, but to leave it alone. The number's about groove, big dynamics and a good sing along. Just play it properly and all the pieces fall into place.
This!! Still loved by audiences around the world 45 years after it was released!! Can't argue with that. Up there with the greats like Johhny B Goode and Mustang Sally. The band is there to entertain the audience, no time to get snobby about "It's too common" etc. And on the original question: Nothing in the first two verses, but put in quite a heavy groove in the third and to the end. Gives a bit of a lift lift towards the end.
 25. "Darling, I think it's time you had some new shoes" works for me.
