Some power amps use a single Speakon for both normal and bridged mode (standard using 1+ to 1-, and bridged using 1+ to 2- (or another variation) If you got hold of a lead wired for that configuration it could explain it - if 1+/2+ and 1-/2/ are wired in parallel at either the amp or the speaker (but not both). Let us know what you find.

[/quote] Well yes, a three point contact will not wobble, but for the same radius will push over more easily than a 4 point contact, if you try try to pushing towards two legs rather than one. Similarly 5 is much than 4, which is why almost all "rolly" chairs have 5 legs these days. Obviously with a bass on a stand the centre of gravity is more predictable, so a tripod should be fine, but four points would still be better.

  7. The thing is that all this style of strap lock are mechanical, so need some maintenance. The instructions with the Dunlop ones recommend a drop of oil once in a while.
  8. The weight thing is the problem. Light weight tends to mean relatively new and expensive. If it weren't for that I'd suggest a Marshall B150 combo (150 watts, 15" speaker). A heavy and big beast, but a monster sound as well, with a valve pre-amp, & lots of tone possibilities. You should get a S/H one of those for around £150. And if you just want an amp then an older Marshall might also do. Again, it will be heavy, but Marshall are rather frowned upon in bass circles (for no good reason in my opinion), and so may be picked up well within your budget.

  12. To be clear, I have never owned or played through a barefaced Cab, so can't comment on the cabs themselves. However, it seems to me that when Alex started he was a single man UK operation building cabs, first for himself and then for others. Further more he was a Basschatter. I suspect that consequently he was given a fairly easy ride by Basschat in those early days other than (IIRC) the aesthetics/finish. He was a 'quirky' (in a good way) small builder that people seem to love.[size=4] Is it possible that they are suffering a bit of a (subconscious) backlash against the easy ride of the early days?[/size] Alex/Barefaced are now an established company going up against, and being compared with, the likes of Vanderkley, Bergantino etc. Alex should take this as a compliment, but it does mean that the quality, in all respects, now has to measure up against those competitors.[size=4] To quote that famous Fanny Craddock line (the one that finished her TV Career): "You're among professionals now, dear". I'm pretty sure that Alex is listening to the comments, hopefully objectively, and making improvements were he can, as should all companies. If not then Barefaced will be short lived.[/size] In short I don't think that Barefaced are being treated unfairly, they are just being treated as any other company. [size=4]PS: No one seems to complain whee Behringer get repeatedly slagged off on these pages, often by people with out personal experience.[/size]

Personally I would have no problem lending it, particularly in the circumstances of the other persons kit failing. I agree it would be annoying if someone just turned up assuming that they could borrow a bass, and I guess I'd have reservations if it was someone who was pissed, or just didn't seem to know what they were doing with it. I would (and have) lent those to someone (Melodeons are pretty robust anyway). The problem hasn't really arisen with the anglo as they tend to be very individual (in terms of button spacing, spring pressures, even the layout of the notes, etc), and so don't really get [size=4]borrowed. (I only mention this to indicate that, for me it's not to do with the value)[/size] [size=4]Rig as well really: If your rig is properly spec'ed and put together then it should be bomb proof.[/size] And as for a backup bass. How many people here actually take a backup bass to a gig?[size=3](A serious question - not rhetorical). [/size][size=4]I never have, and have never had a catastrophic failure. Perhaps I need to reconsider this.[/size]

Gary Twig has the 7400/ 7412 combination and it sounds brilliant, but then I guess he's got Roadies!

  17. I have a DBS400 and it's brilliant in every way except the weight. Have just bought Karlfer's Carvin BX700 to try out as a light weight alternative. Trying it out tonight - time will tell. But it would have to be exceptional for me to move the DBS on. I hadn't realised that Marshall had dropped their bass range. It seems a shame to me. Are any of them continuing but with an Eden" badge, or are they completely dropped? No doubt original Marshalls will now become collectors items! PS, why does the site spell checker work on American English - can I change this? PPS: Just visited the "New Improved" Marshall web site and it is crap compared to what it used to be! PPPS: Time for Blackstar to venture into bass perhaps??

  21. Seems a shame that the collected brains of Basschat see fit to slag this off without anyone (apparently) having actually tried it!! I haven't, but as my left right hand technique is probably my weakest point (one of many weak points), and I spend quite a time in hotels, I would be prepared to give it a go before I condemned it. As well as technique could also be useful just to keep the finger tips in trim. If they did a 7 fret version it would also be useful for practising scale shapes over two octaves. Having said that, for travelling in the UK, a 5 string short scale headless "cricket bat" would probably be more use in the UK. For travelling that includes flying I could see it being useful. Mind you: 74 Euros !
  22. Brilliant instruments in my opinion. Bought a GWB35 (fretless) first, then a 505 as it seemed the closest thing to a fretted GWB35, then a 605 purely because I prefer the look of the lighter body. Still got all three!
  23. Went to see RC and the Shortlist at the the Robin 2 last night. Now, I know that I am biased, but I've still got to say that, even by his standards, the gig was absolutely brilliant. Was anyone else there?
