I would. Seriously. Cars are a very good example of how mass production using high precision machinery can create far higher and consistent quality goods than anything hand made.
And yet some people go on about their hand built basses are, and sneer at CNC machine produced basses, when the CNC machine will work to far higher tolerances than a man ever could.
Dead right! As rules go, this is as bad as they get. It only works if you're looking at the head of the screw. I'd guess most of us know which way to turn a screw to tighten it, so all you have to remember is that you're tightening something that counteracts string tension.
And only if you're looking at the top of the screw!. When I last checked making the top of the screw go to the left (ie counterclockwise) makes the bottom of the screw go to the right (i.e. still counter clockwise) At the the end of the day its a standard (I.e. right hand) screw thread, you shouldn't need a rhyme to remember it. -
The strings are pink too, so I'm guessing it's a set of these; http://www.ebay.co.u...S-/111267838991
Ah. Most of the (serious) ones I've seen seem to be around £100 a set! Actually at 99p it would be well worth it for fire wood!

I think its probably a form of Plasma Coating, in which case the coating will be far more tightly bonded to the metal than any conventional spraying technique would achieve. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Owning a bass thats never gets played.
Count Bassy replied to paulbass's topic in General Discussion
What I was trying to say was: I have six basses used as follows Ibanez SR605 95% Ibanez GWB35 4% Ibanez SR505 Fender Urge Mk1 (US) Fender Urge Mk1 (Mex) Westone Quantum Home Build (40 years ago) About 1% between them, if that (OK, so it's actually seven).. Some have not been picked up in the last year. Since I now play 5 strings all the time I guess the two Urges and the Quantum could go, and the SR605 has replaced the 505 (I prefer the colour) so i guess the 505 could also go. However the USA urge is a beautiful piece of work (as is the mex really), so I'd be reluctant to sell it, and nobody would want the home build, so really I could be selling three and keeping four On the other hand, I quite fancy an acoustic five string around the house to pick up and pluck away at! -

At 99p a bargain for the strings and the tuners alone (if real double bass strings).

ok, where have I seen that headstock design before?

Tyler? Edited: No it's not. -
I've had the same effect in the past, certain notes at certain volumes made me feel like I'm going to pass out with a sort of "Whoah, where did that come from". It seems to have gone away on its own though. Perhaps I'm just playing more quietly these days.
Another vote for a problem with the house wiring - I'd get an electrican in to have a look. In a house I used to live in there was about a similar effect when I touched the strngs on my bass. Turns out there was ~30v potential between the strings of the bass and the earth on the amp as the pedals were plugged into sockets on side of the room and the amp into the other side. Bear in mind that the casing of i-devices can float around true earth as well as (as far as I understand it) swicthed-mode PSUs have no galvanic connection to grounded earth. My wife says she can feel the PD from her ipad if she's reading and touches another earth as a tingle.
Yep I had this with my Dell Latitude, and the Net was full of complaints about it. Of course Dell insisted that it wasn't a problem and refused to do anything. I bought a replacement PSU of the net (with Earth) and the problem disappeared.

Look at the Fender Urge Mk 1 (assuming second hand is OK) Mex and US versions. Both very nice basses. I also have a Westone Quantum which is also a very nice bass, but again only 4 strings. Unfortunately only ever available as a 4 string and I've moved onto fivers, so back on 34" scale.
I keep trying to persuade our band to do the FFDP version of Bad Company, they really do some good covers IMHO. Cheers, Rich
Me too (our band, not your band). -
Oh dear. Really really one of the greats. RIP.

Speakon cables wrong way around or not?
Count Bassy replied to chrisanthony1211's topic in Amps and Cabs
Some power amps use a single Speakon for both normal and bridged mode (standard using 1+ to 1-, and bridged using 1+ to 2- (or another variation) If you got hold of a lead wired for that configuration it could explain it - if 1+/2+ and 1-/2/ are wired in parallel at either the amp or the speaker (but not both). Let us know what you find. -
Do not use threaded inserts. There's no give in the cf to allow it. Cf does not behave like wood in the slightest. You'll end up hashing it up and shattering all the polyester finish. The cf is rock solid and the screws will be enough to hold it - although I was never convinced it was a good idea. The screws literally go through the 7mm of so and then into a void. I always thought at least a block of wood in there would have been nice.
I'm curious as to why a thread insert would cause a problem, but a wood screw wouldn't.
Actually a well-designed tripod is more stable, once you introduce a 4th point of contact all of them have to level in order for the stand not to wobble.
Well yes, a three point contact will not wobble, but for the same radius will push over more easily than a 4 point contact, if you try try to pushing towards two legs rather than one. Similarly 5 is much than 4, which is why almost all "rolly" chairs have 5 legs these days. Obviously with a bass on a stand the centre of gravity is more predictable, so a tripod should be fine, but four points would still be better.

What a sound. Love it.

The thing is that all this style of strap lock are mechanical, so need some maintenance. The instructions with the Dunlop ones recommend a drop of oil once in a while.
-
The weight thing is the problem. Light weight tends to mean relatively new and expensive. If it weren't for that I'd suggest a Marshall B150 combo (150 watts, 15" speaker). A heavy and big beast, but a monster sound as well, with a valve pre-amp, & lots of tone possibilities. You should get a S/H one of those for around £150. And if you just want an amp then an older Marshall might also do. Again, it will be heavy, but Marshall are rather frowned upon in bass circles (for no good reason in my opinion), and so may be picked up well within your budget.
It may sound fickle, but the reality is that it doesn't matter how good a cab sounds - if it looks cheaper than the alternatives then it's always going to attract criticism.
On the positive side of this: It may attract criticism, but possibly fewer thieves!! Perhaps shoddy finishes should be re-marketed as "Thief Repelling". (not saying that Barefaced are shoddy - I've never seen one.

One Piece Maple Neck - But No Skunk Stripe!
