Medium Scale Jazz Build..... a what now??
PaulThePlug replied to Bridgehouse's topic in Build Diaries
I"m colour blind... Match is close enough, specially as they are not going to be bang on next to each other... That body, nice bit of wood, but didn't realise from the original pics how much of a edge contour, almost to Ibanez proportion... realy realy nice, much lighter looking and more modern take on a classic. Neck looks nice... have you considered a matching contour around the headstock, front and back after the risers from the nut... alowing for the tuner bodies and ferrels... soften the look and make it more unique, especually being short scale n all... What are you gonna refinish the table in 😉 -
Ask (insist) that Ampeg accept it for examination and request replacement... Send em a link to this thread...

Pilot hole of the correct size n depth... Candle wax or Dry soap bar for lube... Bit of plastic bag between scredriver tip n screw to protect screw head finish if black I always run the screw in and out the hole to thread the wood before mounting a component...

Filling out the sound with no rhythm guitar
PaulThePlug replied to BillyBass's topic in General Discussion
Try going the other way for some songs... Play Slow n strong with authority letting the notes ring longer... leaving a bit of room rather than trying to fill it... Like inane conversation to fill an awkward pause... leave a pit of space... There are a lot of 3 piece out there -
As mentioned... Adagio Flats... £13 is the Magic Offer Price... Got em on a P and my Acoustic... Regular Standard Tension... Medium Scale Jazz Build..... a what now??
PaulThePlug replied to Bridgehouse's topic in Build Diaries
Aw Shucks!... Ya Most Welcome... I've had s sets of P covers from these peoples, in Cream (P) and White (P for my Jazz PJ) I dropped em a line and there White J's are Vintage and 'Off-White' and not a Match to their White P, so i got a Hosco white cover for the Bridge J of the bay that fitted... They do J covers in cream... £5.25 Pair Posted... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAZZ-BASS-PICKUP-COVERS-Matched-Pairs-or-Single-in-BLACK-WHITE-or-CREAM-/200986711794?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Gives a little softer and warmer appearance, esoecially on wood colours and a nice change from the black, -
Had an early Westone Spectrum SX Gtr back in the 80's... Nice Guitar... Then got the upgraded Bendmaster Floyd Rose Type Trem from the nice bloke in the distributer stores...

Thanks, change from black, n the cream i used on the P... Original got the white covers with the thought about painting the body with them in... but then that would hide the slanty pickups a bit, so keeping plain white to make more of a feature and will look better when the white thumb rest arrives. Only got an Ibby GSR 200 with Reverse P n J... but the Jazz Body alone adds so much meat even unplugged... only tried it for a bit with headphones on the Zoom... Possibly more of a styling exercise... Need to find some time to get the 'lil Marshall MB30 practice amp going! Shame about the buzz... I'll leave it all to settle and see what can be done. Maybe a bit more relief may help, dont want to mess with the nut, so 1st fret might be were i look first.
-
So after the 'To Cold To Dip' trial i decided to put it all together as-is... just to see... I've swapped the pickup covers on the Kent Armstrong Vintage PJ set and thumb rest... so plastics in White, with Metalwork of Bridge, Neck Plate, Knobs 'n Tuners in Black. Body is in matt white primer ready for an 'Acid' psychedelic swirly paint job. Eldest's other half is into their art... (And a Jazz Sax player looking on getting a 6 string bass!) So might get them to Cosmic Paint by hand. Screw the bits together yesters, wired with a Kiogon VBT Loom, strung it up with rounds earlier... String alignment now good, Intonated OK by clip on tuner, but is a little out according to the Zoom B1on. Truss rod tweak to reduce the relief, action is about 3.5E to 2.5G... bit of buzz on the open strings, nut looks a little low, but might be down to a high 1st. Fretted it's generally OK across the fretboard. Overall, quite happy and a bit of 'Budget Fun'... First a P, Then the J... Then.?.

Motorhead Clip Above.... # "If this don't make you want a Ric, you must be deaf 'n blind!.. Motorhead..." So much energy... Now looking on AliExpress at £250 Ric copies... in white... cam they be that bad?.. Harley Benton quality?

Extra pickup on a 'Pure P' bass - your thoughts?
PaulThePlug replied to Ander87's topic in Bass Guitars
There was a P body on here with a Rear Pickup route that would fit various pups.. if neck fit is the same... -

That's real nice... With a Mapel board maybe a few stain tester pots and do a warm tobacco burst? -

Glad ya on the mend... Sounds like a great idea... and a great idea... Rear Route too... my favourite! And a nice home for those pickups, be daft not to. Nice bit of wood there, Me? Natural in Danish Oil... -
Cheers, don't mind if i do... I've got a bit of Guiness flow going on in the wood, but guess i might be looking a bit anemic to some... The Danish has darkened up a little...

Put one together?..

Filled a dustbin up with water... Shook the paints well... spotted em on the surface, but as i swirl em up the paint just went to custard skin... too cold me thinks.
