Apparant Sound, Volume, Impact, Heft... etc a bit like Torque v Power... A lot to do with the circuit topology and damping factor of the amp to control the speakers along with the speakers sensitivity.. Some need a fair bit of power to make the sound, in that way power doesnt always equate to volume. Thoroughbred Watts! Hiwatt, Marshall etc....

Can the Vol and Tone not be fitted in to a seperate box? on the floor Vol pedal with an extra tone pot added? or little box on the strap, like am EHX headphone amp? - save making holes till ya sure. Room to tape a cheap chinese P Pickup or similar under the strings? just for a try? Sounds like the EDA900 set up of Mag n Piezo.

I love the natural finish and plain and simple looks... elegant and fuss free.

John will sort you out a new jack socket and quality pots for volume and tone with values to suit the type of tone you are after, push/pull pot to single coil tap, the pickup if you want, or other rotary switching for tonal options etc... There is a post on the Ibby Owners Thread of a pre going duff on an old SR600... They ended swapping the pickups and going passive. Hope Ibanez get ya sorted... i think the pre n pots etc comes as a 'part' The SR300 Humbuckers can be run passive maybe without the power tap bit, and different wiring for the coil tap... would be an option.
