1. I made one of those for our guitarist to use for solos. All it is is a 1 meg pot with a cap across the lugs to preserve the tone at lower levels. You can use it as a cut or boost, simply a vol pot in a remote footswitch really. Its about £10 parts and 15 minutes work. If anyones interested I could post the schematic but theres really nothing to it.
2. I'm told that according to normal practice, compressors belong at the start of the pedal chain to even out signal spikes, levels, etc. Next should be env/wah type effects while the tone is still virgin, but for a Bassballs if I put it straight after the comp, then doesn't that flatten all the dynamics that make the BB work well? Are the 2 pedal types mutually exclusive, or is it a quetion of using the comp to take oout spikes rather than equalise the whole signal level? Also, what is the best practice for eq pedal in the chain? I have A/B box, looper, comp, bassballs, SYB3 synth pedal, chorus, fuzz at the moment.
3. ...or you could put a small variable resistor there which turns the tone down in increments for more control....
4.
Al, My apologies for that - it was a bit strong. No offense intended.
[Group Hug]
5. One Knob: does this mean volume only, no tone? Thats very easy to wire. The only drawback is you won't have a knob for tone any more! Custom scratchplates can be bought as blanks or you can fit something else in the hole left to tidy it up. You would expect to pay about £30 - £40 for a blank, a bit more expensive than a rectangle of plastic pickguard laminate or metal. Try Allparts and WD Music to start with. Its easy enough to cut to your requirement if you are patient, have a few bais tools and remeasure everything before cutting.
6.
Mine isn't. It's made of half-inch ply. I priced up all the bits I'd need to make a board and it came to just under 50 quid.
Must be an expensive (or very large) bit of ply. Mine's cost me a few quid for some velcro tape and some patch leads. 2 bits of mdf board going spare in the garage left over from another project and 2 feet of plastic conduit. That's about it.
7. Apologies for misleading you - I do talk crap sometimes
8. ....and a fuzz face
9. Then you are buggered
10. it says the DL4 runs off batteries. Is the mains adaptor for it AC or DC? Does it tell you on the back of the case? Most pedals will not have a transformer built in, they will rely on the transformer being in the adapter plug. If so, then you need to check if it is -ve tip or +ve. Jonnyshredfreak.com sell polarity-swapping connectors so you can get round that too.
11. Rich, theres plenty of ebay outlets selling multi-adaptor power supplies in daisy chains with different plug sizes - don't have to pay crazy diago rip-off prices. I just bought one from effectpowersupplies.com. 6 outlets 9v in either 2.1 or 2.5mm barrels and about £16.
12. perfect idea, and can be used as a small futon when guests come to stay
13. most good parts outlets will state if the pickguard is for a Squier or a Fender USA or MIM as they are known to differ. If it doesn't specify, then be careful to ask first, then at least you can have some come-back if it's wrong. Plenty of scratchplate/pickguard replacements available on a google search.
14. Here's one I started putting together this evening: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=582926
15. OK heres' what I've been putting together this evening. MDF board, 2 tiers to help foot clearance at front, with slatted shelves so all wires can be tucked underneath out of the way. Shelves will be lined with sticky back velcro tape to hold the pedals. The white strip at the back is electrical conduit strip as a bus to carry the pedal power daisy chain, plus A&B jacks in on right hand side, to accomodate the 2 basses I normally use when gigging. This gets routed to my A/B + X/Y box front left where the output goes either into the fx loop or to the tuner. Top left is mono jack out to amp.
16. just get a good quality big brand one, the cheap ones are full of filler
17. Check the wires soldered to the pots and jack socket. Carefully check the wires from the pickups, what pickups do you have? If one of the copper windings has broken then its a bit more tricky. It may be something really simple like a wire come off the jack socket. Do you have a soldering iron? If you're not confident with this stuff then you have to take it to a shop for a proper repair.
18. wow, thx for the link, not come across them before - everything in one place to provide me with a happy weekend.
19. Looks very nice but you must know we need B I G G E R pictures than that please!
20. Did you manage to get a nice piece of ply under £116? I think you may be on to something...
21. Why are some pedal boards so dear? I wa shocked at the price of the Diago ones, £116 for a well-made wooden, hinged, lined box. Seems a bit steep. I'm presuming this doesn't even get you a daisy chain power supply built in? I'm looking at putting one together myself that at least has a bit of a shelf for the rear pedals, and some nice tidy routing for the patch cables and power leads uinderneath. Boss have some neat features like the input, outputs and power socket integral to the case as well as a handy place to wedge your Boss tuner in at the back. Is velcro adhesive tape the best way to go for securing the pedals? Anyone else bother incorporating integral jack plugs & power sockets into theirs?
22. Circuits & schematics for the classic fuzzes: 1) DIYstompboxes.com 2) GEOFEX 3) General guitar Gadgets 4) Freestompboxes.org ...to name but a few, should give you more than enough of the classics to choose from.
23.
BTW, I sent those jumper sockets, should be with you tomorrow
Thta's great - many thanks!- Can I paypal you some money or you want a littel PCB to play with?
24. I've still got a backup marshall 1 x 15 available for sale if you're interested. Its 150W with a 7-band eq. Nice workhorse and yours for £100.
25. Steve, if you want some pieces of Zebrano I have some offcuts still in the garage from a bass build I put together last year. Might be tricky to match up though as the pattern of grain is so linear. If its not in a visible area then neepheid's advice.
