No, I've never tried the Akai. I got the same effect with this Fishman. I put the effected signal thru a separate small guitar amp. Gave me great control over the sound without losing the bass.

The Fishman Fission Bass Powerchord can do the job for you. To the note you're playing you can add an octave above, a 4th below, or a 5th above. Sale only on this great-looking 4-string from Spector. It's a bolt-on neck, and the hardware includes the Spector tone-pump preamp and EMG-HZ pickups. This is a big-sounding bass with loads of options to tailor your sound. It's been my backup bass, so has not been played much since I bought it in late 2008 from The Bass Merchant in Essex.
