This bass used to to mine, it's tone is to die for, biggest B string I have ever heard. I actually am not very happy to see it up here tho....
Thanks Bram for chiming in. Yes, this bass is very organic sounding and I begin to feel that the older and well-played Foderas are a quality of their own. Most of the Fodera enthusiasts are looking for Dual Coils and Pope pre but believe me - this bass smokes ! And I still own 5 other big Foderas... If it only would be 34' or 35' ....:-( Trades considered (+/- cash): Alleva Coppolo 5 60s Fender Jazz Bass Celinder J Update 4 or Classic 5 Fodera 34' or 35' (same spec and age would be great !) F bass (BN5 with very nice tops, AC5, VF4/5) Ken Lawrence Fretless Ken Smith BMT ...

Fodera Yin Yang - what do people think aesthetically?
mrbassman_de replied to molan's topic in Bass Guitars
Ok - so I'm a big Fodera fan so my opinion is going to show some bias but I keep looking at the 'classic' black / white (ebony / holly) Yin Yang basses & thinking how cool they look. I tested them out on my wife - who is usually ultra-critical of 'flashy' wood tops like flamed maple etc. and even she remarked that it was the nicest bass she'd seen. So I have a feeling this design is going to 'polarise' opinion somewhat so I thought I'd throw the question out to see what everyone else thinks. . .
Ah, nice - I see my garden wall and in front of it the YY I used to own until beginning of the year I sold this particular bass because of its sound - not because of its look. Personally I like the Yin Yang symbol, even if in the bass world it is associated so close with VW's performances. Nevertheless I prefer a more .... hm, traditional look for my basses - not as symbolic as this one. -

Selling a MINT condition Fodera Emperor Elite II/5 featuring: Buckeye Burl Full Top Alder Body 3-pc Maple Neck w 21 small frets Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard 35' scale Fodera Custom Shop Single Coils in 70s positions Pope Preamp 3-Bd Gold Hardware 4,5 kg Brandnew Fodera Diamond Stainless Steel 45130 OHSC Manufactured in 2001 Retail price for this beauty is >12 k$ !! This one is available here and now for a lot less !! MINT condition !! Only one very small ding on the back of the body (see pics on the Weblink), otherwise flawless ! Single Coils - 21 frets - 70s positions - 19,5 mm string spacing at the bridge, ... this bass is designed to transfer several good elements of an early 70s Jazz Bass into a modern Single Cut / neckthrough concept. The result is a killer slap tone combined with the elaborated fingerstyle sound culture of a single cut neckthrough - full of sustain and deepness. This bass has one of the best balanced B strings of all Foderas I ever played. The Buckeye Burl Top is breathtaking - the pictures don't justice. The action could be set as low as you want without any buzz. These pics are from the shop, where this bass has been originally sold. The others on the webalbum are from April 2010 ! I can take additional pics on demand ... . Bass is located in Duesseldorf / Germany. Will ship worldwide after all funds have been cleared. Hi all, I bought the bass from thebeeps in August (thanks again for the smooth deal) and traded it recently to the current owner. The bass is VERY clean and there is nothing wrong with it. It's a fantastic soloing bass and extremely responsive to an accentuated and dynamic playing. There is no buckle rash on the back - it's a partly worn off signature from Victor. I just decided to stick on my 5 string Imperials and therefore I traded it for a fantastic F Bass AC5, which also came recently from UK. Jason, the new partner at Fodera, stated recently at Talkbass that these YinYang model takes twice the effort to finish than any other Fodera model. They decided at Fodera to build only 6 YinYangs per year and increased the price by 35% ! That's all about the pricing I think. Good luck with the sale.

I decided to sell this outstanding Alembic Series II 5-string which I got a few months ago from another fellow BC member. It has the following specs: top and back: Ziricote (3.000 USD option !) accent: Maple laminate body core: Mahogany neck: 7-piece Maple and Purpleheart with oversized middle laminate scale: 34" (long) fingerboard: Ebony fingerboard dimensions: 1-13/16 x 2-11/16 (custom) inlays: Black Tahitian Mother of Pearl (300 USD option) body shape: 3/4 Heart Omega (500 USD option) pickups and electronics: Series II custom note: pickup selector on lower horn hardware: 24K gold plated birthday: February 25, 1997 Retail price would be 24.100 USD according to the Alembic Custom Quote calculator. Street price should be 2/3 of that, so it should cost about 16.000 USD new at a good shop, if a rare beast like this comes around at all... EU import VAT plus shipping to be added. The bass is in great condition - one small ding on the upper side of the body, some small blemishes at the headstock, the region where the thumb sits on the body - above the B string - has lost its gloss to some degree, but this should be fixed by applying some polish on it. Otherwise this bass is in immaculate condition. The frets as well as the gold hardware show minimal wear. On the battery plate there is the name of the first owner engraved. The 19' DS5R cable driver unit and 2 special Alembic cables are included - the OHSC too. The Series II electronics are the most exciting onboard tone shaping units available - the tone is unique - no doubt. The bass is quite heavy - about 5.5 kg -, which contributes to it's deep low end combined with a strong clarity. String spacing at the bridge is about 16.5 mm. The bass has NO LEDs ! I decided to sell this beauty as I found to be more a Smith / Fodera guy and I'm looking for a good 4 string - may be an old pre-CBS Fender - or a 5 string Fodera fretless. So this beauty has to go again. There is no issue with this bass. I prefer a straight sale, but if you have any high-end 4- or 5-string Smith, Fodera or vintage Fender which you like to throw in plus some cash - please let me know. High-End Fretless basses welcome ! Bass could be checked and picked up at Duesseldorf, Germany. Not far from Airport Weeze - which is destination of Ryan Air ... Look at MY WEBSITE for more pics: SOLD !!
The Burbank era is "considered" pré Gibson because this basses where still build by MikeTobias and his team... If this disturbes you, let us call it "Pré-Nashville" than, however, it is still handbuild by Mike Tobias and his team and didn't roll out of a Gibson factory.... and that is what it is all about....
+1 I am the previous owner of this beautiful bass and hope it will find a good home for a longer stay. Extra bump for a serious and kind seller.
this is a beauty, and if I had the money I'd be seriously considering making you an offer for it. however, I would like to point out that strictly speaking this is not a pre-Gibson buy-out Tobias. Although it is, as you say in the original post, a pre-Nashville bass. ie a bass that was built by Mike Tobias and his original crew in Burbank, after the buyout from Gibson, but before Gibson moved production to Nashville. The full history is here, for anyone interested
Thanks for the clarification. The web is full of discussions whether Tobias owners with serno between 1100 and 2044 should label their basses as pre-Gibson or not. Is it more important wich company earns the money with the bass or which luthiers stand behind the production ? Most of the early Tobias owners or those who like this classic brand seem to feel that the real deal is that Michael T. himself prepared the bass. Therefore most of them label their basses as "pre-Gibson" to give this attribute an accent. I propose the use of the label "pre-Nashville - considered as pre-Gibson". But to be honest - this would be more precise, but won't make anything more clear... Just my 0.02 c.
I'm just trying to work out what the cryptic - 2.000,- GBP + s/h obo means Does he want 2 grand for it????
Yes It means 2.000,- GBP plus shipping/handling, or best offer ... String spacing is somewhat around 17mm at the bridge. Great for fast fingerstyle - especially octaves or Rocco lines, worse for double thump or tapping stuff and such unnecessary things... lol Why do so much players prefer the wide spacings for fivers ? I also offer a great sadowsky, which is a world-class bass, but with a 20mm spacing - nothing for me ! I love Jazz Basses with that spacing - but 5ers ??
Is this brand new at £2500??
Could you show me please where you can get a brandnew NYC for that price ? I would like to get around 2.700 EUR, which is average price in germany for a good used one. I know that this instrument would cost >4100 USD plus shipping plus import VAT. Final Prices at Station Music in Germany: Far above 4 kEUR. I've seen used Metros offered here for slightly less than 2 k. By the way: The condition is MINT, except of the original case. So what's the issue with my price ? Thanks for your interest.
