  1. The Uptown Top Ranking (totally love that song BTW) reminds me of the kebab shop I saw in the Spanish town of Altea. Well it amused me enough to take a pic anyway!
  2. Take Mark E Smith of the Fall for example... a few songs are extended rants, but more often puts a lot into a single pithy phrase. I like both though!
  3. Not as good as I was hoping, a few funny bits scattered in there. Should have been 30 mins max IMO. The Brian Pern program from the same guy was a lot better.
  4. Yes, I was surprised when I first heard that.... Never had him down as a major fan of Syd era Floyd!
  5. I'm prepared to pretend to listen for £400 a session .
  6. Gary and Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet have made a mockumentory. BB2 at 10pm tonight think. Made by the same guy who made the Brian Pern mocku. Might be worth a watch - I'm planning to anyway! We might even get a bass gag from or at Martin.
  7. I've re-read the OP, and yes I maybe missed the point a bit. sounds like OP is kind of objective-oriented in there playing at home e.g .will play to learn to new song or whatever, but not for intrinsic reasons. So perhaps new objectives, not a new bass. So as others have said, new genre, different instrument (e.g DB, guitar), or maybe writing basslines for online collaborations.
  8. When you get a new instrument there is normally a Breville Sandwich Toaster effect, but if it’s a good fit for you then there can be an increase in use long term.
  9. Are you thinking about the Rogue Male cover?
  10. Thanks for reminding me that I have not practised any band songs since lockdown! I am relying on a last minute splurge before the rehearsal.
  11. I’m inclined to agree with that.
  12. Siouxsie and the Banshees - Hong Kong Garden Lyric: "Hong Kong Garden Take-away - lay your Yen on the counter please" A) UK take-aways accept payment in sterling, regardless of the nationality of the cuisine B) Yen is/was not the currency of Hong Kong / China
  13. Might be some truth in it........ when I was a teenager, my default answer to anyone asking how I was or what I thought about something was a grudging, semi-grunted "all right"!
  14. I love this, and the 3 or 4 other songs by them which got a fair bit of play on 6 Music. Great racket from a 3 piece.
  15. If I were ever to upgrade my ukulele to one which cost a ridiculous amount of money (to be honest that probably won't happen), I may well have chosen a Mya-Moe..... ...... except for the headstock theme which seems common to them all:
  16. In which case..........
  17. My rate of gear acquisition is so slow that I don't need to stop. Like those elevators which don't stop, if you will.
  18. Better than a lot of bass solos I've heard, and they have good stage presence and movements... so overall not too bad.
  19. International Reggae Day......... was yesterday (July1st). Sounds like 6 music missed it too as they are mentioning it today in a retrospective way. There's always next year
  20. I guess the most notable would have been Police and Thieves by the Clash. Lee Perry apparently gave his verdict: "They ruined it"
  21. Yes - definite gateway track!
  22. Dillinger - Cocaine in my Brain One of my all time raggae faves.
  23. Cool! I heard the story (on John Peel, many years ago) that there was an obscure prog band that sang in their own language and had a tour bank-rolled (or something) by Steve Davis.... so that would be Magma then!
  24. Actually, maybe this is understandable if we take into account what psychologists 'the endowment effect' where we place higher value on things we already posess, and will need non-rationally high incentive to relinquish them. Perhaps it is more easily explained via this diagram :
  25. True, but pedant alert... I think it was Mick singing that song.... and he was actually writing about how he felt about the Clash. They eventaully made the choice for him by firing him
