Change the tune......liderally!!!
Nail Soup replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I could go for Jerusalem though. But how would it sound being sung by a bunch of people with no discernable vocal talent, like at a football match? Here's the version by The Fall and Mark E Smith (also features the melody line played on bass): -

Not so sure that the queen's death is a reason to change it.... as far as I know then anthem lives on through the monarchs, with adjustments for gender. I'd say that there are 4 other reasons to change it for England stuff: It's not specifically the English Anthem, it's UK anthem and commonwealth too and so on. The tune is a bit of a dirge. the lyrics are a bit dodgy. Too much centered around the institutions of royalty and church. -
I didn't watch any of the vids as it's not relevant as to whether this is a good ad or not. Even the worst band in the world has the right to be selective about who they play with. I think it's OK for them to specify some image and commitment requirements, and to be honest about expected songwriting contribution. No problem from me on that side. On the downside it came across like they take themselves a bit too seriously .

6 music in this and many other cases.

Latest post punk thing to hit my Radar - Horsegirl. (All-female 3 piece from Chicago I think)

Looks (and sounds) like Chic's Tony Thompson on drums too.
-
They did a good job of re-creating the drum sound of the record too.

Police and Thieves at DV247 Romford-lefty alert!

Maybe someone told the thief to keep taking guitars until they had nothing left. I'll get me coat...... -
Got back late last night from Ely folk festival. It's a 3 day fest, but my mum and dad got a day ticket for Saturday, so they hung with us most of the day, which was an added bonus. Loads of great acts, from a wide definition of folk... here's a couple of highlights (from youtube, not this actual festival) Holy Moly & The Crackers - absolutly fantastic, loads of people dancing down the front (including me of course!) Sam Kelly and the Lost Boys..... great band and did an amazing covers of Sultans of Swing and The Chain :

What are you listening to right now?
Nail Soup replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
No need to imagine what it would sound like if covered by a member of The Stranglers and a Ex-Beefheart drummer: -
Also some singers are not good with a tambourine - and yes it cuts through everything. They look easy to play, but there is an actual knack to shaking it in a good rhythm.

I watched Snarky Puppy next. I've only heard of them via Basschat, and based on what I'd read here I expected to dislike them. But you know what they weren't so bad. Not going to be joining the fanclub, but it was an OK listen. Good to see violin in the lineup. And kudos to them for doing a set of only new material, even though they have a load of albums in the back catalogue.

Sounds like it's long enough for them to finish the whole drinks cupboard 🙂.

Sky Arts and other music related programmes

Excludes Bill Wyman, includes Ronnie Wood. Even though Wyman has more Stones years if you exclude the years when they effectively became a legacy act. -
What would be your bass gig of choice from all of history?

And being able to spend time with the, ahem, charming Ginger Baker🙁. -
Caught up on First Aid Kit. Brilliant- one of the highlights for me.

Ely folk festival next weekend…. 2 nights camping 3 evenings and 2 afternoons of music. And there’s workshops and stuff in the mornings. Il be taking an instrument-ukulele most likely. The most well known acts are Sam Kelly and the Lost Boys, Sharon Shannon, Linfisfarne, Daoiri Farrell…… but often the smaller acts are more interesting.

Great selection this month, good to hear some folky stuff in there! And although less entries, thanks to those who still turned out to vote 👍. -
Absolutely. It's become a normal thing now, but I remember how shocked I was when someone told me that people just left their tents behind at festivals, like a single-use product.
