I just got an advert on YouTube for a new wonder cure for tinnitus. Apparently big pharma have been suppressing this simple cure for years to protect their profits. There is a link to another video which I must watch before it is taken down by big pharma's powerful AI censorship technology: Study shows: The real reason why you’ve been suffering from tinnitus has absolutely nothing to do with loud noises, your genetics or ageing. Taking that into account, an award winning hearing specialist discovered this brand new approach, giving ordinary people back silence and perfect hearing in record time. It works so incredibly well because for the first time ever, it fights the real root cause of tinnitus and hearing loss, giving incredible results never seen before. This has nothing to do with traditional methods such as meds, surgery or sound therapy and it works regardless of your age or medical condition. Thousands of people are already using this 15 second ritual, that is giving them exceptional results. Warning: this content is of a sensitive nature and it could be removed at any time, so click the link below and do not miss this potentially life changing opportunity. Looks like our worries are over.

Inspired by the "how can I drop my bass to F# ?" thread. How much difference does dropping the tuning actually make? Just a subtle difference or a big game changer? I mean why can't people just play in normal tuning - a lot of the heaviness must come from the amp settings, notes played, drumming style, vocals and so on. Is it about being able to use thicker strings without having to increase the tension or something? Most music I listen to is probably not in the drop-tuning world.. but I do listen to a bit of Napalm Death and The Melvins.

Might even have been prog 😉

Absolutely. That's a good example of DIY. I'll extend the slight derailment with this:

I'd like to deny any involvement 😉!

I just checked out a couple of their songs on Soundcloud. Pretty good - I'll keep my eye out for them at any local venues. Good luck to them. Is that a different drummer in your pic?

What are you listening to right now?

Just finished the 6-CD box set by the Fall of all their sessions for John Peel. 24 sessions in total from the bands emergence in 1978 to Peels death in 2004. Here's one song that was never had a studio release. Amazing that they could afford to sit on such a good song (non-Fall fans may disagree of course!). Mess of My: -
Liverpool Noob... live venues, where not to eat, etc?

When in Liverpool , that is dinner 😉. -
The Lovely Eggs. I missed their 're-scheduled due to covid' show due to a diary clash, so ticket wasted. I was 50/50 about going see them on the next tour........ but...... I discovered Gwenifer Raymond a couple of weeks ago (completely different genre to Lovely Eggs) and decided to catch her live at next opportunity. Looked up her tour dates and it turns out she is supporting the Lovely Eggs on their tour! Result..... kill two birds with one stone! So well done to the Lovely Eggs for thinking 'outside the box' on support acts. So here is the support act:

Try "Seether" -
To be honest, I thought StewBlack had made you up.

Yeah, I hate that too Jazza.

Careful what you say.... someone will be along to tell you that you should be able to learn any song in one listen through.....

I went to a gig with my mate... he was playing drums in one of the bands. I was a bit 'synaptically enhanced' that evening and was convinced that he counted in one of the songs (their set was all 4/4) with 5 clicks of the sticks. I questioned him about it later... he denied it and kind of laughed it off. Afterwards I came to the realisation that he couldn't have done it anyway as the rest of the band would have come in after four anyway 😕!

Has anyone bought a bass on a whim just cos of its looks?
Nail Soup replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
In that case, I'll revise my answer: No I've never bought a bass on a whim because of it's looks. I've never bought a bass on a whim. I've never bought anything on a whim . -
I'd guess not........... I would say those other groups (and Nirvana too) are seen as ground-breaking in some way, where as Foo-Fighters are more 'very good/popular at what they do"
-
Just been reminded of this by the 'gets on my goat thread'......... It took me a looooong time to work out that 'pups' was short for pick-ups.

I'm all for 'em. Anything that gets my indelicate fingers to the right place on the fretboard without burdening my cloth ears is OK with me. Hell, they could even be numbered . What does get my renal output to the point of rapid vaporisation is instructional Youtube vids where there are no fret dots visible .

Post a YouTube link for a recommended track and I will have a listen 👍 -
Yes, but nothing massively radical........ baseball boots, black canvas trousers, bright pink/cerise shirt, silver tie, leopard-print 'suit' jacket. But it's enough to get a few comments.

I have a very slow turnover of gear, but if I do then looks are really important. Most basses are doing to sound and play OK. Only some are going to look right. When Basschatters are talking about tuners and wood and all that stuff it normally doesn't grab my interest. When Basschatters talk about how beautiful a bass is it does get my attention. However, about 75% of the time I think "god, that's ugly" and 25% "drool". That's how subjective looks are. -
I can't sleep for a few hours after a gig..... stopping at a kebab shop and getting chips (maybe in a pitta 🙂) is part of my wind-down process. I'm normally still wearing my stage gear....... sometimes attracts comments (and even a selfie request) from the clientele.

Those are the banjos with four strings right? I guess that 5th string would be real pain in music where there are lots of chords and different keys. Feel free t o post an example of the banjo in action in the kind of trad/dixie that you do 👍
