  1. Thanks for the tips! I'll be working my way through it 😟
  2. We have Norton as the family multi pc solution…. Is it really that bad?
  3. Whoops forgot to mention that crucial info - it’s 8gb
  4. Good luck! Its quite a job reinstalling all the apps etc.
  5. Had a similar message from Japanese band Shonen Knife. The date had moved by one day..... oh no, it was a whole year (2023) on the same day but one. Still, something to look forward too I suppose.
  6. I was wondering the same myself 😉 To be honest I thought some miserable so-and-so would have come out and admitted it by now !
  7. Music plays a different role for different people. For me its the most important thing there is (apart from family and all that stuff). I remember listening to a former England Women's Football manager on Desert Island Discs., thinking that they chose a terrible selection of records.... but in fact she wasn't choosing on the quality of the music, or even the quality of the lyrics.... but the underlying message of the song. Just that was the role music played for her. Same for me the other way round guess.... I'll watch a football match and just enjoy the general flow of the game, and don't really care about the details of which centre-back has the best footballing brain.
  8. Yes, for me the wry humour snuck in is better than going for the belly laugh. Like The Smiths.... supposedly miserable, but some dry humour in there.
  9. I have a new PC, purchased primarily to support my DAW. Lenovo ThinkCentre. I noticed some strange noises during recording/playback and eventually I think that it is due to the PC's high memory usgae Here it is without the DAW, not doing anything other than few web pages: Here it is wit hthe DAW playing a simple song of 6 or 7 tracks and not loads of effects: I've only had the PC less than 6 months and not used it heavily. Is this normal? Norton is giving me a warning about Memory usage and suggesting that I subscribe to Norton™ Utilities Ultimate ( Help make your Windows™ PC run like new again) for about £30 per year? Any suggestions?
  10. Probably came from the same person who told us we could get by smoking banana skins 😃
  11. Many years ago I used to, in the absence of a tuner, tune to a known reference record. That record was Blitzkreig Bop by the Ramones. It’s in the key of A…. an open string. There’s not much going on except the chord and root note bass, so nothing to confuse my poor musical brain. But only as accurate as my turntable speed. then tune the other strings from the A string. Given my sense of pitch if probably sounded awful.
  12. For the record, although the thread title is a Frank Zappa reference, Zappa's idea of humour is something I can do without in music or elsewhere.
  13. So what do you reckon? What do you think of music with a humorous element? Maybe give some examples of your favourite or hated examples.
  14. The Bug Club have been on my 'must see' list ever since I heard this song - The Fixer: Just noticed that they have added a gig near me - sorted!
  15. I don't have any performance anxiety for playing gigs... as singer, guitarist or bassist. Even solo performances. People always say that it is the opposite to how I am in 'real life'. In real life I am an introvert, but on stage I come across as extrovert. But I feel that on stage I have licence to perform. Maybe not so in real life.
  16. Agree with previous comments…. they could easily have put together a competent band from tha applications they must have had. But the artificial selection they did make was a reasonable simulation of a Join My Band scenario.
  17. Looking forward to the next episode tonight folks! It's gonna focus on the rehearsal room..........
  18. Question to OP …. would these effects make more sense if you can set the timing to the beat/tempo of the song ( as is possible in a DAW or if your pedal has tap tempo feature)?
  19. There may be some expectation of haggling….
  20. Probably stretching Grunge too far, but how about Cannonball by The Breeders?
  21. I'll go along with what some others have said..... some music is lyric-centric and some isn't. I do like a lot of music where a lot of the enjoyment comes from the lyrics. For example The Fall.... Mark E Smith is a great wordsmith. Take the Sex Pistols for example.... it was the lyrics which raised them up a level, even though they were already good musically. However I am often guilty of lyric-blindness..... for example at a folk show (where you are supposed to listen to words more than anywhere else) I'll often find myself focusing on the musical layers rather than the lyrical narrative.
  22. I'm getting on OK with the first Clawhammer piece........ but am having one problem. My downstroke fingernail is wearing thin and not making a very well defined strike on the string. The other time I use that nail for music is Ukulele (nylon strings so maybe that's not wearing it down much) and whe nI strum the acoustic guitar without a pick. One option is to do only finger picking and placrum stumming on guitar. Anyone recommend any other options? I'm currently trying out a banjo finger pick put on upside down (to cover the nail rather than the pad of the finger), but it is a bit awkward and is getting caught in the strings. Maybe a matter of more practice though. I'm also thinking of getting a acrylic nail stuck on.... any thoughts?
  23. Not sure that's true..... I think soul/groove gets as much love here as other genres.
  24. I'd say that in practice it works both ways round. The company is 'endorsing' the artist by accepting their endorsement of the product. I mean: I favour Jim Dunlop picks..... but I doubt they would put my name to their product.
  25. Judging by the two or three tracks I’ve heard on this thread I reckon they would be fantastic live.
